From Penis News, but hopefully this link won't give them revenues:

The BBC would not remove Mermaids from that page just because of 'complaints'. They're used to getting complaints from all quarters, for any number of things. There must be a pretty bloody good reason to take that action.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/07/2020 19:48

BBC News journalist tweets it, not sure that counts.

Thanks Scrimpshaw

Gosh that’s good. I look forward to Ben Hunte’s thoughtful and neutral report on this story ....

"Where the BBC goes others follow, so would anticipate other news organisations following suite. Plus would anticipate a rethink in funding bodies such as Comic Relief and Children in Need. "

This. This is big. Cut off the money.

Datun · 27/07/2020 19:58

@Siablue

This is brilliant! I think that people are now realising that Mermaids are a controversial charity and they can defend this easily. Who would want their child to be treated by a doctor who had been struck off ?
Who indeed.

However convinced you may be, realising that they advocate for doctors who are suspended, will bring you to a shuddering halt.

CaveMum · 27/07/2020 19:59

Such a shame they’re on Twitter Strike 😂 They must be spontaneously combusting over at Mermaids HQ right now 😂😂😂

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/07/2020 20:08

I'm looking forward to Pink News.

PronounssheRa · 27/07/2020 20:15

There will I suspect at some point be a 'scandal' reported around mermaids.

Kids company but much much worse.

nepeta · 27/07/2020 20:27

Wasn't it the BBC which showed a video about a transgender boy called Leo? The one in which male and female people are depicted coming from an assembly line as pink and blue dolls, but some pink dolls have blue brains and some blue dolls have pink brains?

Seeing that was when I first realised that the trans ideology was deeply retrogressive and was going to be very bad for the rights of natal women.

Agree with this. They're not not usually bothered about being impartial. Must be more to it.
ThePurported · 27/07/2020 20:33

Yes, on CBBC.
With an appearance by Polly Carmichael from Tavistock.

FloralBunting · 27/07/2020 20:37

Warm, warm happy feels.

I'm trying to guess whether the Twitter strike thing will make them frustrated at not being able to immediately whack out a petulant whinge, or if any of them welcome the space to think up something with more class?

🤣😂🤣

I'm kidding, I'm kidding. Class? Pahahaha.

They will be showing "First Day" soon on CBBC

DialSquare · 27/07/2020 20:48

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

It appears from twitter that this move is permanent...

twitter.com/LilyLilyMaynard/status/1287804669750894593?s=19

1/ Breaking News! The BBC today emailed its BBC Pride Network to tell members that Mermaids will be permanently removed from its Action Line contacts ‘following audience complaints’

2/ “... against a backdrop of increasingly contested issues relating to trans issues and children. It is a complex area and the BBC needs to remain impartial when signposting audiences to organisations that can offer appropriate advice.”

I've been reading this twitter thread. Has anyone seen the clown from IT gif? Made me chuckle.

BBC Children in need has given a significant sum to mermaids

www.wakefieldexpress.co.uk/news/children-need-2018-these-are-wakefield-projects-supported-your-donations-213760

Interestingly I can no longer find a reference to this funding on the BBC CIN funding pages

boatyardblues · 27/07/2020 21:01

Are the BBC cleaning house before a big story drops? Has all the markings of an organisation running its metaphorical shredders hot.

It's all in the Mermaids accounts on the Charity Commission website.

beta.charitycommission.gov.uk/charity-details/?regId=1160575&subId=0

£43,000 in 2019, £70,000 in 2018, £12,000 in 2017

TedsFederationRep · 27/07/2020 21:16

I'm distraught.

OK, I'm not really GrinGrinGrin

That's what I was wondering.

OvaHere · 27/07/2020 21:31

I would be really interested to know the decision making behind this.

PronounssheRa · 27/07/2020 21:39

Ova

Me too. I doubt this is just because of audience complaints, we have seen on here the dismissive responses the BBC give to complaints. I suspect there is far more to it.
