calling once more for a more nuanced debate around gender identity and women's rights. It's here https://www.jkrowling.com/opinions/statement-from-j-k-rowling-regarding-the-robert-f-kennedy-human-rights-ripple-of-hope-award/.

Thanks JKR

That tweet from Mimmymum sums up the mindset of Mermaids, i.e. they are the undeniable experts on transgender kids by virtue of being either parents or trans themselves.

I’m the parent of a child with multiple serious medical issues. I certainly don’t claim to be an expert in them thoughConfused

This Time article by Douglas Murray was recommended among the Times comments. It's indeed excellent. I don't know if it's been posted before, if so, I missed it (perhaps on the Sasha White thread?) But for others who missed it, here it is:

(I hope this is a share token. I did click the share envelope.)

Lamahaha · 29/08/2020 18:53

^^ Times article, not Time.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/08/2020 18:56

There's a thread on the Douglas Murray piece which should have shared links

Lamahaha · 29/08/2020 18:59

Ah, OK. I didn't see/read that thread.

RFK employee who deleted his tweet that they were going to take it back off her anyway has said that the foundation is releasing a statement today

'Hold her to account'. Hmm What a patronising tone. Who the fuck do they think they are, her mother?

yourhairiswinterfire · 29/08/2020 20:13

Sounds a bit like they're pissed off that JKR got in their first before they could, regarding the 'takes months' comment. Seems a bit of a childish "well we were going to take it off you anyway, so ner ner."

EyesOpening · 29/08/2020 20:13

“We did not stand idly by while JFK attacked trans people for over a year”

Didn’t they only give her the award in December? *counts the months on fingers

RedtreesRedtrees · 29/08/2020 20:23

Great to see some real integrity here and standing by principles regardless of the backlash.

Poota · 29/08/2020 20:23

Only in TRA world would "We were going to strip a woman of an accolade because she vocally supports women's rights, but we wanted control of the narrative, and she returned the accolade before we could do it" sound like the thought processes of virtuous, progressive people.

Datun · 29/08/2020 21:16

They're off the scale irrational.

Someone should tell them to just be quiet. Every word just makes them look worse.

Melroses · 29/08/2020 21:24

So they have been lobbied to remove JKR from the award, paid 10K to a trans organisation and are now recruiting trans people to the board to keep things under control.

It has a familiar ring to it Hmm

Presumably they have been educated too?

SoManyActivities · 29/08/2020 21:38

Oh my god these people are so pathetic I can't even. 'Lengthy process' my arse - if they had wanted to take the award off her they could have just done it, it's their bloody award! They are making themselves look like complete wallys.

Hmm. And here I was thinking trans people were the most vulnerable, powerless minority.
SoManyActivities · 29/08/2020 21:41

Kristopher is currently having it out with Maya Forstater and she is making him look a right prick! 😂

SophocIestheFox · 29/08/2020 21:44

Pfffffffftttttttt 🤣 I bet German has a word for “that helpless, impotent feeling when you’re comprehensively outmanoeuvred by someone far brighter than you are, and you scramble helplessly to claw back some semblance of control, only to make a complete arse of it “

🤣

Igneococcus · 29/08/2020 21:53

"Verschlimmbessern" might work sophocles

yourhairiswinterfire · 29/08/2020 21:59

Wow, he called Maya a T**f. So professional. How do they expect to be taken seriously?

TweeBree · 29/08/2020 22:20

I posted an article about her elsewhere. Kerry Kennedy runs the RFK centre like her own personal fiefdom. She would not have bothered with a 'process to remove the award'.

AbsintheFriends · 29/08/2020 22:27

He not only calls her a T**f, he calls her 'dear.' Even old-school misogynist Michael Winner got called out for that in about 2005. Clearly a very progressive organisation, with a shit-hot professional PR team 😂

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 29/08/2020 22:43

It's all very false and performative. Utterly tedious.

OP posts:
Melroses · 29/08/2020 22:50

Kristopher has locked xis/xer account now

Melroses · 29/08/2020 22:52

Yes - totally unprofessional with all that T**fing and dearing Hmm
Would expect better from an upmarket Award giver.
