Who has abortions? According to Marie Stopes Australia, it’s men... and “people”

A Marie Stopes Australia post on Facebook is attracting a bit of attention... 5 pictures, the first one just a graphic that says “Who has abortions?”. The next four slides are-

-Men with uteruses
-People who already have children
-People with a wanted pregnancy
-People who use contraception

Just shy of 800 comments... apparently GC comments were being deleted left right and centre but MSA have updated to say they are no longer “moderating” the discussion.

www.facebook.com/810047862456121/posts/3095104533950431/?extid=sleFTcNldQcFBsya&d=n

This is how they’ve captioned the post...

EDIT: TRIGGER WARNING

Unfortunately this post has attracted discriminatory and hateful comments that are simply unacceptable. As we are a very small team managing this page, we don’t feel we’re able to moderate the comment section any longer.

Our intention was never to erase women and their experiences, instead, we are aiming to highlight the stories that aren’t often told. There are many, many stories and tonight’s post was just a small sample.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this post 💙

Abortion is a sexual and reproductive health service that many people may access, and it’s important that we destigmatise those who may decide to seek an abortion.

From men with uteruses, to people who already have children - the list of people who may have abortions is endless.

Abortion is healthcare, and we will continue to help those who seek abortions access them safely.

Slide 3: People who already have children. An illustration of 2 people looking to their left. The 1st person has brown hair styled into a plait, gold hoop earrings and a yellow t-shirt. The 2nd person has short brown hair and is wearing a light green collared shirt under a dark green jumper.
Slide 4: People with a wanted pregnancy. An illustration of 2 people looking at each other. The first person has blonde hair styled into a pony tail, is wearing glasses and a light blue collared shirt under a maroon jumper. The 2nd person has black hair in a bun, wearing a green necklace with a blue pendant and a white shirt.
Slide 5: People who use contraception. An illustration of a person with short black hair wearing gold hoop earrings and a maroon turtleneck shirt. They are looking at their cup of tea. There is steam coming out of the yellow cup.

Yep, apology is now removed

Am I right in thinking that according to the Qur'an the testimony of a woman is worth half that of a man?

In the religion of the Woke, it seems that the complaint of a woman is worth about 1/25 of a transperson's.

BlackWaveComing · 14/09/2020 05:51

@Emmmie

Appology removed (I think).
Un-fucking-believable!!!
maddiemookins16mum · 14/09/2020 06:11

Men can’t get pregnant. End of.

iguanadonna · 14/09/2020 06:43

So they think that to 'destigmatize' who needs an abortion, they have to not use the word woman. That's pretty depressing.

I've wondered for a while if this surge of female biology erasure in organizations comes from women who've given up on the idea that we can ever get accepted as really human and so think it better to try to pretend that issues which are problematic for us actually apply to men as well. Avoiding using the filthy words women and female because they've decided that arguing for women's rights in healthcare and everything else is hopeless.

I thought I saw their CEO Simon Cooke apologise on twitter as well but cant seem to find the tweets this am....

Simon Cooke tweets and replies

'Primarily' women and girls. Oh come on.

I'm fed up of this whole thing. You cannot identify out of your biological sex. A man cannot get pregnant. Only women can bear a child. Why is the whole world pretending otherwise?

The longer I look into this ideology, the less time I have for any of it.

FlyingSquid · 14/09/2020 07:10

Due credit to him for including girls, though. It’s not just adult women who need abortions.

chipperfish · 14/09/2020 07:14

Glad I didnt dream it
I thought the world was going sane again
Oh well.....

merrymouse · 14/09/2020 07:14

They are stigmatising the word ‘woman’ as a word that conveys distasteful things about identity, even though that compromises their ability to talk about access to abortion in terms of equality.

‘Man’ however is not a distasteful word, so they are happy to use that.

iguanadonna · 14/09/2020 07:21

The fb posts seem to have gone. Can't find Simon Cooke's tweets either. Are they trying to pretend this never happened?

Emmmie · 14/09/2020 07:26

Who is at risk for prostate cancer? Women with prostate.
Can you imagine the outrage if the leading prostate cancer organisation had made this statement?!

Today I saw women and girls excluded from a topic about abortion. I worry for my unborn daughter.

AngeloMysterioso · 14/09/2020 07:29

Simon Cooke’s tweets are still there but otherwise yep, looks like it!

'Primarily women and girls'?

He said pri-fucking-marily?

Who do you think grew you and gave birth to you, Simon Cooke? Who risked her health- if not her life - doing it?
Who has probably been unable to run or laugh ever since without wetting herself, (not that she'd ever tell you that because she would hate you to feel bad about it)?

And you can't even bring yourself to say the word without a 'primarily'?

Get out of here before I get angry.

SerenityNowwwww · 14/09/2020 07:47

CEOs a man? He obviously doesn’t really understand the job.

OhHolyJesus · 14/09/2020 07:49

Wasn't there some kind of scandal around how much Simon Cooke gets paid?

For his salary you'd think he could at least get the words right.

I think he has two daughters.

BlackWaveComing · 14/09/2020 07:51

I missed the meeting where women voted en masse to decouple woman from female and attach it to gender.

Only women and girls need abortions!

SerenityNowwwww · 14/09/2020 07:52

I think the girls were at home knitting the tea that night.

Smallsteps88 · 14/09/2020 07:54

@Emmmie

Appology removed (I think).
Oh they are fucking spineless!

Absolutely zero conviction whatsoever. They don’t have a clue who is rowing their boat.

SD1978 · 14/09/2020 07:59

It just highlights the rabbit hole doesn't it. Men can have abortions, but women can't be mentioned. Have to be called people to not further offend men.......

OhHolyJesus · 14/09/2020 08:07

Here is the global press officer's contacts.

CranberriesChoccyAgain · 14/09/2020 08:29

Had a look at their other FB posts and they don't appear overly woke. I wonder if this was a test to get a feel for how being "inclusive" Confused would go down with the public.

CranberriesChoccyAgain · 14/09/2020 08:31

@SD1978

Agree. This doesn't seem to be about including transmen so much as not wanting to trigger or offend transwomen who think they are women in every sense.
SerenityNowwwww · 14/09/2020 08:31

I had a look and didn’t really see the words women or men mentioned (even in posts about vasectomies). How confusing...
