Share widely!! JKR is slowly getting the apologies she deserves.

It would be great to share this as widely as possible.

Plus everyone will be looking very closely at them - and the other things our children are exposed to.

ItsLateHumpty · 23/07/2020 09:13

Ummm

...our article implied that what JK Rowling had tweeted was objectionable and that she had attacked and harmed trans people. The article was critical of JK Rowling personally and suggested that our readers should boycott her work and shame her into changing her behaviour.

But also

... We did not intend to suggest that JK Rowling was transphobic or that she should be boycotted.…

Am I being dim? How can both statements be held as their truth simultaneously?

Binterested · 23/07/2020 09:16

They definitely did the latter but identify as having not done it.

CourtneyLurve · 23/07/2020 09:26

Oh boy, I was waiting for this. She's very clever about what legal moves she takes. I hope she's gone after some bigger targets, too.

queenofknives · 23/07/2020 09:27

Humpty yes, I wondered the same thing! It's like they are completely, utterly clueless and have absolutely no idea what they're doing...

I hope JK's lawyers are pulling out all the stops. So many lies have been told about her, and so much libel and slander. I hope she takes them all down.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 23/07/2020 09:42

If I had endless resources to throw at this I think there would be a little bit of me that would enjoy that.

I'd hire SHLs with a team of folk to trawl through the web and print media to find what was said about me (so I don't have to read it), and I'd set them loose writing withering letters politely pointing out the law and their breach. And, then I'd get them to pay money to Fair Play or any of the assorted funders for High Court Cases and make a great big scrapbook of the receipts.

And I would laugh and laugh and laugh.

crumpet · 23/07/2020 09:47

Definitely a lawyer’s hand in this. Good.

queenofknives · 23/07/2020 09:56

And I would laugh and laugh and laugh.

I hope that's exactly what's she's doing!

It’s a really glaring contradiction, isn’t it!

These people have no business at all having any input into young people’s minds. I would say this is not just dangerously irresponsible but actually evil. Without JKR’s threat to sue them, they would have got away with publishing this bigoted propaganda; how many times have they already made these forays into indoctrination of children? What is to stop them doing it again if their target is someone without the means to take them on like this, or is a set of beliefs rather than a person?

nauticant · 23/07/2020 10:19

I read the apology as negotiated wording between the two sides and, as a compromise, it's a bit bodged. JKR's lawyers could have pushed harder and taken it to the wire to get completely clear and consistent wording but a pragmatic and sensible approach is to decide they've made their point and leave it there.

cheeseismydownfall · 23/07/2020 11:09

That is heartening to see. Is this just the start, do you think? Has JKR been spending the last month holed up with her SHL planning a systematic take down of all the utter shit that has been peddled since this story first broke? God, I hope so.

Incidentally, my kids are a bit younger than the intended audience for The Day and we get First News and The Week Junior. I've scanned then every week for coverage of JKR/TRA issues but they seem to have taken a (well judged) editorial decision not to go anywhere near gender identity/trans rights, other than in a very general anti-discrimination message alongside racism etc which I am comfortable with.

stella47 · 23/07/2020 11:19

It contained gems such saying that JKR implied that people who have periods used to be called women. Bad JKR, implying such things!

Wonder if the 'not so golden' trio of Watson Grint and Radcliffe will do a U-turn at some point in the near future as they see they are not the trail blazing fighters for the oppressed that they are throwing themselves in to spotlight as?

PotholeParadise · 23/07/2020 12:58

Oh look Katy Montgomerie, who fistbumped a racist tweet from Garbage and ignored all the black tweeters telling Katie it was racist is there!

So Katie's word on what is transphobia is final, but black men and women's word on what is racism isnt't.

Fascinating.

You see... women have had too long being told that they must 'be nice', now patience has worn away and there is little that people like this or publications, shops, businesses etc can do that will rehabilitate them. They have just gone too far.

Whatever they do or say will be too little too late. But maybe that's just me - I hold a grudge. Can't help it - I have always been very slow to cross but once that point is reached, its just gone.

Hilarious to see the TRAs ranting about cancel culture when they're the main drivers of cancel culture themselves.

wellbehavedwomen · 23/07/2020 18:21

It's so fantastic to see a woman who can actually afford to lawyer up, and get the fuckers to stop telling lies about her.

That was a full-on, proper grovel.

I doubt that she could. PN are getting loads of funding from Google. And if that isn't enough to save them, Google's pockets are almost infinitely deep if it chooses to rescue them.
