Sorry for the daily fail link but has anyone seen this? Sanitary products for people who menstruate from Superdrug. What were they thinking?

Is the "people who shave" comparable? I don't think it is as men who shave isn't the same as trans men would call themselves men too.
So already inclusive, being trans men.
Trans men with women's products though, not inclusive for trans men.

It's so frustratingly one-way. A woman decides she wants to be a man, but she still needs products designed for women, because she is one. But I am discouraged from using this factual language because she wants to be seen and spoken about as a man.

BaronessWrongCrowd · 04/09/2020 20:45

@Quaagars

I look forward to the day that condoms come with packaging that says they are for people who ejaculate

See, how is that comparable as well?
Women don't ejaculate (yes, before anyone jumps on me, some trans women might) but I'd assume they wouldn't want to be included on condom packets for the exact same reason trans men want to be included on sanitary products?
I'd have thought trans women would hardly want to be included in something they don't identify as, but trans men don't get a choice in sometimes having to menstruate so makes sense (to me anyway) to include them.
Takes nothing away from me, I still know I'm a woman who needs them once a month.

Oh did you quote me? Huzzah.

If dehumanising language can be used for women, then the same is true of men non?

Just for Men for example should become Just for people who produce sperm.

And yet men get to remain men. The companies wouldn't dreaaaam of changing it. It's always women being forced to accommodate. Why is that? Hmmmm

JulieHere · 04/09/2020 20:46

I just wondered how many TransMen that still menstruate are out there? How many are we attempting to avoid upsetting whilst ignoring that the vast majority of people that menstruate are biological WOMEN.

I menstruate, it's bloody messy and I wish I didn't - I am a biological woman - born one and still one.

JulieHere · 04/09/2020 20:47

Some women ejaculate... therefore condoms should be for people who ejaculate and get rid of the men thing then

NiceGerbil · 04/09/2020 21:05

Of course it's the same.

A transwoman in a relationship with a 'person with a vagina' would still need condoms if they have PIV sex.

Having men or man anywhere on the packaging would be exclusionary in the same way as sanitary protection having woman written on it.

And anyone can buy sanitary towels or condoms. Does that person think that men never buy them for partners WTF? A weirdly old fashioned view to see periods as something that men would never purchase anything for.

A pointer about really firm traditional ideas of gender role and behaviours.

Quaagars · 04/09/2020 21:07

Your naivety (or wilful ignorance) around the trans umbrella is astounding. No wonder you can't come up with a coherent argument.
Well, that's me told. Hmm
Do you actually have anything to say on the comment instead of just quoting to say ""worra load of poo, you stoopid!"?

Quaagars · 04/09/2020 21:11

Oh did you quote me? Huzzah

Confused Grin

WTF lol
Are we back at school?! Grin It's like being in the playground.
Why can't anyone just comment on differing opinions like actual adults?
It's bonkers Grin

NiceGerbil · 04/09/2020 21:12

'Women don't ejaculate (yes, before anyone jumps on me, some trans women might) but I'd assume they wouldn't want to be included on condom packets for the exact same reason trans men want to be included on sanitary products?'

Then it should say people with penises obviously.

Plenty of trans women have sex with women of the vagina type. And therefore condom use shouldn't be associated with men. We're told all the time that some women have penises.

NiceGerbil · 04/09/2020 21:13

I have Quagaars if you want to discuss.

Quaagars · 04/09/2020 21:17

Then it should say people with penises obviously

Does it even say anything on them about men, or any kind of blurb at all on the back?
Interested as to whether men are mentioned at all now!

Yes of course it is, dear. Hmm
threesecrets · 04/09/2020 21:20

Why doesn't Jake Edwards (female to male) have his womb etc removed so he doesn't menstruate? Genuine question really and assumes all trans would to complete transition.

DialSquare · 04/09/2020 21:20

I have no intention of going round and round with you Quaagars. I would suggest you educate yourself on who is considered trans under the stonewall trans umbrella. Quite a few of them are very fond of their penises. Ironically, many of the old school transexuals who I imagine you have in mind when discussing transwomen on these boards, actually agree with the GC viewpoint. They believe that the TRA agenda is causing great harm and is undermining their experiences. So be aware of just who you are supporting when you are being "inclusive".

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 04/09/2020 21:21

Good fucking point - they seem to know what a woman is when they want to charge them more for things like razors by marketing them a certain way

And when they want to sell expensive ‘period’ painkillers

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 04/09/2020 21:22

@JulieHere

Yup
Quaagars · 04/09/2020 21:27

Already have, ta.
This thread is about trans men included on sanitary products though and our thoughts on that.
Not sure where all the hostility "round and round" comments and "huzzah!" crap is coming from, can't people disagree with different opinions without resorting to being five years old?!

barkingmadmother · 04/09/2020 21:31

@Kaiserin

'As a trans person who still experiences periods, I dread the days when my supplies start running low. 'I run through a million scenarios of people staring at me, questioning me, laughing behind my back. Now I can confidently walk into a Superdrug and if anyone challenged me I could point to the packet and say "look, this is made for me"

Err... What?
I mean, back in the real world... Has anyone ever been "challenged" at the till for buying sanitary products? If you look ever so slightly female (androgynous people have existed for a while), no one bats an eyelid. And if you look like a manly man (and possibly slightly embarrassed), people just assume you're some sweet guy buying them for your girlfriend/wife?

I understand there's some deep social anxiety underneath this kind of paranoid thinking, and I don't want to make light of someone's mental health issues, but really shouldn't such toxic, irrational, narcissistic thoughts be challenged (ideally by a skilled therapist)? ("no, the whole world is not staring at you, constantly trying to guess what's in your pants")
Instead the unhealthy paranoia gets validated... For woke marketing purposes!

THIS. Paranoia turned into marketing strategy. Fuck Superdrug. I will never set foot in one again.
SerenityNowwwww · 04/09/2020 21:32

Have they not heard of online ordering?

DialSquare · 04/09/2020 21:51

You brought transwomen into this thread Quaagars. I will take note that you know exactly who is covered under the trans umbrella and you still think they should all be let into female single sex spaces.

Quaagars · 04/09/2020 22:02

You brought transwomen into this thread Quaagars

Yes, and if you read back you will see context - I was commenting on someone who was talking about condoms and how that would be comparable and me saying me, I don't think it would be really and this is why.

Quaagars · 04/09/2020 22:06

*tyou know exactly who is covered under the trans umbrella and you still think they should all be let into female single sex spaces.

Don't put words in my mouth or presume to know what I think - I never said that at all.
I was told to patronisingly go educate myself, so I said, yes actually, I already have.
Nowhere did I say that "all should be let into female single sex spaces", just that this thread is about trans men inclusivity and that's what I was commenting on.

brakethree · 04/09/2020 22:08

"I would suggest you educate yourself on who is considered trans under the stonewall trans umbrella"

No thanks, I don't want or want my children/workplace etc to have any 'education' from Stonewall

Women, adult human females, menstruate

NiceGerbil · 04/09/2020 22:10

Well the NHS does and more than that, it explicitly links male and female with their reproduction.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/contraception/male-condoms/

NiceGerbil · 04/09/2020 22:15

Whether condoms do, not sure.

Something else then. The incontinence pads for men. One brand is called tena men.

NiceGerbil · 04/09/2020 22:17

If people menstruate, but only 51 % of the population have had a period, shouldn't the other 49% have investigations done?
