has had to lock down her Twitter account after being inundated with hate for saying women have cervix’s

The TRA are now spamming labour with complaints about her transphobia & demands she is sacked

I’m planning to email my support fir her copying in Keir Starmer

(And yes of course LOJ is involved!)

So many raging at hr on her timeline. Particularly men.

I saw one man saying "I'm her constituent, and I have a right to see her twitter"

No mate! She's you're MP, you don't own her. She has every right to go private for a short time in the face of relentless abuse. Contact her in the usual way if you want to know her views on a parliamentary matter.

For a survivor of domestic abuse to be subjected to this is worse.

And do you know what? She's parroted "TWAW" along with the best of Labour women MPs - it's still not enough. It's never enough.

BatShite · 01/08/2020 18:25

Some men have a cervix = transmen have a cervix

Such a silly line of argument really. As..well, we all know transmen are female, even if they like to be called 'men'. So it really really is not the gotchya that they seem to think it is, at all. And more and more seem to be pointing this out recently. Definitely times are a changin'

BatShite · 01/08/2020 18:27

I saw one man saying "I'm her constituent, and I have a right to see her twitter"

Ah so shes in the wrong for locking down her twitter to try and stem the abuse she is recieving somewhat? Maybe they should stop with the rape threats and such, and then ma\ybe she wouldn't have to lock her account?! Just a thought.

We must be able to abuse you, and you are wrong if you do anything to try and stop this.

Lovely.

Labour LGBT statement:

labour-trans.org/news/lctr-statement-on-the-comments-of-rosie-duffield-mp/

lionheart · 01/08/2020 18:29

'We expect the party whips to take this forward, and the Labour Complaints Team to take forward the numerous complaints we know of already. However, transphobia in our party will not be pushed out by disciplinary procedures alone. We need education and engagement to build understanding and solidarity towards trans people at every level of the party; including MPs, the leadership, party staff, and ordinary CLP members. To this end we reiterate our desire to engage with the party and its leadership to discuss how Labour can address the rising tide of transphobia and build a party that genuinely supports trans people.'

CeciledeVolanges · 01/08/2020 18:29

@Iamhangingin I’m so sorry to hear that. The obesity drive is so misconceived, isn’t it, and so potentially harmful. I often find myself at a loss to understand the state of the world as well!

I believe Diane Abbott is mixed up in it somehow by now, although that may just be because people love being horrible to Diane Abbott.

@Datun it does seem to have achieved new heights of being ridiculous, but I don’t think it has jumped the shark yet, simply because you do have to stop and think for about two seconds before the ridiculousness becomes clear. It’s much easier to be viewed as nice, kind and inclusive by making changes in language, or accepting them, because you think it doesn’t affect you. If you don’t think about it at all, it’s quite easy to accept something like “a woman is whoever says they are a woman” and much harder to stop and think to yourself, but wait, that still doesn’t define woman! Especially when doing that will make you liable to be called transphobic and be blocked/bullied/excluded.

Portnlemon · 01/08/2020 18:31

How many transmen are there? Two thousand? Furious people demanding sackings over a word because of two thousand females with dysphoria.

It's insanity.

Dw777 · 01/08/2020 18:31

Won’t twitter just delete her account now? It’s against twitter terms of service to misgender people. There is an alternative called parler she could use?

truthisarevolutionaryact · 01/08/2020 18:32

That Labour LGBT statement will of course be left wing gay men policing women - as usual.

ListeningQuietly · 01/08/2020 18:38

Is pointing out that Transwomen are at risk of prostate cancer
and Transmen at risk of cervical cancer
part of that rising tide ?

KarenKarendson · 01/08/2020 18:39

Well done Rosie. We need more people to stand up and tell the truth.

Nuffaluff · 01/08/2020 18:43

And do you know what? She's parroted "TWAW" along with the best of Labour women MPs - it's still not enough. It's never enough.
Oh, has she?
Well in that case she will probably apologise with an ‘I will educate myself’ thrown in.

roarfeckingroarr · 01/08/2020 18:44

I've just emailed in support, copying in Keir Starmer and my nightmare kool aid loving, Corbynite Labour MP Marsha de Cordova.

Xanthangum · 01/08/2020 18:52

Frome Trans Labour's statement: We need education

Yes you do dear.

Collidascope · 01/08/2020 18:54

"Inclusive language harms nobody and costs little; it is a simple act of support for trans people in a political culture that is increasingly hostile towards us."

The dishonesty of this movement is appalling. "Please lie because a tiny minority of us can't cope with reality."

NeedToKnow101 · 01/08/2020 18:55

I've emailed Rosie, Kier and my local MP. I've said how discriminatory it is against women with EAL, learning difficulties and low literacy.
I'm so fucking pissed off. Why are we having to waste all our time and energy on this war?

BentBastard · 01/08/2020 18:56

@Violetparis

Rosie Duffield is a Labour MP. Have any other Labour MPs showed any support for her ?

