Hi everyone, I've been trying to screenshot all of the celeb Mermaids endorsements before they are deleted but I'm sure there are some I've missed so I was wondering if you could help me out.

Here are the list of celebs and organisations I've screenshotted (I've got a lot more than this but I'm excluding the minor/random celebs and organisations):

Emma Watson
Munroe Bergdorf
Liberty
Princes Trust
Dr Rang Singh
Jade Thirlwall (Little Mix)
Lorraine Kelly
Aon
Barclays
DMW Group
John Barrowman
Jameela Jamil
Duncan James
Sam Smith
Owen Jones
Starbucks (hard for them to delete that one!)
Channel 4
Canadian High Commission

Have I missed any obvious big names? I don't seem to have Josie Long saved anywhere

Aw, during my search I saw a video by Fox and Owl about the NASTY Mumsnet comments on 'Mermaids'.
Confused

HandsOffMyRights · 13/08/2020 08:35

Oops, obvious slip, meant 'Butterfly'...

HandsOffMyRights · 13/08/2020 08:38

Somebody reposted the Josie Long tweet on Twitter, so it's been preserved in all its 'ally' glory....

HandsOffMyRights · 13/08/2020 08:41

Starbucks

HandsOffMyRights · 13/08/2020 08:45

Oh and the actress from Derry Girls. She was quite the vocal TRA with it too, I recall!

JingleCatJingle · 13/08/2020 08:58

Nicola Coughlan?

@JingleCatJingle

Nicola Coughlan?
Yes, thanks.

Also, The National Lottery. The Times did a big piece on this donation and I'm sure many of us have emails from The National Lottery, following the bucket loads of complaints they had.

HandsOffMyRights · 13/08/2020 10:04

The Second Shelf bookshop has also made donations to Mermaids.

AnotherLass · 13/08/2020 10:06

Wasn't Amnesty working with Mermaids?

HandsOffMyRights · 13/08/2020 10:07

@HandsOffMyRights

The Second Shelf bookshop has also made donations to Mermaids.
They had a fundraiser back in March, which is still promoted on their website.

Don’t know - but they are a whole new thread on their own really.

Can I just ring a wee bell for Kiera? She just needs a extra wee bit of work done on her ditch.

Conniethesensible · 13/08/2020 11:55

I'm really confused by all the hate Mermaids seems to get. Safeguarding children should be obviously scrutinised. But surely the National Lottery wouldn't be supportive and would not give them a grant without there being some serious concerns. They did an investigation into it below.

www.tnlcommunityfund.org.uk/news/press-releases/2019-02-19/outcome-of-review-of-proposed-mermaids-grant

By all means, it's your money, don't donate, that's your decision. But it seems this witch hunt seems a little overegged? Plus it seems to have picked up on twitter and they're getting more donations.

Justhadathought · 13/08/2020 11:58

Criticism and deep concern doesn't equate to 'hate'. That in itself is over-egged.

AnotherLass · 13/08/2020 12:04

If you want to start to even make a start on understanding what people have against Mermaids, this is what they are lobbying for:

data.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/committeeevidence.svc/evidencedocument/women-and-equalities-committee/health-and-social-care-and-lgbt-communities/written/91159.html

I'd say they warrant hate frankly.

Have your concerns... I think it's great that people scrutinise this charity - makes them more focused and helps them serve those it's intended to serve.

From what I've read away from all the hysteria, kids know what gender they are from a young age and yes it's a super small amount who are trans. But a safe space to not feel like a freak or an outcast must be really nice for them and their families.

From the people who use the service however, they seem to love it.

Creating a bank of tweets to be like "gotcha" seems obsessive. But hey, we all need a hobby I guess...

Probably jealous that they aren’t famous enough to make the list of ‘celebs’ 😂
PronounssheRa · 13/08/2020 12:14

Do they? Or do they look at mermaids regressive gender chart and the jelly baby nonsense, which leads children to believe there is something wrong with?

PronounssheRa · 13/08/2020 12:15

Wrong with them

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 13/08/2020 12:39

Vast swathes of the world doesn’t even understand what ‘Gender’ is, let alone know which of an infinite number of genders they personally are (I think you need a tumblr account for that).

If you mean children tend to know what sex they are by the age of three or four, then yes, that’s true. M or F, innie or outie.

Demigirl, transmasculine, non-binary, agender, genderfluid, trans feminine etc? Nope, no small child has any idea wtf that’s about until an adult projects it onto them.

AnotherLass · 13/08/2020 12:39

"From what I've read away from all the hysteria, kids know what gender they are from a young age"

What you've read does not include any actual scientific research then.

Every single study ever done (there were about 10) showed that 85% of dysphoric kids desisted by adulthood in the days before they were "affirmed". Clinicians said that it was impossible to predict which child would desist. And now there are has been a rise of many thousands of percent in kids presenting with dysphoria, with loads suddenly realising it as teenagers.

But "kids know what gender they are from a young age". Right.

SerenityNowwwww · 13/08/2020 12:43

Kids know what gender is - because they are told!

That’s a boys toy! Do you. It want a nice dolly!
Nah - you can’t have link - that’s for wee girls!
I’m not getting him a toy pram to play with!!!!!!

None of these indicate the sex of a child as far as I know.
