Who has abortions? According to Marie Stopes Australia, it’s men... and “people”

A Marie Stopes Australia post on Facebook is attracting a bit of attention... 5 pictures, the first one just a graphic that says “Who has abortions?”. The next four slides are-

-Men with uteruses
-People who already have children
-People with a wanted pregnancy
-People who use contraception

Just shy of 800 comments... apparently GC comments were being deleted left right and centre but MSA have updated to say they are no longer “moderating” the discussion.

www.facebook.com/810047862456121/posts/3095104533950431/?extid=sleFTcNldQcFBsya&d=n

This is how they’ve captioned the post...

EDIT: TRIGGER WARNING

Unfortunately this post has attracted discriminatory and hateful comments that are simply unacceptable. As we are a very small team managing this page, we don’t feel we’re able to moderate the comment section any longer.

Our intention was never to erase women and their experiences, instead, we are aiming to highlight the stories that aren’t often told. There are many, many stories and tonight’s post was just a small sample.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this post 💙

Abortion is a sexual and reproductive health service that many people may access, and it’s important that we destigmatise those who may decide to seek an abortion.

From men with uteruses, to people who already have children - the list of people who may have abortions is endless.

Abortion is healthcare, and we will continue to help those who seek abortions access them safely.

Slide 3: People who already have children. An illustration of 2 people looking to their left. The 1st person has brown hair styled into a plait, gold hoop earrings and a yellow t-shirt. The 2nd person has short brown hair and is wearing a light green collared shirt under a dark green jumper.
Slide 4: People with a wanted pregnancy. An illustration of 2 people looking at each other. The first person has blonde hair styled into a pony tail, is wearing glasses and a light blue collared shirt under a maroon jumper. The 2nd person has black hair in a bun, wearing a green necklace with a blue pendant and a white shirt.
Slide 5: People who use contraception. An illustration of a person with short black hair wearing gold hoop earrings and a maroon turtleneck shirt. They are looking at their cup of tea. There is steam coming out of the yellow cup.

Deleted? For goodness sake. They know only females need abortions. They know and we know. Everybody bloody knows. It's sheer and utter sophistry.

Datun · 14/09/2020 09:44

An abortion charity is an obvious target for a form of regulatory capture.

No charity that deals with abortion would be under the slightest doubt about how this affects only women.

It's so clearly deliberate. To not even mention the word woman? To only mention the word man, when, and because it applies to trans ideology?

The arrogance is off the scale. As a previous poster said, way to fuck off 100% of your clientele in one fell swoop.

The words men and people should not be used, in any way shape or form, when identifying who needs an abortion.

If you have to make a disclaimer, say it's for women, however they identify.

Or alternatively, line up the number of women, identifying as men, who will refuse to use your service, next to the number of actual women you fucked off so badly, that they'll find any alternative they can.

Then look at how either of those two scenarios affects your funding.

Then decide.

Yeah, inclusivity os not getting rid of one group in favour of another. That's, like, the opposite of inclusivity.

highame · 14/09/2020 09:52

I would hazard a guess that only a % of MtF trans would be triggered and I suspect .....well, you finish the sentence. The % who wouldn't be triggered perhaps have a better understanding of women.

I feel a delete coming on...........

highame · 14/09/2020 09:57

on a personal note. I had a abortion in the 70's and I remember distinctly, there being no men, not at all. Even the staff were all female. Any men were in the background. those were the days when misogyny was rife, but there was an understanding of women stuff

They also reposted an image showing how vulvas come in different shapes and sizes. Complete with diagrams. One of the 'vulva's is a penis.

ArabellaScott · 14/09/2020 10:42

Aw, no, Binky, no. That's just so wrong. Sad

Linky-poo?

ArabellaScott · 14/09/2020 10:50

I thought I'd have a look at Marie Stopes UK's facebook. Refreshingly still uses 'women' and 'girls' throughout, one time used 'women and pregnant people' on a post about inclusivity, which seems fair enough.

Also this on there:

'In the UK, one in three women will have one or more #abortion in their lifetime. Yet, this aspect of women’s healthcare is not often talked about in every day conversation🗣'

Is there some sort of secret competition to out batshit each other for shits and giggles? Because just when you think it can’t get any more ludicrous, something like this comes up. I’d like to think there’s a bet or a dare because the alternative is that people are losing their minds.

Are you sure they reposted that? It was on an Australian youth health website I thought
ArabellaScott · 14/09/2020 11:28

Marie Stopes Australia have apparently deleted any posts that disagree with their erasure of women or asked them to include women. No matter how polite or factual or reasonable.

However, they've left up all the 'shut up TERF Karen' posts.

Disgusting behaviour. They should be truly ashamed.
ArabellaScott · 14/09/2020 11:41

They're taking the absolutely most cowardly route and deleting any criticism while leaving up sexist, misogynist comments as proxies for their own words. I try not to feel contemptuous of people, but ...

Oliversmumsarmy · 14/09/2020 11:55

It gets worse.

They think men have a uterus
And
The think a penis is a vulva

I might not have passed GCSE biology but even I know these things aren’t true.

If the people at Marie Stopes aren’t familiar with basic biology I would be worried what they would do to someone in their care

I wonder if an actual man went in and demanded an abortion what their response would be.

Fimofriend · 14/09/2020 11:55

I reported them for fake news as men cannot have uteruses.

Floisme · 14/09/2020 12:52

I'm not sure why this has got to me quite so much when basically it's just a logical extension of all the menstruater and birthing people stories. But anyway here I am, raging at these craven fools who are scared to name the people who gave birth to them in case it upsets some men. I really don't know what else to say.

ArabellaScott · 14/09/2020 13:04

For me, it's such a deeply female issue. Women deal wth massive amounts of stress and judgement when it comes to abortion. It's only us that deals with the bodily reality of it, with pregnancy, it's only us that faces childbirth and post partum issues, PND, breastfeeding and all its attendent issues. Largely it's women that will deal with judgement, guilt, regret, attacks, etc.

Any woman in need of a service like Marie Stopes is in a vulnerable and precarious position as it is. That MS have put sneering, nasty, cruel and vindictive smears on their page - allowing 'terf' and 'Karen' insults to stand - seems to be kicking women when they're down.

And it feels like all the people who like to try and control women through controlling access to abortion and healthcare will be delighted by this - abortion providers who alienate, sneer at, ignore and ridicule women is just misogynistic heaven. It's all about control, of course - control of women's bodies includes compelled speech and calling them out for wrongthink, for not believing the nonsensical anti-biology idea that men need access to abortion.

HepzibahGreen · 14/09/2020 13:41

I wonder. How many male identifying women have been pregnant in Australia (or anywhere)? It can't exactly be common!
Anyway, yes, these people have lost their fucking minds. Only women and girls will ever need an abortion. The end.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/09/2020 13:41

The longer I look into this ideology, the less time I have for any of it.

Yes I think many of us have got to this point! It's all such Emperor's New Clothes nonsense, once you see it, you can't ever unsee it.

KayakingOnDown · 14/09/2020 13:51

The words men and people should not be used, in any way shape or form, when identifying who needs an abortion.

Yes.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/09/2020 14:29

I’m a woman, I’m happy to be referred to as a person or a people.

No, I'm not. No man has ever got pregnant.

Oliversmumsarmy · 14/09/2020 14:58

Any woman in need of a service like Marie Stopes is in a vulnerable and precarious position as it is

But do they cater for women?

No where in their advert does it say they cater for women.

They cater for people and men.
People can be Male or female but as they are mentioning things that only women can do and instead using the term people then I would think that service was not for me.