Yes, I saw one, a man, but can't remember his name now. Will see if I can find it.

BentBastard · 01/08/2020 19:02

Can't find it now. Perhaps he deleted. There's a screenshot now of RD calling her constituents "shitty" (don't knowing real or not) which won't help at all.

HDDD · 01/08/2020 19:03

"Peace and socialism" except when it comes to women eh Sarah? twitter.com/Sarah_Cundy/status/1289292013532192769

Floisme · 01/08/2020 19:04

Thanks for the link to the Labour LGTB statement.
Over to you, Keir. I'll wait.

Xanthangum · 01/08/2020 19:06

Its fake? What?

BentBastard · 01/08/2020 19:07

@Xanthangum

Its fake? What?

That might be the one I referred to above calling her constituents shorty

Datun · 01/08/2020 19:08

I have to ask again, how do you know? How do you know if you are a person with a cervix?

It can't be if you have a vagina. We know, beyond doubt, that many people born male have a vagina now.

So what is the criteria???

Clymene · 01/08/2020 19:09

Millions of women are missed from cervical screening because of fear, being from a BAME community or lack of education. That's women are being actively harmed by pandering (and it is pandering) to a tiny subset of women who would prefer to be male. Given these transmen have lengthy conversations with their HCPs bout their primary and secondary sex characteristics, I think it's very unlikely they are unaware.

Let's be honest - this is nothing to do with excluding transmen from and everything to do with ensuring the word women doesn't exclude men.

wellbehavedwomen · 01/08/2020 19:12

@CeciledeVolanges

I have lurked silently here for quite a while, but this is really upsetting and I finally want to join this conversation.

Rosie Duffield is a survivor of domestic abuse and got emotional abuse added to the definition in the Domestic Abuse Bill (which I’m also working on behind the scenes). Her speech was really brave and upsetting to hear. I can’t really articulate my thoughts right now but she has been through the same thing I have - real violence with words over a sustained period of time, which slowly erodes your sense of self, reality and truth. Seeing people allege that trans people are going to be harmed, that Rosie Duffield is attacking people, or that people are being damaged just by the statement “only women have cervices” is upsetting me more than I can say, and I don’t really know why, except that it’s like a continuation of abuse and gaslighting by the very people who are claiming to be hurt. If trans men wink out of existence as a result of the statement of a simple biological fact, god knows what any kind of actual abuse or hatred would do.

No other point of view is treated like that. People are allowed to argue for and against abortion and around racism, antisemitism, all sorts of things - nobody promised to fire Christopher Chope into space or called him a dumb b*tch for thwarting the upskirting legislation, both of which I’ve seen about Rosie Duffield. It terrifies me.

One final thing - as a result of growing up around DV and with EA I have had an eating disorder for a long while. It’s mostly at bay now but I feel constantly like I’m wearing a fat suit, I want to rip my skin off, I’m hideous, I take up too much space and so on. It’s dreadful, and relentless, and my body feels very wrong. I’ve never got to the top of an NHS waiting list, by the way. And it is difficult to deal with people who comment negatively on my weight, or people lauding weight loss generally, or anything “triggering” but I can and do deal with them. But I can’t imagine what it would be like to have it validated that I am in the wrong body, or to decide to ban anyone from saying I’m anything but skeletal, I just can’t imagine that ever happening. And the reason I overreact to comments about my weight is BECAUSE I’m ill, because there is something wrong in my brain.

Sorry that was long, and thanks everyone here who has had to be brave and speak out, or endure abuse about this.

Firstly, thank you for your work on the Domestic Abuse Bill. Sadly, you aren't at all alone in your experiences, as you know. The shadow of male violence (actual violence, not the opposite sex saying things you don't want to hear) looms over a lot of women's lives.

Thank you, too, for such a thoughtful and considered post. You aren't at all alone. Most of us are still in shock that this is the reality for women in 2020. Most of us assumed all was well for a long time, as this geared up; that this was just a modern civil rights movement we didn't quite understand, but that overall, it was progress for humanity. And then one day you stumble across something you can't ignore, and then you start to pay attention, and then the whole edifice collapses and you realise what it really is about. Not rights for one group, but the bullying and forcing of women's rights into a place where they cease to have any real meaning. Trans rights is just a Trojan horse. I can't help but suspect that a lot of MPs of all stripes know it, but are too terrified to say anything. Which is exactly why hatefuelled pile-ons such as this are happening - to ensure nobody else speaks up. Bystanders are intended to be too intimidated to speak out. That's the aim. To police ideas, never mind speech, and ensure that only the interests of people born male are given weight.

It's really sad, isn't it, that this naked abuse and then constant DARVO is simply allowed to happen and most senior figures are just too frightened to speak out. And the rage and hatred aimed at any women who don't eagerly cheerlead... I'm sorry, but anyone who doesn't recognise this as terrifyingly emboldened misogyny really can't be paying attention.
