Share widely!! JKR is slowly getting the apologies she deserves.

It would be great to share this as widely as possible.

I don't want to give them any more publicity. This is an arse covering PR exercise but glad they've apologised.

Clevererthanyou · 23/07/2020 07:38

I’m glad that the people from The Day are apologising for their vile comments, I hope other eejits follow suit.

Oxyiz · 23/07/2020 07:40

I've missed this one and don't know what they said, but its interesting to see an apology. Was a lawsuit on the way?

Why is it a pdf rather than a webpage?

DianasLasso · 23/07/2020 07:41

That's not a spontaneous apology, that was very carefully drafted by their lawyers (presumably after an absolutely blistering letter from JK's lawyers pointing out that she had a cast iron case for libel). Grin

StrangeLookingParasite · 23/07/2020 07:43

That's exactly what I think, Diana.

HandsOffMyRights · 23/07/2020 07:44

They bit off more than they could chew.
I bet it sticks in their craw to issue this.

RoyalCorgi · 23/07/2020 07:45

I've missed this one and don't know what they said

They had a ridiculous article on whether you could still like art created by people with offensive views. It mentioned Rowling along with Wagner and his "Fifth Symphony" (which suggests that whoever wrote it had a screw loose in more ways that one).

Hope Rowling's lawyers have been busy writing to other people posting lies about her.

Clymene · 23/07/2020 07:45

As they have deleted the page, you can read what they wrote here: Theday.co.uk www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3945012-Theday-co-uk

Cismyfatarse1 · 23/07/2020 07:46

Definitely not their choice but good to have it in writing.

Yes - drafted by lawyers. I absolutely love it. Makes them sound like absolute twats for whatever they printed in the first place.

She who cannot be cancelled ♥️♥️♥️♥️

Binterested · 23/07/2020 07:47

If I were the lawyers I would require them to circulate this to their customer base - all the kids who read the original piece should now read this and have a debate about truth and the media.

Clymene · 23/07/2020 07:48

Agreed binterested

HandsOffMyRights · 23/07/2020 07:52

@Binterested

Absolutely.

Even the apology is a link to the PDF, not a screenshot of the words. Still trying to worm out of ensuring children SEE the actual wording easily.

SerenityNowwwww · 23/07/2020 08:01

Thank goodness you started this - I was looking for the original thread!

Hope it cost them a LOT. Maybe they will do a little piece on how the media is corrupted and attempts to demonise some people. Maybe a bit on women’s rights and the gender wars?

Still - too little too late.

The Day apology - share!!!
nauticant · 23/07/2020 08:03

It's good to see JKR being tactical about this. With so many potential targets, she went after a children's newspaper which had deliberately set out to smear her reputation among children, and picked an egregious example of libel that would have been difficult to defend both before the court and before the public.

Chloemol · 23/07/2020 08:18

Good and hopefully JKs lawyers have sent out blistering letters to all the others. It’s time someone stood up to the bullies and made them realise people are allowed to disagree with them and not blindly follow what they say

Cismyfatarse1 · 23/07/2020 08:23

Do you think her lawyers will deal with PinkNews?

OP posts:
Clymene · 23/07/2020 08:31

Someone thoughtfully archived their libellous article: archive.is/w7pLC

ChattyLion · 23/07/2020 08:34

I missed the thread on this. Shock Holy shit. That shitstirring was written for an audience of kids?! What must their pitching meetings, their editorial meetings and processes be like? Misogynistic much?

Text of apology in full:

Apology
On 10 June 2020, we published an article entitled “Potterheads cancel Rowling after trans tweet”. We accept that our article implied that what JK Rowling had tweeted was objectionable and that she had attacked and harmed trans people. The article was critical of JK Rowling personally and suggested that our readers should boycott her work and shame her into changing her behaviour. Our intention was to provoke debate on a complex topic. We did not intend to suggest that JK Rowling was transphobic or that she should be boycotted. We accept that our comparisons of JK Rowling to people such as Picasso, who celebrated sexual violence, and Wagner, who was praised by the Nazis for his anti- Semitic and racist views, were clumsy, offensive and wrong. Debate about a complex issue where there is a range of legitimate views should have been handled with much more sensitivity and more obvious recognition of the difference between fact and opinion. We unreservedly apologise to JK Rowling for the offence caused, are happy to retract these false allegations and to set the record straight. We shall be making a financial contribution to a charity of JK Rowling’s choice.

highame · 23/07/2020 08:36

I suspect they're going to have to put up quite a bit of cash for that charity but it'll be cheaper than a court case.

HandsOffMyRights · 23/07/2020 08:41

@Cismyfatarse

Do you think her lawyers will deal with PinkNews?
Hopefully. Now that would be as sweet as a nut.
Whatsnewpussyhat · 23/07/2020 08:44

Weasels.

Penis news next then? Surely the sheer number of articles they wrote about her would be seen as targeted harassment as well as bullshit.

highame · 23/07/2020 08:45

Lucky for Pink News, their big donation (was it from Google?) will help cover legal costs😂

truthisarevolutionaryact · 23/07/2020 08:48

This is what has to happen isn't it? Threaten and follow through with court action for the threats, the slander and the outright lies. Hopefully JKR has the wherewithal to follow one of these disreputable, misogynistic organisations right through to court.

I don't think she needs to go to court. This is fantastic, she gets big, big, donations to children's charities and a really grovelling apology, which I assume her lawyers drafted, and it will make the news. A real slam dunk
