calling once more for a more nuanced debate around gender identity and women's rights. It's here https://www.jkrowling.com/opinions/statement-from-j-k-rowling-regarding-the-robert-f-kennedy-human-rights-ripple-of-hope-award/.

Thanks JKR

Didn’t they only give her the award in December? counts the months on fingers*

Go easy on 'em Eyes, you can see they're struggling to wrap their heads around the oh so difficult basics of biological sex. You expect them to understand maths too? You're expecting too much of them.

Cuddling57 · 29/08/2020 23:19

Can we make our own award for her:
Woman of 2020
Star

ErrolTheDragon · 29/08/2020 23:20

Pan, Calendars are just an imperialist cultural concept. (Possibly that might even be true.... but a year as determined by the movement of the earth is scienceGrin)

ErrolTheDragon · 29/08/2020 23:21

That was meant to start Pah...Hmm

SoManyActivities · 29/08/2020 23:23

I bet JKR is doubly glad she gave back that award now, seeing the behaviour of these people on twitter.

They could join forces with the 5000 is .01% , no 5 million, no 0.1%, no 1% pair and go on Cats Down Countdown, the numbers round would be hilarious

Kristopher got pwned by Maya - she is fab! I could only read half the conversation because Kristopher decided way too late to hide his ego posturing vanity posts. It’s a little too late though as it’s now all over twitter.

Just putting this here - it might be for posterity if RFKHR decide to ‘part ways’ after his ill judged and ill timed tweets.

rfkhumanrights.org/people/kristopher-sharp

Kristopher Sharp is a Program Officer at Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, where he oversees the expansion of a university based program that teaches students how to become community organizers. A former congressional aide to Senator Patty Murray and the LGBT Equality Caucus, he was also the recipient of the 2014 National LGBTQ Taskforce’s Paul A. Anderson Youth Leadership Award, part of the inaugural True Colors Fund’s “40 of the Forty,” and recipient of the 2013 Human Rights Campaign Young Leader for Equality Award. He earned a bachelor degree in social work from the University of Houston in 2015 and a Master’s in public administration from Texas Southern University in 2016.

JKR still rocks the most. I ❤️ JKR

@Igneococcus

"Verschlimmbessern" might work sophocles
It’s getting there, but I don’t think it quite encompasses the sheer joy of them trying to take their ball and go home, only to realise too late that JKR already had the ball, their football boots, the net and the half time oranges Grin

I just really enjoy it when pompous self righteous blowhards get shown up with quiet dignity and JKR is a fucking master craftswoman at it. Beautiful.

SophocIestheFox · 30/08/2020 06:29

Anyone got a link to Kristopher vs Maya? I do enjoy a bit of online blood sports of a Sunday morning 😬

Igneococcus · 30/08/2020 07:24

Yeah, sophocles this is even beyond the German language to express adequately in one word, although Fremdschaemen on behalf of the Volltrottel is probably asked for.

ItsLateHumpty · 30/08/2020 09:03

SophocIestheFox I’m not on twitter either, but I went to Mayas’ tweets and looked at her replies here twitter.com/MForstater/with_replies

Look for any reply to @sharpkristopher the convo is approx 10 / 11 hours ago and her first tweet to him is here twitter.com/MForstater/status/1299809063753179139

Hope that helps 😬

highame · 30/08/2020 09:48

Maybe not in the right place but another good article from Stephen Daisley. Cancel culture but relevant I think

the cartoon is great Grin

Thanks! I can see her side of the conversation, but tirelessly heroic crusader for human rights Kristopher has now protected his tweets 😬
Datun · 30/08/2020 10:30

Crikey, Maya's good.

Her Tweets are the very definition of assertiveness - self assured and confident without being aggressive.

I read a bit of the other side of the conversation yesterday. But reading her side only is extraordinary.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 30/08/2020 12:36

Are we still waiting for RFKHR's follow up statement which will properly show that JKR is awful? Have I missed it?

OP posts:
Floisme · 30/08/2020 12:41

My guess is that they daren't put out a statement till their lawyers have been all over it. Which is kind of odd because, if it were correct, what would be the problem?

That is interesting that this Kennedy board member is a partner at Dentons.

It's just so predictable, isn't it.

Well well well

For those unfamiliar with Dentons....

www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-document-that-reveals-the-remarkable-tactics-of-trans-lobbyists

"'In Ireland, Denmark and Norway, changes to the law on legal gender recognition were put through at the same time as other more popular reforms such as marriage equality legislation. This provided a veil of protection, particularly in Ireland, where marriage equality was strongly supported, but gender identity remained a more difficult issue to win public support for.'

I’ve added my bold there, because I think those are very telling phrases indeed. This is an issue that is 'difficult to win public support for' and best hidden behind the 'veil of protection' provided by a popular issue such as gay rights. Again, anyone who has even glanced at the UK transgender debate will recognise this description.

Another recommendation is even more revealing: 'Avoid excessive press coverage and exposure.'"

I just took a look at the Ripple award "laureates" list.

Since the start circa 2008 they have managed to give the award to only four women in addition to JKR, and 31 men. So losing JKR drags the ratio down to 7.5 men to every woman.

They sure do like sucking up to men.

merrymouse · 30/08/2020 13:12

They sure do like sucking up to men.

It's also pretty clear that they didn't know much about JKR when they gave her the award, and don't care enough about her now to read what she has said.

It's a pretty pointless award.

Antibles · 30/08/2020 13:26

Veil of protection indeed fleegle. Yes we've been saying that for a long time on FWR - that T is a cuckoo in the LGB nest. And everything so under the radar because they know it doesn't wash with the majority of the public.

merrymouse · 30/08/2020 13:30

Past recipients of the award include Taylor Swift.

Colin Kaepernick won this year, which is a bit odd because he has been bending the knee with limited main stream support since 2016. Apparently it took 4 years for him to be considered 'safe'?

Also this year, the CEO of Paypal was recognised.

It's just odd. What is the point? All the people who get the award seem to be already very famous or very rich. The CEO of Starbucks won in 2016 and Obama won in 2018.

Antibles · 30/08/2020 13:31

I really do think that James Kirkup does a brilliant job on this issue Star
