calling once more for a more nuanced debate around gender identity and women's rights. It's here https://www.jkrowling.com/opinions/statement-from-j-k-rowling-regarding-the-robert-f-kennedy-human-rights-ripple-of-hope-award/.

Thanks JKR

I love JK Rowling. This whole battle to protect vulnerable women and children seems so much more hopeful with her speaking out like this. Her statements are always dignified, moderate and intelligent. Thank you Joanne 🌟

I was looking for details of the new Strike novel last night and stumbled across a Reddit forum where several people were twisting themselves in knots trying to justify buying the book next month and “separating the art from the artist” and her “thoughtless comments”

  • Someone asked what they were talking about.
  • One person posted some links to articles where they described her as transphobic.
  • Another posted “here’s a link to what she actually wrote”.
The first person read it and said “that’s not so bad. You might not agree, but she’s obviously thought about the issue”

She's absolutely incredible. I've honestly never seen such integrity from a celebrity. She's a true feminist and human rights icon and history will remember her that way. I have so much respect and admiration for her.

IheartJKR · 28/08/2020 07:45

Wow. What a woman.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 28/08/2020 07:47

I can't face reading any of this yet today, just reading this thread makes me feel sick. Poor JKR. I will read later, and probably send another email & card to JKR in support.

Random789 · 28/08/2020 07:56

Great article.

Although I'm so unhappy, on JKR's behalf' that she should have been put through the appalling injustice and trauma of false accusation and misogynistic abuse, it is hard to think of anyone who is more able than she is to transform these attacks on her into something that will be counterproductive for the aggressive advocates of gender ideology.

'Nonetheless, she persisted' could have been coined for her. She is articulate and powerful enough to keep coming back strongly no matter what is thrown at her. And the best thing is that her evident compassion, demonstrated in her charitable activities over the years, continues to shine through despite all provocation.

Just maintaining that kindness, through everything, is powerful in itself. Eventually, surely, everyone who continues to attack her for 'transphobia' will be forced to confront the absolute unrealism of their stance.

AntsInPenzance · 28/08/2020 07:56

After all the crap that has been thrown at her - the misogyny, the rape threats and death threats, for her to still speak up and not be silenced shows real courage.

inappropriateraspberry · 28/08/2020 08:02

She sums it up so well. I am positive that in the next few years, there are going to be so many young people suddenly stuck in a limbo of sex and gender, not knowing what they truly are as they have been pushed too fast into transitioning.
I wish people would jump off the bandwagon. It's going to lose a wheel or two very soon.

MoltenLasagne · 28/08/2020 08:12

I honestly can't believe she reacts with such grace. If someone was out there telling blatant lies about what I said and I was JKR I'd be invoking lawyers fast. She is a far greater woman than I am.

Again she writes a heartfelt piece that gets to the very nub of the issue - untested experimentation on children and women's rights.

RUOKHon · 28/08/2020 08:17

I’m so grateful for her and to her. SO grateful.

Deliriumoftheendless · 28/08/2020 08:22

Woman of The Year.

SheWhoMustNotBeHeard · 28/08/2020 08:23

Amazing woman. She is eloquent and has integrity. 👏🏻👏🏻🙏

@TweeBree

Her father's name still has a lot of weight in the US, but Kerry Kennedy is a joke: nypost.com/2016/07/31/kerry-kennedys-fury-sends-family-charity-spiraling-staff/

She claims to be a great advocate for human rights — but former employees tell The Post that behind closed doors, Kerry Kennedy is a monster who’s driving her father’s legacy into the ground.

“For someone who’s a human-rights lawyer, I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who cares so little for the people who work for her,” says an employee who resigned from the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights. “She treats them so badly, belittling and embarrassing them in front of others. Everyone who works there is brilliant, but there is very high turnover.”

In the past year, sources say, at least nine employees have quit.

“In general, she treats everyone as the person who would go get her coffee,” says another former executive. “Her attitude is, ‘You’re here to do what I want you to do.’ RFK surrounded himself with people who would say no and push back against him. She surrounds herself with people who won’t challenge her and who say yes no matter what.”

These employees could never figure out what the foundation’s goals were.

Multiple sources — all of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity — say Kennedy uses foundation funds to pay for lavish expenses and the foundation itself as an excuse to party with celebs around the globe. The foundation’s most recent tax filings show she paid herself $357,340 in 2014. That same year, she took out a $2.4 million line of credit for the center, which has offices in DC and on Manhattan’s Madison Avenue.

That's interesting Twee. And unsurprising really.

It's one thing to be misinformed. It's quite another to be so globally public about it.

It appears as though this women isn't interested in the actual truth or the issues JK is talking about.

Wilfully blind.

JK disassociating from the organisation sounds sensible irrespective of the trans issue.

Siablue · 28/08/2020 08:26

This is so sad, poor JKR. But in handing back the award she is doing the very thing she was awarded it for, standing up for an ideal.

yomellamoHelly · 28/08/2020 08:28

Love what she's doing.

Meceme · 28/08/2020 08:28

I stand with JK Rowling. A woman of intelligence and integrity.

blackmushrooms · 28/08/2020 08:29

She is amazing. We need someone on board like her and she is proving to be more incredible than I imagined she could be. It's so rare you hear of someone truly standing up for a cause.
I can only hope she does help people wake up quicker than what's currently happening.

Great post. Especially 'Nonetheless, she persisted' suiting JK.

It personifies what she's doing.

I see her as totally over the backlash. Battle scarred, but even more determined.

So many women feel the same. This IS the 'right side of history'. It's obvious. And the grim anger propelling us all simply doesn't diminish. Ever.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 28/08/2020 08:33

@Neome

Perfect moment to preorder the next Comoran Strike
I’ve just done exactly that!

I bought the first book when her first statement was made and she started getting backlash. And her second when she made the second statement. I then read them and enjoyed them so much I greedily bought (and devoured!) the next two!

persistentwoman · 28/08/2020 08:34

A magnificent statement from a great woman. But reading the science / fact denying statement from the organisation is quite chilling. There are no lengths that people will go to to eradicate women's very biology and identity.

Thank you JKR.

Sexnotgender · 28/08/2020 08:37

Genuinely couldn’t love her more. She’s amazing, such integrity in stark contrast to those compromising their integrity for woke cookies.

CaveMum · 28/08/2020 08:38

She’s an utterly amazing woman. I’d follow her anywhere.

I’ve said it before - if she ever considers running for political office, I’ll be there in a heartbeat, and I’m sure many, many other women (and men) feel the same.

queenofknives · 28/08/2020 08:44

She's such an incredible example of what it means to have moral integrity. Alongside her brilliant creative achievements, she should be known far and wide for her courage. It's made me so sad to read the pathetic attacks on her by moral cowards and idiots. She responds with such grace and dignity, rises so far above them that they can't even see her.

DialSquare · 28/08/2020 08:44

She is everything we could hope for. She even tells them to shove their award up their arse in a classy and dignified way!
