around the guidance for the Equality Act 2010, and is crowdfunding for a judicial review. Thought I ought to spread the word.

I don't think you understand just how demeaning for all involved it would be if a trans woman walked into the gents toilets where a bunch of guys are using the urinal.

The problem is we're not allowed to question anyone who says they are trans. If a man says he is a woman, we're not allowed to question it for fear of transphobic accusations.

This means (because of the misinterpretations of the EA this thread is actually about) he can access the ladies.

Do you understand how demeaning it is for a 16 year old girl to be filmed getting undressed inside a cubicle? Or how demeaning it is for a woman to be filmed on the toilet by a camera on a shoe?

Chrysanthemum5 · 27/08/2020 20:26

Thanks for this info I got my spade out and dug a bit for this

MichelleofzeResistance · 27/08/2020 20:29

But expecting trans women to use the men's room shows an utter disregard for our safety and dignity. Do you honestly think that's acceptable in a society that respects the rights of minorities?

Expecting female people to give up their right to single sex spaces shows an utter disregard for their safety and dignity. Do you honestly think that's acceptable in a society that respects the rights of females as 51% of the population?

And please weigh 'demeaning' for male people to be denied an alternative to their existing provision, with 'no access to services or provision at all' for female people who cannot use mixed sex spaces.

Why do TW matter but female people don't?

Datun · 27/08/2020 20:30

It's not women's problem or concern what facilities male born individuals use.

Only what they don't use.

Hence Ann demanding legal clarification.

How is it demeaning?

ThinEndoftheWedge · 27/08/2020 20:33

non trans women

The word women works fine thanks.

boatyardblues · 27/08/2020 20:34

I’m seeing some grade A derailing on this thread. Let’s get back to Ann’s excellent legal challenge and the quality of the gardening around these parts.

DialSquare · 27/08/2020 20:34

Non trans women? Now that is demeaning.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 27/08/2020 20:43

Well said boatyardblues.

TheFleegleHasLanded · 27/08/2020 20:49

Ah, the merailing is in full flow.

14000 reasons why...

Clymene · 27/08/2020 20:49

Do let's not get derailed! Let's focus on the provisions that the EA makes to protect sex as a characteristic

PronounssheRa · 27/08/2020 20:49

It's payday for a lot of people tomorrow, I expect there will be lots of digging then.

endofthelinefinally · 27/08/2020 20:50

Indeed.

endofthelinefinally · 27/08/2020 20:51

That was to Thefleegle.

Another £40 and it will be 15.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 28/08/2020 02:38

It's just over fifteen thousand now!

Yes Milady it's very frustrating that ordinary women have to fund legal action like this rather than wealthy organisations like Stonewall putting their enormous clout behind a campaign to remind transphobic, and transactivist, men that transwomen have just as much right, legally and morally, to use the male loos as any other male human.

crunchermuncher · 28/08/2020 12:45

One would hope that parliament and MPs would get a bit more interested in the ethics of a political lobby group being enabled to reframe, adapt and alter laws in their own best interests against the decisions of the HoC and due process. Because if that's how things are going to work and that's ok, why bother with MPs or the HoC at all? Why bother with the Civil Service and equality law at all when it just says what the most powerful political lobby group want, regardless of things like fairness, equality, consideration of all tax payer interests etc?

Absolutely this.

Have dug and am writing to my MP. Democracy and the rule of law is being fundamentally undermined.

endofthelinefinally · 28/08/2020 13:18

Almost 16k

highame · 28/08/2020 15:58

I am going to write to my MP and I'm going to ask if the EHRC & Equalities Office will withdraw and do as asked or is taxpayers money going to be used to defend the indefensible?
It's also a bump

refusetobeasheep · 28/08/2020 20:53

Just pledged - thanks for the heads up

Aesopfable · 28/08/2020 21:02

I don’t want them to withdraw- this has to go to court so it can no longer be brushed under the carpet.
334bu · 28/08/2020 21:25

Over 17 now. Bump!
