Apologies if this has been mentioned. Wondering if anything significant has changed recently in the BBC structure I did a search and found this from June.
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/06/05/bbc-appoint-tim-davie-new-director-general-replace-lord-hall/
The BBC has promoted its commercial chief to the role of director-general, as the corporation faces up to a future with a reduced licence fee and growing competition from US rivals.
He takes up the role officially from September.
This stood out. He was the guy who mopped up after Saville.
Davie is considered a safe choice and one who has previously proven himself in a crisis: in 2012 he stepped in as acting director-general when George Entwistle was forced to quit over the Jimmy Savile scandal.
A coincidence? Perhaps. Reading between the lines it sounds to me like he is being promoted to be a 'troubleshooter' for the BBC on a number of different fronts and getting ahead of issues is probably a small part of that.
His first press statement talks about impartiality and I think promotion of Mermaids and similar orgs crosses a line when you consider what the investigative journalists from Newsnight have been uncovering.
