Well done Kellie-Jay 🌟

Yes none of the silent protesters who were protesting the women's rights protest were arrested. I wonder why that is?

One rule for one...

BlackeyedSusan · 20/09/2020 17:32

So does this mean they have to put the jkr poster back up as it's not political anymore?

FlyingOink · 20/09/2020 17:33

She's bloody good at what she does. Definitely skilled at getting the most bang for her/our buck.

This needs to end up in court with West Yorkshire Police paying a settlement fee to Standing for Women.

I can't wait.

@BewaretheIckabog

Just posted on the wrong thread but this is an eye-opening, top of the mountain moment for me.

Policing in the 2020 pandemic:

BLM ✔️
Extinction Rebellion ✔️
Covid deniers ✔️
Trans march ✔️
Women’s rights - arrested for simply turning up.

A truly dystopian world.

This.
SoManyActivities · 20/09/2020 17:34

I think it's so interesting that the 'I love JKR' poster was taken down specifically for being 'too political'. But the group who actually arranged for that poster to be put up cannot meet because their aims 'are not political'.

I wonder how this will play out?

ItsLateHumpty · 20/09/2020 17:40

SapphosRock
What an idiot. Can't really see what she's trying to achieve but it doesn't appear she's achieved it.

She’s actually fighting for you, and I’d say at the moment she’s winning because you’re still allowed to have an opinion.

Obviously I’m being general because there are a thousand women before her who have been arrested and force fed and institutionalised and brutalised so we could have the freedom to dismiss.

@SorryImKnew I’d say I’m sorry you’re so triggered but I’d be lying. Get a grip and better Google skills - atm you’re just reinforcing the ageist trope that we can’t work the intraweb 😳🙄

DeRigueurMortis · 20/09/2020 17:41

@TinselAngel

The arrests were because for a gathering of more than six people to be legal currently, it has to be a political protest organised by a political group. The police had decided it didn't meet the definition of a political group so the protest was told to disperse.

Those women who refused to disperse were arrested.

Some women went round the corner and started proceedings there instead. After about 10 minutes the police turned up again and the process was repeated.

Yet the counter protesters were not told to disperse because they are a political group presumably??

That makes no sense - why would a political group be counter protesting one that was not political....

The subject matter at hand was the same for the opposing protests as such it's impossible to argue the case that one fits Covid protocol but the other doesn't.

SoManyActivities · 20/09/2020 17:41

@JKRismyPatronus

'Well Behaved Women Seldom Make History' is meant to be a slogan on the wall of a bar in neon lights that you pose in front of, with an oh so rebellious drink in hand, and then post on Instagram to prove your feminist credentials.

Women aren't actually meant to be badly behaved or cause a scene. They are meant to be kind and unproblematic. That is definitely how women got all the rights they enjoy today.

Absolutely. Either it is, or it isn't. Which in itself is ironic, as that's a bit finite for the liking of some.

Gilead, indeed. I find this very upsetting.

I think there was only one person with a (huge) flag, and they were told to put their flag away.

NiceGerbil · 20/09/2020 17:45

Told to put their flag away Grin

Don't know why but that made me laugh!

Local press coverage.

I'd like to know why it's "controversial" to fight to uphold women's rights and access to single sex spaces yet presumably not "controversial" to allow the bepenised overide those rights and overrun those spaces.....

PronounssheRa · 20/09/2020 17:49

He was the police officer in charge

Thanks Tinsel. Uniformed and non uniformed officers, that's an interesting response to a small group of women.

Porridgeoat · 20/09/2020 17:56

Those with gender dysphoria and gender reassignment are a protected characteristic and already have protection under the equality act. Just like females do under the protected characteristic of sex. These are things I care about and respect.

Im not interested in the needs of males professing they identify as women because they feel like a woman. I would LOVE to know what male bodied people think being a woman feels like.

I am concerned about the pressure teenagers are under due to not conforming to gender stereotypes, being autistic, post trauma of some sort or struggling with puberty.

The Tavistock clinic staff turn over is Concerning

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/09/2020 17:57

The only place I've ever seen it discussed with vigour and glee and venom is on the Feminism Chat part of MN. Nobody in real life has ever mentioned it.

There have been plenty of threads on AIBU and Chat.

Out of interest, I do think they did not break the law in terms of the gathering as I've googled a little just now. While I don't agree with her views, I do not agree that the gathering broke the law.

This is about the best document that I've found:

www.local.gov.uk/covid-19-outdoor-events-guidance

From another website protests are allowed when they comply with Covid-19 Secure guidance. Yet, the link I've posted states that "Although the COVID-19 Secure guidance itself is not legally enforceable......... ....... "During an event as enforcing authorities under the HSWA councils have powers to act if there are concerns about the extent to which an event is compliant with the guidance on being COVID-19 secure. The approach to doing so will mirror how businesses manage other health and safety risks in the workplace usually starting with advice and guidance to support compliance, but could also mean a fine, prohibition notice or prosecution."

So it's clear as mud really. Surprised police got involved really.

SorryImKnew · 20/09/2020 18:02

14 people whatever their views, is hardly the stuff of legend requiring even 1 police officer, let alone about as many police as protesters!

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 20/09/2020 18:02

ONE person that’s LESS than 14 Shock
They didn’t have a placard ShockShockShock

There was more than 14 people.
SorryImKnew · 20/09/2020 18:03

It was an extraordinary waste of police time and I'm not blaming Posie or Katie or whatever her name is. I think the police should have not got involved. I've seen more people at the opening of a bottle of champagne.

OvaHere · 20/09/2020 18:04

I'm not. Their involvement was politically motivated. WYP have form for this against women. They knew the gathering was fine.
