They are the gift that keeps on giving 😆 they will never be near national government again but they tend to go better in local elections so if you get/have a LD council

@ListeningQuietly

I do not get the obsession re midgendering and dead naming.

The Transwoman I know is very open about their original name, its part of her identity.
I'd never not call that person "her" - because she had surgery decades ago and most people would not guess quickly
but the fact that she used to be he is just a fact.

I have wondered about that, too, because misgendering and dead naming are grounds for banning on Twitter, but I doubt anyone gets banned for life for calling women c**ts and so on. Different rules for different people?

@merrymouse

From the Spectator article, the Lib Dems copied the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of anti-Semitism.

That is wrong for reasons that go far beyond disagreement over changes to the the GRA. I think Ed Davey should issue an apology first thing on Monday morning. The definition of anti-semitism is not a cut and paste that can be applied to any group.

"Mindful of the long-standing trope about Jewish control of the media, the IHRA gives the following as an example of anti-Semitism:

‘Making mendacious, dehumanising, demonising, or stereotypical allegations about Jews as such or the power of Jews as collective — such as, especially but not exclusively, the myth about a world Jewish conspiracy or of Jews controlling the media, economy, government or other societal institutions.’

The Lib Dems give as an example of transphobia:

‘Making mendacious, dehumanising, demonising, or stereotypical allegations about trans people or their cisgender allies. This includes spreading the idea of a “trans conspiracy” which asserts undue influence over media or government or claiming that cisgender allies support trans rights initiatives out of fear or bribery rather than a genuine belief that trans rights are human rights.’"

Wow, that's difficult to believe.

It's as if we're all peasants being forced to rush down the river constructing one lovely Potemkin Village after another so the queen can admire the false prosperity of her reign. Forced to be complicit in lies that undermine our own well-being.

I had a long rant at DH about what does it take to get men caring about this.

He gave hopeless reasons while looking scared then went to bed...

I had never heard the phrase Potemkin Village before - how apt. (I love that this forum is so educational.)

Back to the definition of transphobia - I think taking the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism and doing a search-and-replace with transphobia is one of the most vile, nauseating things I have heard in a long time. The idea of equating the Jews, who have throughout history been subject to expulsions, pogroms, blood libels and ghettoisation, culminating in the planned genocide of 6 million by the Nazis, with the minor discomfort caused by people "misgendering" is absolutely abhorrent. They are beyond the pale.

NiceGerbil · 22/09/2020 11:39

Agree re the cut and paste of the IHRA definition.

That is really shocking. What the hell do they think they're playing at?

MoltenLasagne · 22/09/2020 16:27

So my impression from reading that is that Lib Dems think that transphobe means a non believer equivalent to infidel or heathen. They ought to be careful, they've captured at least 80% of the population in that definition.
