calling once more for a more nuanced debate around gender identity and women's rights. It's here https://www.jkrowling.com/opinions/statement-from-j-k-rowling-regarding-the-robert-f-kennedy-human-rights-ripple-of-hope-award/.

Thanks JKR

Thank you JKR. For standing up again for what I know is right. You are a shining star in all this madness.

Milicentbystander72 · 28/08/2020 08:46

Woke up to see JKR trending on twitter and my heart sank a bit expecting the pile-on of yet more vile abuse and lies about her. Then I read her statement and felt a bit taller.

She absolutely wonderful. I truly believe that in years from now statues will be placed in cities of her as one of the bravest, principled and resistant women of out time.

Thank you JKR Thanks

turbonerd · 28/08/2020 08:57

JimminyCricketwhites
She adressed that «like» earlier, I believe. She said she was taking screenshots and that accidently pressed the «like» button.

Only this week I had someone write that the voice of a sexual abuse victim and her stance on not wanting to share women only changing rooms (because of trauma) could not trump her trans voice. In effect: a cis voice was less than a trans voice. Not sure about that logic!
Disclaimer: I dont Get the cis-crap and never use it, but these were the words used.

" From her own words, I take Rowling’s position to be that the sex one is assigned at birth is the primary and determinative factor of one’s gender, regardless of one’s gender identity—a position that I categorically reject. The science is clear and conclusive: Sex is not binary."

The "sex is not binary" quote from Kerry Kennedy is a link, which links to an Anne Fausto-Sterling article, who herself has rubbished her own article and effectively said sex is binary and that this was a joke that nobody should pay attention to.

How embarrassing.

But yes, sunlight.

And this final line from JK:

"... but no award or honour, no matter my admiration for the person for whom it was named, means so much to me that I would forfeit the right to follow the dictates of my own conscience."

Fantastic.

What a class act Flowers

WagnersFourthSymphony · 28/08/2020 09:10

Jane Clare Jones has tweeted supporting JKR with a great takedown of the Kennedy letter, in coloured ink!

@DialSquare

She is everything we could hope for. She even tells them to shove their award up their arse in a classy and dignified way!
🤣
RoyalCorgi · 28/08/2020 09:20

Throughout this whole business JKR has behaved with incredible decency, humanity and dignity. She is indeed a class act. It's worth a huge amount to have her on our side because anybody who knows anything at all about her knows that she's a good human being.

SoManyActivities · 28/08/2020 09:23

I believe the time is coming when those organisations and individuals who have uncritically embraced fashionable dogma, and demonised those urging caution, will have to answer for the harm they’ve enabled.

but no award or honour, no matter my admiration for the person for whom it was named, means so much to me that I would forfeit the right to follow the dictates of my own conscience.

I've just welled up a bit reading that. She absolutely epitomises integrity. How easy it would be for her to just TWAW along with the rest of them, or just say nothing at all.

But she has chosen to speak out, knowing the shit that will rain down on her every time she does so. Every time I see she has written something new, a tiny part of me worries that she will have backpedaled in some way, that I will be ever so slightly disappointed. But I guess I'm just projecting my own standards there - this woman is made of steel!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/08/2020 09:55

Someone said that they thought integrity had gone out of fashion. Thankfully not. Thanks

OrlandointheWilderness · 28/08/2020 10:04

I hope, in years to come when all this is over, she gets serious recognition for this. She has put her head on the block again, because she truly believes in this.

Beautifully written as usual and I cannot understand why people can not grasp the truth of her statements. She is utterly brilliant.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 28/08/2020 10:15

She Who Will Not Be Cancelled has proved once again that she's a star.
Ds1 has just finished reading Philosopher's Stone and is eager for the next one.
Might have to start reading the Strike series myself.

I don't think integrity has ever been 'in fashion' - people with integrity don't prioritise fashions. The thoughts of serious people of integrity stand the test of time.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/08/2020 10:21

Yes that's a fair point, Errol.

Jellyeggs · 28/08/2020 10:26

Thanks Joanne. Sometimes I start to wonder if I am a hateful person for not believing that trans women are women. Thanks for reminding me why that isn’t true.

MoreListeningLessChatting · 28/08/2020 10:27

Very eloquently written.

A stark contrast to the hate speech towards her from TRA supporters whenever she makes her views known.

Winesalot · 28/08/2020 10:29

I am so glad that when I read everything she has written on this that I am not alone with my thoughts. She encapsulates it everytime but with more clarity than I could bring to it. Not a spare word in her writing on this topic really.

AbsintheFriends · 28/08/2020 10:33

Whenever #IstandwithJKRowling trends on twitter the contrast between the unpunctuated, inarticulate abuse from denouncers and the intelligent, science and logic-based tweets of her (mostly female) supporters is SO MARKED.

It makes it even more bewildering that politicians and public figures continue to trot out the 'right side of history' line, and perpetuate the lie that this is about 'being kind'. Even if I'd just landed from Mars, knew nothing about the issues and had to pick a room to go into, I'd think twice about entering the one with the spitting, swearing people with their baseball bats and threats.

Wolfgirrl · 28/08/2020 10:38

What a woman! And one of the rare kind of people that stand by their conscience, no matter what.

DorisDaisyMay · 28/08/2020 10:41

She is amazing.

Thank you JK if you are reading this x

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 28/08/2020 10:50

I feel so proud to stand with her and all of you. Star

MindTheMinotaur · 28/08/2020 10:56

She is wonderful and a very dignified statement.

JKRisagryff · 28/08/2020 10:58

She is amazing. She deserves that award more than anyone just now.
