Why don’t the men wear Speedo’s?

I was watching Breakfast news this morning and the English Commanwealth men’s and women’s teams for beach volleyball were demonstrating their game, it really struck me how different the team kit was between the sexes, the men had on long vest tops and knee length shorts, the women were wearing crop tops and tiny briefs which whilst playing became a thong. I have no issue with the women wearing the sports bikini but why don’t the men wear Speedo’s? Why are women’s (beautiful) bodies exposed but the men’s (beautiful) bodies are covered up? It irrationally irritated me this morning! I’ve posted similar pictures to what they were wearing for a visual aid!

@TeiTetua

It is common and expected in our society for women to wear a lot less clothing than men.
Just look at winter clothing!

I live in a very cold area and all of the 'fashionable' sweaters marketed to women have some major V neck feature where the chest area is at least partially exposed! It's frustratingly impractical.

I keep sticking with fleeces made by outdoor companies and the glamorous world of fashion can bite me. I do feel sorry for younger women and girls, however, because peer pressure can be a real pain when you're that age.

And don't get me started on pockets. My male family members always carry my s* around in their pants.

The men should wear speedos. They will just have to find ways of containing bollocks in skimpy outfits in the same way women have to deal with avoiding boobs falling out and exposing nipples, labia appearing from tiny thongs etc.

Melroses · 04/10/2020 16:06

toupee tape.

Mariola321 · 04/10/2020 16:07

Don't want to see budgy smugglers. 🤢😂

Or, the women could wear other options afforded them as a previous poster pointed out and the men stick with what they already have.
ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 04/10/2020 16:51

Who buys / decides what the players wear?
How available and affordable are the non skimpy versions?
Since ALL players must wear the same ,what happens if a player wants the non skimpy version?

Basically "choice" is being bandied around again.. but how much of a choice is there to be had in reality?

Just like there is unlimited choice for women's workwear. Some companies still demand heels or dresses/skirts.

TastelessBracelets · 04/10/2020 16:55

It's like the difference in Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman outfit in the female-directed WW film where she is far more covered up - and appropriately dressed for what she's doing - than in the other, male-directed, DC films she's in where she's in barely more than a bikini.

True. There were so many more low level/upskirt/panty shots in Justice League. You could just tell it was men in charge.

Is it? I regularly see men and boys walking around just wearing shorts in the summer, never seen a woman dressed like that.
FWRLurker · 04/10/2020 17:50

I think it’s reasonable that men’s shorts should have slightly more minimum level of coverage than women, men’s genitalia require it because it’s external.

However I agree there’s absolutely no reason the men should be required to wear Baggy shirts if the women aren’t

BalloonSlayer · 04/10/2020 17:56

I am never quite sure why male divers wear such teensy weensy trunks. The women on the other hand wear quite functional swimsuits.

"When it comes to volleyball, the rules require a like-colored uniform bottom, with a choice of shorts, spandex, skorts or skirts. The rule doesn't require all team members wear the same uniform bottoms. Five players could wear spandex/compression shorts and a sixth player could wear a loose-fitting short"
ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 04/10/2020 18:59

Sure. "Choice"

No it isn't common and goodness only knows how that poster is unable to find any cosy jumpers or cardigans. It just sounds like whinging for the sake of whinging.

The reality is women have far more choice than men for clothing suitable for the temperature.

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 04/10/2020 19:11

But even the updated guidance states that athletes on the same team must wear identical uniform(style, fabric and colour).

I see men wearing shorts in the winter!
I don't agree that women wear less clothes than men. I think heterosexual women wear more boddy hugging clothes than heterosexual men though.
At least before menopause, men tend to feel the cold less than women and I see young men in particular in very light clothing all year round. That's separate from the pressue on women to look sexy.

Where I live there are PLENTY of options for jumpers that cover the neck.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/10/2020 19:21

"In office.though I used wear light dress and sandals while feel bad for the men in suit."

It would be a VERY strict office that insited on jacket and tie in the summer for men. Where did you work?
If somehwere has a VERY formal dress code, I can't see how sandals would be allowed either.

boatyardblues · 04/10/2020 19:34

Though here in France many municipal swimming pools don’t allow swimming shorts for hygiene reasons, so Speedo style trunks are a much more common sight, on all ages and body types.

When DS1’s year went to France we had to buy him Speedos as a trip to a waterpark was planned. DS1 was appalled at how small they were, but tolerated them so he could go to the waterpark. DS2 is much more body conscious. His year group stayed in the UK the year he was eligible for the trip, but I suspect he would have rather sat the swimming out than had to wear Speedos.

They can wear different to their team mates. It has to be matching team colours but they can be covered head to toe if they wish to.

This time the updated 2019 guidance. I already made myself look like a fool once.Grin

Why don’t the men wear Speedo’s?
ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 04/10/2020 20:32

Also I don't buy the argument that they're so much better performance wise. Why don't the men wear similar then? Do they simply not care about their performance just as much?

SimonJT · 04/10/2020 20:44

Surely volleyball performance isn’t changed by the clothing you wear (unless its something outrageous), where as swimming performance for example would be impacted, thats why swimmers tend to wear almost full cover swim suits. If female players needed to reduce drag etc they would be wearing full body suits.

Beach rugby is played in speedos, charity matches are also sometimes played in speedos. Theres even a mini league set up by noodlebagz. Rugby players tend to wear speedos as their base layer as they’re so secure and hard to pull down, so any sports person say “my balls etc will fall out” are talking shit.

Why don’t the men wear Speedo’s?
Akire · 04/10/2020 20:51

This annoys me allthe time. Especially tv shows where the men are dressed in trousers shirt jumper and jacket for everyday wear and the women is wearing tiny skirt and vest top no coat. I’m sure writers think women live in different micro climates.

In some sports you must have to wax your bikini line to an inch of its life every week but can’t see why volleyball would
Have to be one of them.
