On BBC this morning. Viewers invited to ask questions.

BBC TV? Radio?

They were asked about the £1.4 million donations to the LibDems from a pharmaceutical firm that produces puberty blockers when they were on Iain Dale’s radio show recently and both denied any knowledge of it and rapidly changed the subject.
They have had plenty of time to go away and look into that now so I am sure they will have come up with an answer should anyone want to ask them about it again...

endofthelinefinally · 24/08/2020 09:29

Sorry. TV. BBC1 now.

Layla has not mentioned being able to see souls once, she's underselling herself.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 24/08/2020 10:32

@MindTheMinotaur

Layla has not mentioned being able to see souls once, she's underselling herself.
Yep

That would deffo be a vote winner, she should give it a go

Ds1 is a member of the lib dems, though he didn’t vote for them in the last election. Might ask him who he is going to vote for

Redshoeblueshoe · 24/08/2020 11:30

That was 20 minutes of my life that I will never get back.
I'm sure Victoria Derbyshire would not be asking about puberty blockers or TW in sports

littlbrowndog · 24/08/2020 11:36

Layla look into my eyes and soul 🤦‍♀️😂😂😂😂

2Rebecca · 24/08/2020 15:04

when is it over? This must be the longest election ever. Are they trying to rival the US election? They've been leaderless for nearly 9 months

PaleBlueMoonlight · 24/08/2020 16:18

Have been listening to quite a few of the Lib Dems hustings on youtube. The Young Liberals and Diversity Hustings (links below) both saw questions about transphobia etc. It was really interesting as unlike all the other questions, both Moran and Davey emphasised they were in lock step on this unlike any other issue. The talked about how they had successfully dealt with transphobic callers on Iain Dale's show on LBC (see Mumsnet thread copied below). The chairs of each husting also went out of their way to emphasise how pleased they were about the Lib Dems position on this. The zealotry was palpable and quasi-religious, unlike in respect of any other question.

The most interesting (concerning) thing perhaps from our perspective was how Ed Davey kept emphasising how he takes advice from Helen Belcher and how Belcher was having success in working cross-party behind the scenes to oppose Liz Truss.

99point9FahrenheitDegrees · 24/08/2020 16:21

Well, I have voted as a member. Abstain was my only option. Eurgh.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 24/08/2020 16:27

I ended up abstaining: I emailed Ed Davey WEEKS ago - mid-July - and have had nothing back except automated replies despite a prompt.

I'm on the brink of ditching the LDs. The only things that are stopping me are a) my respect for an amazing local activist who has done an incredible amount of good over the last 40+ years and b) hating to feel politically voiceless.

But I think I need to accept b) now.

Kit19 · 24/08/2020 16:34

The only good thing about this shambles is that the LD won’t have a sniff of power again.

ArabellaScott · 24/08/2020 16:40

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh man.

I miss Paddy Ashdown.

GrimDamnFanjo · 24/08/2020 16:44

I miss Paddy too. And Charlie who really connected with people despite is health issues.
I've left. I won't be back in a hurry.

ArabellaScott · 24/08/2020 16:51

No. It's shite, though, they were my party of choice until it all went tits up.

TheFleegleHasLanded · 24/08/2020 18:12

'Transphobic callers'?! There was a sensible question from Victoria in Edinburgh, who clearly understood Self ID better than either of them. I would bloody well be ringing a journalist if I was her!

TheFleegleHasLanded · 24/08/2020 18:16

PaleBlue can you recall at what point in the video they mention these 'transphobic calls' as there is no way I can face hours of their nonsense?

PaleBlueMoonlight · 24/08/2020 18:59

I’ll see if I can find a time-stamp later.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 24/08/2020 19:37

So for Young liberals it is c 32 mins in

m.youtube.com/watch?v=DcHDHasC4WY&t=3883s

For diversity it is about 14.45

m.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZOztsnA6Ac

99point9FahrenheitDegrees · 25/08/2020 10:44

Our local Lib dems are great, and are pretty much the reason I'm sticking around. But nationally! NO. Just NO.

Hepcat75 · 25/08/2020 10:53

I voted Lib Dem in my first GE; I reckoned even a pissed-up Charles Kennedy was roughly 197 times better than any other candidate. Sorely missed.
Didn't mind Campbell, and was ambivalent about Cable but every other leader since Kennedy has been a total and utter shower although Swinson has been by far the most jaw-droppingly awful. Genuinely wanted to ask her if she realized that she was in charge of a (supposedly) serious political party. Her losing her seat was the only bright spot of the early hours of December 13th.

Hepcat75 · 25/08/2020 10:55

I like the bloke who has been Eastbourne's MP off and in for a few years. Name escapes me. Even my Tory friend who lives there admits he's worked unceasingly for his ungrateful constituents.

gardenbird48 · 25/08/2020 18:57

a rather fact free discourse. I wonder if either of them have ever looked at any relevant facts before making their policies. I noticed that they had a supportive comment from someone who shares a name with a certain former boxing promoter - not sure if I am allowed to name them on here.

TheFleegleHasLanded · 25/08/2020 19:03

Yes I saw that too gardenbird.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 25/08/2020 20:23

I asked ds1

He is voting for either of them and will be cancelling his membership as soon as he can be arsed

So hopefully by the time of the next election

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 25/08/2020 20:24

Neither...obvs Hmm
