has had to lock down her Twitter account after being inundated with hate for saying women have cervix’s

The TRA are now spamming labour with complaints about her transphobia & demands she is sacked

I’m planning to email my support fir her copying in Keir Starmer

(And yes of course LOJ is involved!)

Rapinoe's retired now, so no longer has skin in the game, so to speak. But I still reckon she'd have sung a different tune if there had been a high profile trans midfielder who threatened her place. Or if the US women's team had found themselves competing against this team.

In case you're thinking "okay, Iran is crap at football, I quite fancy the US women's teams chances against them even if 8 or them have XY chromosomes, remember a few years back when a non-league team - I think it was Farnham - had a good FA cup run and went on a training camp to Spain as a reward from their coach, where they encountered the England women's team training for the world cup. They challenged them to a friendly, and won - and England women weren't bad - they had a top 8 finish in the world cup that year, I think. Or this (sorry, Sun link) from 2 years ago when a Salford youth academy boy's team beat the Manchester United women's team 9-0.

As with the excellent boys versus women athletics website, the gulf between men's and women's football is immense. It is not a gap in skill (though due to male socialisation being pretty much "football, football and more football" that is very large - and I say that as an ex woman player), but also a huge gap in physical strength, speed and acceleration. Rapinoe can hustle pretty much any woman player in the world off the ball in a direct shoulder-to-shoulder encounter; she'd be hustled off the ball herself in a similar encounter against pretty much any man in the top flight game.

It's a shame this summer's olympics had to be cancelled, as I think it would have been interesting.

Portnlemon · 02/08/2020 19:27

I think Jess has simply reiterated the nonsensical position that the shouters of transphobia at everything have put Labour in whereby they have to support both the shouters and acknowledge that women can think otherwise if they wish.

It's pathetic.

DianasLasso · 02/08/2020 19:29

Another one - Australian national women's team beaten 7-0 by under 15s boys' squad: www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3609949/Matildas-lose-7-0-Newcastle-Jets-15s-Rio-Olympics-warm-up.html

There's a reason we have single sex sports, with the emphasis on sex.

ListeningQuietly · 02/08/2020 19:30

I do wish the Olympics had happened
because the bubose would have popped

doublehalo · 02/08/2020 19:41

Honestly, it's so fucking stupid it defies description.

Well done Rosie Duffield.

SetYourselfOnFire · 02/08/2020 23:48

Rapinoe went out on top and kicked the ladder away for other women climbing after her. It's depressing as hell how many lesbians have betrayed other lesbians to placate trans (male, always male) wankery. I keep a list. This is why I don't trust anyone anymore.

Identity Politics
the best idea the right wing ever had
to make sure that the left wing would eat themselves
and fight like ferrets in a sack
rather than take on the enemy

Eurgh, I’m so bored of the left continually blaming the right for their own inadequacies and stupidity.
Own your shit.

Or if it genuinely is the doing of the evil masterminds of the right, quite frankly, I’d rather have the evil smart masterminds in charge, rather than the dumb as fuck idiots enthusiastically falling for it

Either way, the left don’t come out of it well, there’s just no excuse for what they’re doing

skql · 03/08/2020 06:11

left continually blaming the right for their own inadequacies and stupidity.

this. why blame right for that? left uses identity politics to shut down opposition.

As far as I'm concerned, the identity politics-toting left IS the real enemy.

On another note, got sent this by Glinner's site. Well said, Jane and Kristina.

Australian national women's team beaten 7-0 by under 15s boys' squad

The media like these stories but a few things should always be considered

Firstly it is a training match, it is not about the result but trying out different players and ways of plays.

