From Penis News, but hopefully this link won't give them revenues:

Seems to good to be true. I think they'll be back on shortly. Hope I am wrong though.

So this was disconcerting when I just checked their website. It didn't do that last time:

Also, I notice they do text chat support, run by volunteers. You have to be 18 to be a volunteer. The services for "Y people" is up to age 20.

Looks like mermaids have thrown a heck of a lot of IT and general communications technology at the website over the last year.

Sorry, a bit off topic but the level of IT and avenues for voluntary input via communication, events etc is actually disconcerting to me.

I don't know if it can be linked to an upcoming scandal at Mermaids, if the page was changed on 29 June (I did check the Wayback Machine but couldn't work it out).

I did get this from the BBC today though. Points of interest to me:

  1. It took ages to get a reply
  2. They actually admitted making a correction, as opposed to the usual sniffy brush off IME.

I suspect it will be back with fulsome apology by morning. I can’t see the BBC taking science and safeguarding seriously yet,

I would go as far to say you can’t support trans people and their rights and support Mermaids.
I hope this is in response to the numerous complaints they have received.

Could it be linked to the rumoured changes to the gra?

I'm with YgritteSnow and Aesopfable.

The BBC are going to be as ahead of the curve on safeguarding over the gender identity ideology as they were on safeguarding over Savile.

Could be if the bbc are sort of a government limb...

Yes, I can't help but feel that this is not them seeing sense, but just some sort of administrative thing?

YESSSS! I'm so glad that the BBC actually took the complaints seriously. I just saw this news on Twitter and gave an imaginary football-style knee slide Grin.

Looks like mermaids have thrown a heck of a lot of IT and general communications technology at the website over the last year.

I assume they have had to, given the massive data leak last year. It's not as if they are short of money at present, they're swimming in the stuff with so many grants and gifts and fund raisers going they're way.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 10/07/2020 22:42

Seems most likely that they're checking things over and will re-update soon.

But I will enjoy the silence of the page, in the meantime.

Are there any reputable organisations to help people suffering dysphoria? I really do wish there were, seems like a lot of the current mess could have been avoided had there been proper support in the first place.

Probably entirely unconnected but re above post from NeurotrashWarrior I happened to notice a small ad in Private Eye and wondered if maybe someone is seeking redress against mermaids and their data leak?

I, too, expect to see it back soon, but I'm enjoying the air of panic in the TRAs.

Report
canigooutyet · 10/07/2020 22:59

Their last one was just over a year ago, wouldn't people have wanted to redress this earlier?

Private Eye could be a cv thing. A lot of people aren't happy about the google contract with nhs,

@Apileofballyhoo

No doubt there'll be a huge fuss.

I was curious about this sentence though.

It then linked to an NHS page about gender dysphoria – the medical term for the strong sense of discomfort many, but not all, trans people feel at the mismatch between the gender they were assigned at birth and their true gender.

If they don't feel a mismatch, why transition?

It's not saying 'not all' feel a mismatch, it's saying 'not all' have a strong sense of discomfort about it.

I expect they would have success if they sought out IT guys who align with their values and who would work evenings and weekends pro bono.

I heard from a reliable source that The Times is allegedly releasing a big story regarding a certain charity either this weekend or next.

No idea if it's true though.

Lets hope something is happening.
I will be so glad to see the back of this gross charity.
And some heads rolling too hopefully.
You can see from the tesco threads in aibu nobody can actually defend mermaids.
There is no argument for what they do, how can there be?
They need to go.

JY going down for a long stretch/Councils instructed to remove anything recommended by Stonewall from schools/Police revealed to have spent x million of trans lobby causes?

I do not think the first or the third of these would make any difference to whoever edits that BBC website! And possibly even the second one. I'm certain that the people behind all the agenda-pushing there KNOW they're dishonest, they know that people who notice what they are doing hate it, but they think if they just keep publishing lies and half-truths they'll eventually wear us down and we'll stop objecting. I doubt a bit of bad publicity for TRAs would stop them, nothing short of lawyers or sacking could stop them.

ooooh. somewhat inclined to believe this because see above. I hope if it's true that the corporate bods who kept giving them money pay a price.

But then... ALL the trans charities have been taken off that page. Are they all involved in the Times story?
