136 businesses come together to support corporateWall sorry stonewall on trans ‘rights’

Like everyone on fwr I fully agree trans rights are human rights but what they are not is women’s rights. They are reserved for biological women

Also they must be rattled if they’ve got the city bods on their board to do a ring/email round to do a show of support

Looked at that list through my fingers lest my large, woke multinational tech employer was there. Thankfully it is not.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/09/2020 14:44

Wow, how amazing that they managed to get Mermaids, Cool 2B Trans, Gendered Intelligence, Trans UK radio and several other trans charities to sign up! 🙄

Imnobody4 · 14/09/2020 14:49

My local authority has signed this. Just a query does anyone know what questions are asked in the Stone wall workplace equality index?
www.stonewall.org.uk/workplace-equality-index-faqs#Top%20100%20list%20set
Shouldn't this audit by a lobby group of a local authority be open and transparent? Eg one of the sections Section 4 – Allies and role models: how you empower allies and role models to create change and their subsequent actions. Shouldn't the response to this be in the public domain?

GrimDamnFanjo · 14/09/2020 14:54

To be honest I just see the last gasp of a pressure group in search of a campaign...
Of course trans people should not suffer from discrimination - but I just seems that they are doubling down now.

Fantasisa · 14/09/2020 14:57

We should FOI the local authorities on there to ask the decision making process and how it was determined it should be supported.

I'm disappointed to see so many universities on there too.

PerditaNitt · 14/09/2020 15:03

Disappointed to see so many law firms on there (I have friends who are partners and senior associates in these firms and they have always acknowledged how female friendly their firms are or are becoming).

It all depends on the question the firms have been asked; of course it is correct that trans rights are human rights and nobody should face discrimination from employers (and the rights that trans people have under current law should be respected). However, have these firms actually been asked about the GRA, M2F in sport, single sex spaces, and everything else on Stonewall’s agenda?

Also quite disappointed that the FT is on there!

I've never heard of Cool 2b Trans before. It's a terrible name that promotes the idea that it's something fashionable.
Thingybob · 14/09/2020 15:03

I agree with a previous poster that it's more interesting to see who is missing from that list and it's heartening to see no police forces.

BovaryX · 14/09/2020 15:15

Its coverage is so partisan that the FT makes The Guardian look like Tucker Carlson. As many PP have said, the linguistic framing disguises the myriad ways in which the extreme demands of trans activists is an existential threat to women's rights. The slogan 'trans rights are human rights' is a deliberate attempt to obscure that.

ArabellaScott · 14/09/2020 15:28

Do all these people pay to have their logo displayed on this page? How does it work?

I am not surprised to see law firms on there. Partnerships are still extremely male dominated and men seem to feel a lot of empathy with trans women, plus graduate recruitment is very important to the business.midel so they will want all the stonewall awards and to have a good story to tell at recruitment fairs.

I left law after becoming a mother and have loads of female friends (mothers and not) who are still in. I don't think firms are female friendly at all.

My former employer is on there. Hmm
PerditaNitt · 14/09/2020 15:39

Good point about firms wanting to appear attractive to new graduate recruits.

I’m regularly disappointed about the FT’s stance on this topic....

Good question. If multinationals are doing this, it's because they believe it to be beneficial PR
SerenityNowwwww · 14/09/2020 16:09

It’s a handy print out for when people spout that GC women are given £££££££ by US religious nuts.

Stillamum3 · 14/09/2020 16:20

My heath authority is on there!

MoltenLasagne · 14/09/2020 16:28

I'm more interested on who isn't on there. My company was one of the many logos in the full page ad last year and I know there ended up being quite a lot of backlash against signing ourselves up to something political.

IIRC the company were very annoyed because they thought they were signing up to show support for one thing and it turned out to be another. They are conspicuously missing this time (thank God) so I wonder if they are being a lot more cautious with Stonewall now.

that's very interesting and seems like good news!
Fantasisa · 14/09/2020 16:57

And actually 136 businesses isn't very many out of the UK.

EarthSight · 14/09/2020 17:01

@Kit19

Maybe we should write and ask them why they support Male bodied people playing women at rugby
Or why they've been pushing 'NO DEBATE' and 'Acceptance without exception'..........not exactly great for women's shelters, is it?
weebarra · 14/09/2020 17:04

DH's former employer is on there. A more misogynistic organisation you'd be hard pushed to find.

EarthSight · 14/09/2020 17:11

@Fantasisa

Yeah but look who's on there - Google Admiral (a major call centre employer) Disney Sky (another major call centre employer) Welsh Assembly Government NHS Wales Cwm Taf Health Board Greater Manchester Combined Authority Nottingham City Council Nottinghamshire Council Shelter Manchester University University of Salford University of Kent University of Sussex University of Brighton

Lets give a big slow clap to these organisations who have shown they are willing to trample all over women's rights.

Fantasisa · 14/09/2020 17:14

Oh I agree, @EarthSight.

I'm just trying to console myself that the list is shorter than it could be and isn't actually a sign of success for Stonewall.