Secondly, kids who do well enough to get in age group sides at any level are often there because they have gone through puberty quicker and can be much larger than average kids. It would not surprise me if most of an u15 side were much bigger and stronger than the women

Thirdly the women players often win these matches but that is not reported

I heard one of the Australian coaches say that although there are often daft stories about these games, both the boys and and the women enjoyed them immensely and had huge amount of respect for each other, that is the important thing.

meg70 · 03/08/2020 09:17

Who is LOJ please?

juliantwo · 03/08/2020 09:20

Owen Jones, chief misogynist at the Guardian

It probably looked like the win-win solution for her. She got the credit for playing as a woman (well, as a cervix-haver) without getting the truly frightening cancel-mob after her. Sometimes (but never seriously) I think this side would do better if we could be bigger online bullies and trolls.
meg70 · 03/08/2020 09:32

Thanks, I see but where does the "L" come in? Little?

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 03/08/2020 10:05

Little.

Portnlemon · 03/08/2020 10:10

He's also referred to as Sanctimonious Morph due to the striking resemblance.

Zanahoria I played football (both women's 11 a side and mixed sex 5 a side) for many years.

A few things spring to mind. One is that even though there's an immediate increase in strength in males at puberty, men don't (typically) reach full strength till their early twenties - that's why there's a men's under 21 world cup and European cup. So a team of 15 year old boys, though through puberty, are still slower and weaker than adult men. (This doesn't apply with women and girls, which is why my adult team was pretty evenly matched against schoolgirl teams - the last match I played in was a cup tie against a team largely made up of teenagers, and we were sufficiently evenly matched that it went to extra time).

Also 7-0 is a bloody massacre in footballing terms (I should know - my team was usually the one on the receiving end of that sort of score line). I think the coach is just trying to deflect criticism. Yes, perhaps you do get the occasional game where women win - but this was the women's national team, high in the international rankings, against a local under 15s team. There is no way you can spin 7-0 as an okay result because they were experimenting with different player line ups.

It's a bit like the fact that the Williams sisters would have to get down to about 350 in the men's rankings before they stood a chance. The physical difference is huge.

Anyway, this is a bit of a digression. Maybe we should start a football thread?

(I suspect football would be one of the first team sports to be hit in a big, visible way, simply because due to sheer numbers of boys playing football.)

NotBadConsidering · 03/08/2020 10:30

The “Little” could refer to so many things about Owen Jones.

He’s petty.

He often has little facts to back up his big opinions, or often deliberately distorts or lies: see tweet on weekend about suicide.

He has little respect for women.

It can be used as the standard adjective when describing someone like him. You know, like:

“You little shit!”

“You little prick!”

“You little Owen Jones!”

I think mainly it’s used to point out how childish he is:

“Awww, look at Little Owen, using his big words but getting scared by all the women!” Who’s a little misogynist? You are! Yes, you are!”

It’s like he isn’t capable of growing his opinions past those of an 17 year old school boy. Amazingly, he’s almost 36.

Owen should write another book 'Janet & John do Socialism'

andyoldlabour · 03/08/2020 11:02

Jess Phillips said in that article -
"“And I think the trans issue, more than anything else, deserves proper detailed debate and attention by policy makers who almost certainly should be changing the Gender Recognition Act – it is now outdated – without it becoming some sort of vitriolic war where the debate never seems to advance.”

She added: “Because of that, the rights of trans people have subsequently not advanced. So you’re right – we have all suffered a Twitter pile-on and it just is a sort of sad indictment of our politics that we can’t have reasonably political and policy debates.”

I would like to know what extra rights transpeople should have according to Jess Phillips.

BentBastard · 03/08/2020 11:05

She's right, it is outdated, it's no longer needed for the purposes for which it was enacted.

Kit19 · 03/08/2020 11:17

she's right it neds a proper debate - perhaps she could call in Jolyn Maugham to help with that Grin

in all seriousness though it does need a proper debate but if I remember rightly a certain extremely large well resourced LGBTQ+ charity just screamed #nodebate at everyone and so here we are

There was a public consultation which GI and Stonewall et al SPAMMED, despite them being at the table for Maria Millers enquiry and having their demands the basis of the consultation the first place. Trying to manipulate the results of a consultation this way was yet another indicator they have no interest in consensus building.

The new CEO of Stonewall has admitted they can't continue to force everyone to believe identity, because they actually can't. Continuing to shout at everyone that it is bigoted to not believe is out of step with what Stonewall are now saying.
