No, it's not your posts or anyone's posts here that I am bothered by - it was the tweet itself, the one that talked about 'our move' and 'our side', etc., There's something about the language there that bothers me.

highame · 26/07/2020 11:37

Understood 👍

UncleShady · 26/07/2020 11:37

I saw the cowboy thing and immediately thought of the Baroness and now can't get the image out of my head Grin

CarnivorousYoni · 26/07/2020 11:38

lol.

yeah, the people involved are definitely viewing it as a big game and not treating it very seriously. Uh-huh.

Humour and fun is one of the strengths of the feminists who post here. It's also one of the things that most gets up the nose of the witless TRAs. Frankly, it protects my mental health to enjoy light hearted fun because if I were trying to stand against this horrible ideology with no light relief, I think I would be sobbing all the time.

highame · 26/07/2020 11:39

@MoreJammyDodgersPlease

Wouldn't go down well now though. Native American costume wearer has done a bit of culture capture...who'd a thought

Not too many actual cowboys in Falkirk either!

ItsLateHumpty · 26/07/2020 11:53

Indeed CarnivorousYoni

Humour in some cases is just another way of conveying criticism about injustices, arrogance, or hypocrisy that we can’t really express fully on FWR because rules, or on most other SM platforms as we are not really heard.

Gallows humor is an expression of resilience and hope that helps us cope and bonds us. As the put upon we have only a few tools try and combat an oppressive regime, and our humour can be used as a sort of secret weapon.

Our masters and monitors certainly don’t like it when we find our funny.

Oh, and I also learnt lots from this thread today so all good to waiting.

Agree. And of course there are 'sides', when you consider what some of the people of Fair Cop have been through. You need a bit of fighting talk and righteous anger.
Here's to you, FC Brew

Aw that's fabulous. Quite made my morning.

SophocIestheFox · 26/07/2020 12:34

Loving the cowboys!

“I thought they were nutters” 🤣

Thank you. This is not a game. For any of us. But if you don't like the way people talk or if they engage in humour - that's fine. You don't have to. But think carefully about what you are criticising and why. The whole point of all of this is surely to protect our rights to speak about important things in the way we wish.
ScrimpshawTheSecond · 26/07/2020 12:43

I knew a cowboy from Paisley. Older gent. Took it all deadly seriously. Grand old opry every weekend with his hat and pistols. The stetson always looked a bit oversized, but he was happy.

Grumblyberries · 26/07/2020 12:48

Of course. I won't argue with you; this is not my forum. It was an brief opinion on the language of the tweet, nothing more.

MoreJammyDodgersPlease · 26/07/2020 13:08

There's an hour long program about the Falkirk Cowboys which was on the BBC a few months back. They got back together and had a screening of the films. Great stuff.
I'm looking forward to whatever Fair Cop have to say, but I have enjoyed all the other stuff on this thread (and learned a lot) in the meantime.

NotAGirl · 26/07/2020 13:13

I've really enjoyed this thread (except for the seals Sad) the creativity humour and random chat on threads like this make MN for me

Looking forward to learning about whatever it is FC are excited about when the time is right in the mean time I'll get on with my day

TedsFederationRep · 26/07/2020 13:30

As much as anything, isn't this also about timing? Whatever-it-is needs to reach the widest audience possible for maximum impact. This weekend, the focus seems to be wholly on Harry and Meghan and Finding Freedom. In a day or two, and especially with Parliament in recess, there could be a useful lull in the news.

I don't mind at all waiting a little longer (I still have some fingernails left...just) if it results in grabbing all the headlines.

SoftlySoftly123 · 26/07/2020 13:35

I can't find Posie saying anything along the lines referenced above - can anyone enlighten me?

picklemewalnuts · 26/07/2020 13:38

The language of games comes from strategy, not fun.
There is a strategic campaign going on, and people must consider the effectiveness of any action very carefully. I'm a supporter, an onlooker, with my own little campaigns happening round the edges on a very small scale. Others have major campaigns underway, some of them very expensive. When actors come together, each campaign needs to check its strategy, that's all.

Do you recall the ghastly things that were revealed about dolphins in a particularly classic thread?

I am angry and sick and tired of how dolphins try and make out they are nice and friendly and cute when they are anything but. They are one of the most aggressive species in the animal kingdom, regularly involved in GANG RAPES of other dolphins that sometimes goes on for days, they also kill their OWN children so that the mother pays more attention to her husband dolphin so he can have sex with her without her being distracted by her child and they also are aggressive to humans when nobody is looking (I.e in the sea when nobody is around, not when they have an audience like at a sea world centre) But everyone says “aww dolphins are so cute and so friendly” but their not.

BiologyNotBigotry · 26/07/2020 13:43

Does anyone know how linked the Sunday Times & weekday Times are? Hypothetically, if there were something that they'd planned to include today that got pushed back, would it wait until next Sunday or might it be used midweek instead?

I know nothing about how newspapers work, or if any of this has got anything to do with an article, I'm just curious.

FannyCann · 26/07/2020 13:58

I loved that dolphin thread. Unique to Mumsnet, I can't imagine finding it anywhere else.
I don't want to derail into a discussion about a person who is occupying too much of the news at present but it does perhaps offer an explanation why a person from another country may find it hard to settle in the UK, what with our incomprehensible sense of humour. Grin

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/07/2020 14:12

You know we will get to 1000 posts before we find out such is the power of random fwr.

What haven't we covered yet? Are we allowed to discuss recipes when it's just waiting for news, and not a specific detail tactic?

Or is that a derail? Can you derail a thread that is still waiting for it's rail?

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/07/2020 14:13

This thread is pan rail.

highame · 26/07/2020 14:51

I wonder if our long waited for news wont be in the papers at all. It might be written on a banner up in the skies.

Nobody's been to stop us speculating so I assume we haven't gone too far over the top, though some of the messages have been a tad tangy😁

RoyalCorgi · 26/07/2020 14:55

It does sound from the hints as if it might be a legal action against Stonewall. Which should be interesting. I love a good legal case.
