This is another non-apology. This is trying to appease both sides without actually saying anything.

Well yes, JP is saying the bare minimum. She obviously disagrees with Rosie on this point, as is her right, disappointing as that is, she thinks that TWAW. But she doesn't think that Rosie should be coming in for abuse on Twitter and she has said so. And she is open to debate on GRA reform, even though she apparently supports it.

Jess Phillips calls it " twitter noise". She ought to know the reason it has got so "noisy" on this issue is because there has been no truly open debate nor truly open public consultation.Twitter is a totally inadequate medium for political debate, but social media is merely reflecting the growth of awareness of this issue.

Oh no, I've rated JP - does she want the proposed reform of the Gender Recognition Act, or just some / a reform? I'm hoping it's the latter. I've never seen anything clear from her about her views but probably been looking in the wrong places.

Some of us have been looking for Jess Phillip's views on this for years so good luck with that.

You could argue that she's entitled to keep her opinons to herself but, as she normally prides herself on speaking up for women, I think we're equally entitled to view her silence with scepticism. I believe she also contributed to the all party committee that recommended self ID, in which case she's hardly an innocent bystander.

@Floisme I had considered emailing to ask her directly after I read her book... but something stopped me. I thought I'd just keep an eye out and frequently Google instead. Maybe part of me didn't want yet another person who seemed politically ok to be a big disappointment.

I listened to that JP interview on Times radio earlier - was with Gloria de Piero - and though she was pretty evasive. Think GdP asked her about self-ID and she just waffled about the process needs reforming - mentioning the whole ‘living in role’ being deeply sexist (“what does that mean? You wear skirts and bake?”) and I said out loud to the radio YES JESS IT IS DEEPLY SEXIST....THE WHOLE CONCEPT OF GENDER IS DEEPLY SEXIST!!!
Feels like she’s so near yet so far.

JP is not just cheerleading the TWAW propaganda, she's also condoning the erasure of our rights via her unwavering support for Labour's determination to abolish the sex-based exemptions in the Equality Act (while claiming to uphold them).

And she is also one of the women claiming that including males in a female-only therapeutic environment for female victims of male violence causes zero problems. Another politician who has provesn unwilling to listen to any of those victims trying to tell her otherwise. Or frontline workers in the sector. Because she once was regional business manager for such a service. And so she knows best.

Jess Phillips wants to get rid of the spousal exit clause (she doesn't even know what it means) and the proof of 'living in role' requirement which, correct me if I'm wrong, just means sending in documents (e.g. utility bills) with the new name and 'gender'.
If individual doctors insist on skirts and womanly hobbies, the problem is sexist doctors, not the GRA.

Ugh the amount of people who misunderstand (often on purpose I think) the 'spousal exit clause' is ridiculous.

It would be hugely unfair IMO, to get rid of it. Cannot just randomly change the terms of marriage like that and expect the partner to be fine with it! Also the partner cannot impede transition anyway, its only about the marriage.
