Why r/GenderCritical was banned by Reddit

Hi! TRA here! Thought I'd take a quick breather from all the crowing, high-fiving, etc. to throw a lifeline to any actual open-minded critical thinkers wondering why Reddit banned r/gendercritical. Basically, you have 2 options when it comes to what to believe:

1. It's a true conspiracy: silicon valley, hollywood & the media are in the thrall of the well-funded TransAgenda, the need for woke points, child-groomers, women-haters, MRAs, etc. etc.

1. r/GenderCritical was hateful - if you want evidence then go to r/GenderCynical which existed to harvest said hatefulness. Read their strictly enforced rules about hate speech, misogyny, anti-feminism, pile-ons, doxxing, etc. (NB: abbreviating "trans exclusionary radical feminist" is not considered hate speech on this subreddit) and then sort their posts by "top" and "all time" and judge for yourself.

The trans men, trans women and non-binary people of Reddit do not hate women and do not tolerate abuse. Have a better day. x

I get TRA too as someone with an opinion on trans issues that usually goes against the majority on these threads - although I'm not trans, and never spoke about trans issues anywhere apart from on MN, never any kind of activism, nada.
Just average boring person with an opinion.
So I can see why you felt the need to say it, kind of a pre-empting, self deprecating humour way.

No, that doesn't follow - we've had trans people post on this board who have opinions who clearly aren't TRAs. Maybe you're not really, but if so it was pretty daft and provocative to introduce yourself as such. Don't blame people if they took that at face value and read your posts accordingly.

No it doesn't follow at all. I don't see much self-deprecating about taking a break from all the high fives about women having (yet another) online forum shut down and telling a female-dominated website that they have a choice of two ways to think either, but it's amazing how people can read the same thing in different ways.

Maybe MRA would have been more accurate? That's certainly the impression that your posts have conveyed.

The trick with humour is making sure it's something your audience finds funny, rather than just yourself, you know.
It's a mistake blokes often make when they accuse women of not having a sense of humour about their 'banter' - well, at least I think you managed to avoid doing that!

Please remember I've been coming here for a while.Anyway I've had some really interesting and thought-provoking discussions in between all the sniffers and wreckers so it's all good. At some point people will stop turning up and this topic will sink down the list and FWR will carry on without me making the place look untidy. I won't be bumping it.

ErrolTheDragon Oh I know you have a sense of humour. I've seen how you handle the late-night chaps who turn up to give you ladies a jolly good talking to, before the mods wake up and nuke the thread. I almost felt sorry for some of the spluttering fools as they slowly drowned in a sea of honey recipes.

It is disappointing to be drawn into giving attention to someone who will use any ruse, nastiness etc for that purpose and then try to dismiss the ruse, unpleasantness as humour or something else. I apologise for giving any attention to the OP.

It should be noted that there are some people who in this world prefer any sort of attention. Sadly these people are not taught that they are not the centre of the world. Kindness is not given on demand.

If I had a pound for every time someone male said something offensive and then as they realised they were not going to be given a free pass added the words "only joking!", I'd be able to afford all the repairs to my house and have a cleaner coming in every day.

Maybe MNHQ felt inclined to give some rope and see what developed - sometimes it's knots, sometimes is the metaphorical finish to that idiom.

MN felt inclined to censor women's posts, while leaving up the posts by this manipulative, gloating male. Must be nice to have male privilege.

So far as I am aware, my deleted post did not break any of the known rules. Did not call anyone a man, did not use the term T**, and most certainly did not use a slur.

Perhaps it wasn't 'in the spirit' whereas the OP's gloating, inappropriate 'joke' and general air of hard-done by is?

Thanks - I think. I may be a smart-arse but I'm not clever enough to be duplicitous. I'm more chaotic than strategic. I stand by what I've said, and do my best to be honest.. If that marks me out as selfish or self-absorbed or whatever then I'm fine with that. If you think I'm full of it then that's also ok. I don't hate anyone and wish nothing but the best for all of you.

Didn’t think I’d have much interest in this particular subject, having none in reddit, but I’m glad I actually rtft. For the most part I’m a free speech absolutist (perhaps my American heritage, though a UK resident), so whatever r/GenderCritical was like, I certainly can’t agree with it being shut down.

I’m kind of late to the trans discussion, but after a lot of reading, much of it on this board, I would place myself on the GC end of the spectrum. I believe trans women are trans women, and the more I see language being twisted, the more alarmed I become.

All that said, I find the OP lively, interesting, and best of all, funny. It’s just a shame that much of the latter goes whoosh…

How does anyone on here have any clue whether people are male or female?
Both men and women post on MN.
If a post breaks talk guidelines, is inciting, personal attacks, or transphobic or whatever, it'd get reported and it'd go if it broke the guidelines for
It's not a "I'm a woman, you're picking on women!" that's just such a strange way of looking at it.
As no-one would have a clue if you were a woman or not on an anonymous forum.
They'd just be going by the words they're seeing in front of them.

I've never said a joke about sexual assault is funny. If that's aimed at me.
I never even referenced that.
All I said was I can get self deprecating humour, that's kind of my style along with a side dose of sarcasm.
and the feeling of needing to pre-empt by saying TRA here before anyone else jumps in with the insults.
