136 businesses come together to support corporateWall sorry stonewall on trans ‘rights’

Like everyone on fwr I fully agree trans rights are human rights but what they are not is women’s rights. They are reserved for biological women

Also they must be rattled if they’ve got the city bods on their board to do a ring/email round to do a show of support

The message those companies have in fact given is "we support the removal of sex based rights from females for the better happiness of males, and we're unmoved by the severe impact this will have on many females, their access to public life and services, and their quality of life".

gardenbird48 · 14/09/2020 13:44

I note that they don’t specify which trans rights are under threat. I wonder if any of these orgs have even bothered to ask?

PhoebeSnow · 14/09/2020 13:46

Yes that is a handy list of who to avoid! Lush and The Body Shop are in my area, but other companies not so much.

OvaHere · 14/09/2020 13:47

Do these companies actually understand what they are supporting?

For example would they put a tagline on their websites and marketing material that says

"We are proud to support Stonewall in making rugby a more dangerous sport for female players. If you want to support this too click here now"

Would they fuck but that is exactly what they are endorsing.

Stripesgalore · 14/09/2020 13:50

It’s a strange thing when a campaigning organisation is supported by the Armed Forces and human rights crushing multinational companies like Unilever but claims to be progressive.

In the old days a company would claim the public supported you against the government and big companies, now it’s proud to be backed by the government and big business against what the people want.

Kit19 · 14/09/2020 13:50

Maybe we should write and ask them why they support Male bodied people playing women at rugby

OP posts:
Kit19 · 14/09/2020 13:52

Or why they back an organisation that supports the removal of women only spaces like refuges

Unilever employees raped and denied six months wages as a consequence:

PhoebeSnow · 14/09/2020 13:55

I wonder if those companies would be so quick to sign up in support of women’s rights ? Probably not , no woke points to be had with women.

StandWithYou · 14/09/2020 13:57

There are a lot of law firms on there. Had a look at a couple of twitter accounts and a couple have posted their support. Not going their way so far - this could be quite illuminating as I think views on a Twitter are changing. It may not be the result these firms are looking for. It will be interesting to watch.

That's a really interesting point. Because this is about language. The architects of the slogans in the era of woke have carefully crafted simple tautologies which sound superficially uncontroversial and irrefutable. They are designed to make questions or criticism impossible. But the agenda which underpins these slogans is exactly what you cite. Contact sports with men beating women down. The narrative needs to be challenged by tipping it on its head as you suggest.

Kit19 · 14/09/2020 14:03

It’s an interesting list - there are some really huge companies & public bodies but there’s a lot of - putting it charitably - small companies (if they’re even companies) padding it out, and only a handful of local authorities & universities.

I can't find the actual statement, can someone link to it?

HavelockVetinari · 14/09/2020 14:07

All I can see on the website is "we value trans people as our employees, customers and colleagues" which is fine, no? I'd happily sign that.

KatVonlabonk · 14/09/2020 14:07

Why are charities, public services, and universities identifying as companies? ?????

And quite frankly the bunch of virtue signalling misogynists can f off, we'll be sorting this out in court

ManservantHecubus · 14/09/2020 14:11

Sorry to sound like an idiot, but would somebody more technically minded than me please tell me how I can boycott Google? Is it possible? I use maps/Google play store and Gmail but am I giving them money doing this? They're the only ones on list I use. Thanks x

Good point. Two years ago in 2018 Stonewall took out a full page Metro ad with all these companies endorsing their message. I've only taken a quick glance but some from back then appear to be absent now.

Kit19 · 14/09/2020 14:14

Of course havelock that’s the point! Not you, not me, not anyone on this board or anywhere thinks trans rights are not human rights but stonewall are being deliberately disingenuous because no one is threatening trans rights at all

What are threatened are woman’s rights under the guise of trans rights because stonewall are deliberately misrepresenting the law

Incidentally given what the government are saying about abolishing the HRA if I were stonewall I’d be more worried about that

It's noticeable that the Welsh government is the only major civil service dept on there. Interesting. Normally I would have expected to see DfE and the usual suspects on there.

HavelockVetinari · 14/09/2020 14:15

I don't get the issue with the message that @OvaHere posted either - trans people should surely have equal rights with everyone else to live their lives unmolested, not be discriminated against, and have free speech etc.?

What most of us on FWR don't support is trans rights overriding women's rights, but in that case it's not equal rights, as it diminishes women's rights.

I think the statements I've read are really inoffensive.

There isn't an issue with the message on the surface of it. Until you realise that 'being treated with dignity' means different things to people.

In Stonewall's case it means never saying no to a male rugby player who wants to join a women's team. Even if they only announced their identity a week before and only practice a female identity on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Kit19 · 14/09/2020 14:24

It’s all part of sustaining stonewall’s wider lobbying

‘Look at who supports us, would these companies support us if they thought we were saying the wrong things around transgender issues? Ergo we are not wrong on transgender issues and women can give up their spaces’

OP posts:
Clymene · 14/09/2020 14:27

Stonewall campaign to remove rights to single sex spaces for women and for men to box and play rugby against women. Organisations really shouldn't be supporting that misogynist agenda

SunsetBeetch · 14/09/2020 14:33

I'd like to know which ones wrote to the government to support the removal of women's rights, and whether they understood that that was what they were in effect doing.
