around the guidance for the Equality Act 2010, and is crowdfunding for a judicial review. Thought I ought to spread the word.

Donated with joy - I love supporting powerful women - and boy do we need them!!!!

endofthelinefinally · 27/08/2020 17:10

Over 13K now.

I can't do any gardening today because it's a rainy day. I've distributed a few spades around, and hopefully I'll be able to get some gardening done myself soon.

heathspeedwell · 27/08/2020 17:46

Still rising steadily. Ann Sinnott is brilliant for pursuing this and I hope she garners lots of well-deserved media attention.

Can't quite believe we're having to dig in order that the wording of the law is followed. Law debated by Parliament, by our elected representatives. But there we are, I suppose. It's a sorry state of affairs but this is needed to sort the mess that public policy making has become.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 27/08/2020 19:13

Just over £13.5k. It keeps creeping up.

I really resent that women have to pay for this. It seems like a tax on womanhood.

Just out of interest, what DO you expect trans women to do when they need a pee and the only loos available are single sex?

BlackeyedSusan · 27/08/2020 19:24

It is great that it is creeping up.

BlackeyedSusan · 27/08/2020 19:25

And yes it does seem like a tax on womanhood, but you lot have been doing a lot more than me.

BlackeyedSusan · 27/08/2020 19:27

PPPorky.

How odd. Seems a bit too much of a coincidence

Datun · 27/08/2020 19:29

At this rate, she'll have reached her target by the end of the weekend. 💪

Just out of interest, what DO you expect female people who cannot share mixed sex spaces to do when they need a pee (or a smear test, or a refuge, or a hospital ward) and the only ones available are gender neutral?

Third spaces are the obvious answer, to equally respect all needs. Enforcing better behaviour from male people to be inclusive of all male people would also probably help. Because otherwise you are excluding some female people from any provision at all, in order to provide male people with the choice of all the provisions.

@PearPickingPorky

I have tried to share this numerous times on Twitter and every time it either doesn't show the thumbnail embedded, or stays in the "drafts" and won't post.

Hmm. How convenient.

Yes, nothing would surprise me about twitter's behaviour around this. Cf JKR's vanishing like.

It seems to allow me to retweet Ann's posts around it if you want to do that. I know you shouldn't have to, though Hmm

Have done a bit of digging. I'm so grateful for Ann and the wonderful crew of intelligent and diligent people she has assembled around her.

I have been dismayed by the misinterpretation- some wilful, some not - of the provisions of the EA to protect women only spaces and delighted that finally someone is standing up to the noxious creep of mixed sex facilities.

Datun · 27/08/2020 19:35

Why on earth is this any responsibility of women??

MichelleofzeResistance · 27/08/2020 19:35

Not sure what who uses what loo has to do with whether a law should be creatively reinterpreted by a lobby group in their own interests to say something other than what the law states.

Like PPs - not sure why this question is directed at women - not our problem. This is one for blokes to sort out. Men who support TW in woman's spaces need to stop being transphobic themselves and be inclusive of all men - irrespective of how they identify.

So I have just asked DH. He thinks most men don’t actually care how TW present and would prefer TW to pee next to him, than his DDs, DW and DM.

Also - My hypothesis is that TW are more at risk from male violence if they use women’s facilities as opposed to the men’s - fathers seeing an adult male going into the toilet/changing room after their DDs etc.

Use the toilets that match their sex. Campaign for 3rd spaces. Tena Pads. As already mentioned, it's not a problem for women to sort out.

This.
I'm sure I have read reports of this happening, but I don't remember reading reports of transwomen being assaulted in the gents'.

MiladyRenata · 27/08/2020 20:14

I don't think you understand just how demeaning for all involved it would be if a trans woman walked into the gents toilets where a bunch of guys are using the urinal.

As for it "not being your problem", I could turn that one around and ask why it's MY problem if some non trans women object to sharing facilities (with cubicles) with me.

I hate using the ladies loos, and use a gender neutral alternative whenever it's available. But expecting trans women to use the men's room shows an utter disregard for our safety and dignity. Do you honestly think that's acceptable in a society that respects the rights of minorities?

yourhairiswinterfire · 27/08/2020 20:17

Use the toilet of their sex.

Or get Stonewall to use some of that £££ to actually help in providing (or at least campaigning for) third spaces. When they're not too busy throwing sportswomen under the bus, that is.

It's not women's problem. We're not collateral damage.

Falleninwiththewrongcrowd · 27/08/2020 20:18

Why is it demeaning?

Mollscroll · 27/08/2020 20:21

It’s your problem because you are choosing to use facilities which are not for you by social convention and by law. For the safety and dignity of half of the world. You are free to use the facilities that match your sex and campaign for greater acceptance among men.
