Sorry if there's been a thread about this and I've missed it.

twitter.com/zeno001/status/1284958734612135936?s=20

Green Party currently having an election for Deputy Leader. Hustings over the weekend. Somebody asked 'What is a woman?' Here are the answers. Jawdropping.

However, good news! Andrea Carey Fuller, a candidate who was not at the hustings, has now clarified what she would have said - Adult Human Female. Flowers twitter.com/hullfair/status/1285193309959475200?s=20

It's a huge relief to find that at least one Green knows what a woman is but if she got elected she'd have her work cut out for her trying to change the internal culture in the Green Party. Good luck to her.

There are members hanging on in the green party by the skin of our teeth who absolutely know that the TWAW is bullshit. We have a choice either to stay and fight , or abandon the party and forget about climate change . We are trying, but the more people leave , the less likely we are to succeed, Andrea, the wonderful candidate who knows what a woman is , will face backlash over this no doubt , so if there are any members left on mums net, please vote in August . She could do with your support . (there are also other GC candidates standing in other roles).

Isca18 · 21/07/2020 04:50

We're working hard, but all help needed. I've even parked some issues to choose Shahrar Ali for Leader. With him & Andrea & a strong showing on the Executive it could turn.
All best.

Well good luck to the members hanging on in there but quite frankly the Green Party, along with the Guardian, is beginning to turn me into a climate sceptic.

I know I know.... but, every time I read this kind of shit I think, why do I believe a single word they tell me?

teawamutu · 21/07/2020 08:21

Good luck, Green Party members! If you manage to pick a leader and deputy who understands basic biology, I might have someone to vote for too.

BaronessBollyKnickers · 21/07/2020 08:30

It reminds me of the Saturday night Specials we have on here. None of these people dares to try and define this word.

teawamutu · 21/07/2020 08:31

What are Andrea and Shahrar's chances of winning, would you say? If any good I might actually join and vote.

DickKerrLadies · 21/07/2020 08:35

I thought this idea that saying things like 'women have periods/wombs/ovaries/etc.' means the same as 'you're only a woman if you have periods/wombs/ovaries/etc.' was just some ridiculous twitter thing.

But these are polticians that at least someone deems capable of being deputy leader of a political party (albeit one with 1 MP) - they surely have the comprehension skills to understand this very simple concept.

Tom Pashby
A ciswoman [sic] that can't give birth is no less of a woman and you can apply that to people who identify as women.

Who is actually saying that women who can't give birth are somehow less of a woman because of that? Seriously. The only people I've seen make that connection are TRAs.

And again, the idea that women with fertility problems are just like transwomen because they can't get pregnant either is beyond offensive and I wish I could be shocked that this is being said out loud like it's an opinion he should be proud of.

Justhadathought · 21/07/2020 09:35

Thanks, Justhada. I've been meaning to read Arendt. Would you recommend that one

I'm looking for my next book......and I came across those excerpts after searching. I'm increasingly interested in how totalitarianism takes hold....as so much of what we are witnessing at present is scarily reminiscent. I know politicians usually parrot party lines, but TWAW is a blatant and visible untruth, and everyone knows it.

I understand it is a major work, covering many aspects of society and humanity.......but I'm going to give it a go.

Winesalot · 21/07/2020 09:52

Who is actually saying that women who can't give birth are somehow less of a woman because of that? Seriously. The only people I've seen make that connection are TRAs.

Very true. Bergdorf mentioned it as something that GC feminists believe, like that wasn't projection from Bergdorf at all.... seriously dangerous misinformation being spread. Then they bring in abortion regret being higher than supposed transition regret. I have never seen a women use that as a comparator once they have grown up and understood the implications.

However, these activists are using it with impunity, usually because they have been fully socialised as males or because they are women who parrot misogynistic slogans without critical thinking.

Andrea Carey Fuller seems to be very clear in her support for women's safe spaces and the definition of women, so I wish her all the luck in the world. If she and Shahrar Ali are elected, it will cause the other parties to at least take note although they might not do anything.

Exactly.

