Has anyone seen this? What do you think? sdp.org.uk/policies/transgender-and-biological-sex-based-rights/

Brilliant!

SophocIestheFox · 02/07/2020 12:02

I’m completely wrong footed by reading a sensible declaration on this topic from a political party Grin

2020 just keeps on surprising.

TheSingingKettle49 · 02/07/2020 12:04

Perfect 👌

Apollo440 · 02/07/2020 12:07

I didn't know the SDP still existed.

Libra · 02/07/2020 12:10

Well it might be a good way for them to stage a come back!

So refreshing to see a policy which has a balance of needs.

SittingAround1 · 02/07/2020 12:15

We support the use of plain English for discussions of biological sex in health and reproductive care.

I liked this at the end.
It all seems quite sensible and fair.

They don't mention public toilets, although presumably with no self id this is less of a problem.

Thingybob · 02/07/2020 12:50

I don't know when they reformed but a quick glance at their website shows lots of sensible policies. There's even a charter for academic freedom

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 02/07/2020 12:57

I also didn't know the SDP were still on the go. It's actually a (pleasant) shock to see a party put forward a common-sense line on this issue. The charter for academic freedom would be particularly welcome. As things currently stand, unless academics fancy being de-platformed, 'cancelled' or rendered jobless, there is currently none.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/07/2020 13:10

WTAF!!!!

That's real, isn't it? Not a spoof?

I need to have a look locally!

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 02/07/2020 13:13

Reading between the lines, might this mean that women are qualified to retain our status as women as opposed to becoming unpersons? Grin

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 02/07/2020 13:17

Oh, look, more right wing fundamentalism, is it? Or is it only women that get accused of that?

Ach, sorry, my sarcasm levels seem to be set too high today.

Good principles. Seem sensible.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/07/2020 13:18

???? Really?

Off to look locally!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/07/2020 13:18

Now what! Bloody post didn't show. Now it does??? Then again, that was good enough to say twice Smile

Soontobe60 · 02/07/2020 13:20

Excellent! Makes me want to cry.

AnyOldPrion · 02/07/2020 13:23

I joined last year in the hope that their policy would be good. Spoke to William Clouston who seemed very rational, but at that point they hadn’t committed to anything. Better renew my membership then.

TheTamingOfTheresa · 02/07/2020 13:28

Wow

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 02/07/2020 13:32

I could actually cry, which is ridiculous.

PetraDelphiki · 02/07/2020 13:36

Wow!!! Policies I could actually agree with!!!

WildishBambino · 02/07/2020 13:37

This is what the Lib Dems should have become.

Mind you, finding out the SDP are still around is like finding that triceratops is still alive.

TedsFederationRep · 02/07/2020 13:45

On the basis of their transgender and biological sex policy, their family, economy, defence, education, Brexit and animal welfare policies (some of the rest I'd have to just live with), I'd be delighted to vote SDP if a candidate became available in my area. It's the sensible middle ground I've been looking for.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/07/2020 13:53

I recon I'd have to stand as a candidate. Politics is a bit weird round here!

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 02/07/2020 13:55

@Apollo440

I didn't know the SDP still existed.
According to wikipedia it was dissolved in 1988 when it merged with the Lib Dems but a splinter 'continuing SDP' was formed. That later dissolved, so now the current SDP is the third party of the same name!
Rockluvvindad · 02/07/2020 14:01

During my period of gardening leave last year I stumbled across a video interview of Rod Liddle ( might have been triggernometry or New Culture Forum ) where he mentioned that the SDP had become his new political home. I was also pretty surprised that they were still going and when I looked into their manifesto I was very pleasantly surprised.

Like all parties, there will be stuff you agree with, and stuff you don't, but they really seem to be targeting the areas which mainstream parties are too cowardly to take a stand on.

I was hoping to vote for them in December, but no candidate in my area. Maybe a hope for the future !

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/07/2020 14:11

Interesting Phoenix stuff! I'll have to have a read round.. once all these reports get finished!
