I’m too tired for this level of nonsense. I’m
Not a physicist but I don’t believe quantum physics works quite like this...

Because clownfish.

Equally rational.

The replies under the tweet are cheering me up though 😆😆

Because clownfish.

They don't' have gender, but they do change sex.

CaveMum · 03/07/2020 17:02

Oh god I hope Gia shows that to Prof Brian so that he can provide a mind blowing physics related answer 😂

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 03/07/2020 17:03

Oh, absolutely. Or, like, fixed constructs of GRAVITY or thermodynamics. So old-fashioned!

Physics doesn't have fucking 'sects'.

SEX is real. Sects are a human construct. Geezo.

Thank you for sharing this! I haven't read a more entertaining set of tweets in a while. Quantum crapdoodle indeed.

I think the pp's point is that we aren't clownfish, though? Some species have different reproductive arrangements, but we aren't a different species.

The stupid thing about this is that nobody thinks gay people can produce a baby without bringing in assistance from someone of the opposite sex. Nobody gazes around them and wonders who they need to hook up with, in order to become impregnated, worrying which of the 100 genders will have what it takes. Everyone knows it takes one man and one woman. That's all sex classes are - reproductive classes. Even in terms of gender identity, attacking sex is meaningless because their argument rests on innate gender ID! Then again, perhaps those pointing out that there's no evidence at all for that has moved them on to attacking sex. Either way: it has fuck all to do with Newtonian physics, and as he says himself, sometimes the results are aberrant in said Newtonian Physics, whereas nobody has ever had a baby without the two sexes combining gametes. Yes, some people have disorders, some people are less fertile. That is an exception proving the rule. Babies are made from a binary reproductive system in humans. That's just how it is. This is as batshit as homeopathy or vaccine denialism.

I'm so tired of this fatuous stupidity. I heard arguments like this at university, but nobody platformed them on Channel flipping Four.

Then again, the more we see things like this, the better off we are. People need to know what the hell is actually happening, and what is at stake for women.

We don’t believe in “fixed constructs of gender”. Gender is a load of rubbish, outdated, sexist stereotypes.
We believe in fixed constructs of sex.
Determined at conception, not randomly “assigned” at birth. And not changeable by cosmetic surgery, costume, make up, or performance of stereotypes.
That’s what we believe as scientists, doctors, feminists. Because we are rational, logical people.
Those who do believe in gender ideology have our sympathy - it is hard to live in denial of reality. But they cannot expect the rest of us to pretend to believe in it too.

Siablue · 03/07/2020 20:38

If you had gone to seton you too would have a superior knowledge of science. Or something like that. Hmm

Gronky · 03/07/2020 22:09

Quantum literally means discrete, it refers to particles existing in specific states; not necessarily binary but the opposite of a continuous spectrum.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 03/07/2020 23:17

What, you mean TRAs don't science good? Shocked, I am.

Melroses · 03/07/2020 23:24

I see where the phrase "defying gravity" comes from now.

LightenUpSummer · 03/07/2020 23:58

I'm all for breaking down fixed constructs of gender - if by that we all mean gender stereotypes. That's progress!

I'm imagining some dream world where that happens, and has the result of liberating women, rather than putting us at greater risk.

LightenUpSummer · 04/07/2020 00:11

If physics needs to be temporarily mangled to get us there, that's fine!

Can I just say how much I loathe the word 'gender'? My hope for the coming years is that it fades out of existence.

Bio sex, and sex stereotypes are adequate terms. Throw in temperament and personality traits, and there's nothing you can't discuss!

Gender identity is a pseudo religious term, like 'soul' and can stay in gender church.

So many replies to that thread saying sex is not binary “because intersex”.

They seem to be using DSD as evidence that you can be “born in the wrong body”- transgender is a DSD where somehow the wrong genitals develop in utero.

They have no clue how biology works, let alone particle physics.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/07/2020 00:49

That's why DSD was a better term than intersex. "Intersex" as a concept leads to the idea that sex is a spectrum. It isn't, it's a binary with a small number of cases where something went wrong during embryonic development.

TehBewilderness · 04/07/2020 00:49

Replacing sex with gender is like replacing modern medicine with prayers. Believing it yourself is foolish but demanding that others share your beliefs is inexcusable.

LaraAdamsMille1
I’ll say it one more time:

Defining “man” and “woman” anatomically doesn’t reduce women to their genitals. It reduces the DIFFERENCE BETWEEN men and women to their biology.