This approach to 'rating' someone's womanhood is nothing new, it's garden variety sexism. These people believe that infertile women are somehow comparable to male transsexuals and cross dressers.

HandsOffMyRights · 21/07/2020 10:22

Good luck to those of you hanging on, but after the Challenor scandal and now this, I couldn't support them.

To state that being a woman is an "attitude" just to gain woke cookies is absolutely insane.

Is race an attitude also? Because if you apply this statement in that context, we can see just how ridiculous and insulting this is.

Kantastic · 21/07/2020 10:28

They're saying it. They're saying that women who can't give birth, women with PCOS, , women who don't menstruate any more, and black women(!!!) are the equivalent of transwomen.

If you don't believe TWAW - and let's face it, literally no one does, including the people who chant it religiously- then they're saying that women who don't conform to the TRA ideal of a woman - which seems to be Kinder, Kuchen, Kirche while done up like Barbie - are lesser women.

Kantastic · 21/07/2020 10:29

lesser women

I meant to write - not women at all.

GreenChris · 21/07/2020 10:57

As in all political parties, the gender-woo-woo fanatics targeted the leadership structures of the Green Party some years ago, but gender critical women are standing firm and with candidates like Andrea standing in next month's elections, there is now a chance to rescue the party. Anyone who joins before 31st July can vote: join.greenparty.org.uk

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/07/2020 11:43

Thanks @GreenChris. I just might hold my nose and do that.

GreenieFingers · 21/07/2020 13:30

This opportunity could be a really effective activist event that will make a huge difference to the GPEW and our internal conflicts to reinstate sanity and introduce a supportive atmosphere for women within the GPEW.

Currently, the leaders and their trans-activist-supporters are fighting against us having a Women's Policy, which is shockingly misogynistic. They allow any man who says he is a woman to use the women's toilets at conference and no dissent is allowed. To complain would result in disciplinary processes being commenced and nobody dares to complain no matter how much women hate this total disregard for our feelings and safeguarding.
We need this turned abound urgently and the only route is through voting the right people in and the woke misogynists out.

Lamahaha · 21/07/2020 13:47

What is a woman?
An attitude of feeling like a woman.
So:

GreenChris · 21/07/2020 13:58

It's very hard to say. The gender woo-woo crowd have previously been much better organised at mobilising a vote for their favoured candidates but last year GCs got organised and got good people elected to the executive body and we are organising again this year.

The reality is turn out in these elections is quite low - so it doesn't take that many votes to turn things around.

Michelleoftheresistance · 21/07/2020 14:21

An attitude of feeling like a woman.

Yes. All utter claptrap, this is a lie in plain sight that everyone knows is a lie.

You cannot 'feel like' something that is not held as an incontrovertible shared meaning. In this case, a biological female.

To feel like a woman means to feel like/have the attitude of (I mean wtaf?) a biological female. Everyone knows this. However you have to pretend that this isn't what you mean because then male people are confronted with the boundary of 'which involves sex being a reality and the criteria of truly BEING a biological female'. Which is apparently too upsetting to have to deal with.

Apparently it's NOT too upsetting, or barmy, to demand that everyone therefore joins in a massive game of pretence that 'feeling like/having the attitude of a woman' can happen in a world where no one knows what a fucking woman is. And it involves people being certain that upsetting and offending half the human race is a much better option than upsetting a very small percentage of males.

There is not enough fucking glue in the universe to get high enough to deal with this.

When joining online, you're asked what you consider to be the single most important issue. There's a menu - environment, health, etc but also a freetext box... Smile

FloralBunting · 21/07/2020 14:34

Party policy according to Shania Twain songs. The candidates can go with 'Man, I feel like a woman'.

I shall go with 'That don't impress me much'.

(Yes, I'm taking the piss, and I should be more constructive, as they have often been the party I most agreed with policy-wise. I might do the join and vote thing.)

teawamutu · 21/07/2020 14:47

I joined. Women's rights found its way into the box...

Great to have you on board @teawamutu!!! We will make a better team with you in it.

teawamutu · 21/07/2020 15:18

Thank you. Mind you, if they elect one of the TWAW puppet crowd I'm off again...
