What a wonderful woman JKR is.

I am also feeling glad that one of those 3000 emails was mine and so pleased that our support has helped and inspired her too. Flowers

Gingerkittykat · 28/06/2020 20:47

@JemimaShore

Stephen King has indeed retweeted her! I think he'd prove too big to cancel too....
I wonder if he will have people screaming at him that he is a bitch and a cunt and telling him to suck girldick?
Siablue · 28/06/2020 20:51

I have just sent Kier Starmer a howler! I have turned into the sort of person who sends strongly worded letters. 🤣

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 28/06/2020 20:57

She's fucking amazing. Ovaries of steel. What a woman.

If I had the level of F U money that JK has I would in no way be this classy. Probably better for society that shes rich rather than me.
Me too. Proper LOL at that.

KettlePolly · 28/06/2020 20:57

All I'm getting from a majority of the critical responses is a heady whiff of testosterone.

Oh my goddess

So many comments from men with beards ( my DH has a beard, I’m not beardist) just repeating that she is transphobic or that what she said was discriminatory. And rinse and repeat.

AbsintheFriends · 28/06/2020 21:09

There's a twitter account called Male Comedian Apologises that's definitely worth a look to raise a smile. Seems particularly on the nail today.

twitter.com/Comedian_Sorry

(Sample tweet: My heart goes out to the women I’ve hurt, and while my actions are in no way excusable, I believe an understanding of the full context is important: I wanted to do it and I thought I’d get away with it. Makes the weasely labour misogynist look like another parody account.)

CaveMum · 28/06/2020 21:40

Glad to be one of the 3,000 too!

EweSurname · 28/06/2020 21:48

This is encouraging, given he’s a labour peer

I’ve never been as attracted to my DH as when he lent over and whispered in my ear

“Ooooh JK Rowling is tweeting about feminism again.”

Divoc2020 · 28/06/2020 21:58

I get the impression that Keir Starmer's wife, Victoria, has quite an influence. She is Jewish, and I remember reading that they were raising their children in the Jewish faith. This may explain the crackdown on anti-semitism.

I think their children (boys and girl) are young - both pre-teens - so I would have thought that they'd be interested in the Stonewall influence in schools and safeguarding of young children through puberty etc.
They're probably all Harry Potter readers!

Wonder if she's a Mumsnet user? Perhaps they could invite her on?!

bellinisurge · 28/06/2020 22:04

JKR is fabulous for holding firm on this. I'm so impressed with her. And so ashamed of my own cowardice because I dare not say a thing in real life - public sector worker.
It needs more loud voices like this and less bandwagon jumping by nasty right wing gits.

I'd love to see Keir Starmer be less of a coward than I am. What with him being Leader of the Opposition.

NeurotrashWarrior · 28/06/2020 22:11

She's brilliant!

And ... I've just noticed the bbc managed to get it squeezed in under RLB.

They didn't have to. The bbc Shock!

Someone is making sure she's heard.

Rebecca Long-Bailey: Ed Miliband says Labour left-wingers are not facing 'purge' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53210764

FloralBunting · 28/06/2020 22:11

I have a Marvel T-shirt that says 'I love you 3000'. It's got another layer of meaning for me now.

Highperbolay · 28/06/2020 22:12

I'm proud to be one of the 3000 too!

Skaffen · 28/06/2020 22:13

Beards. Why is it always guys with beards? At first I thought it was just a coincidence, but the Twitter threads are wall to wall with beards. Scary.

FloralBunting · 28/06/2020 22:15

I saw this today. I mean, don't bother if you have anything worthwhile to do, your time is valuable, but the stream of lies and male arrogance here reminded me very much of the TRAs who visit us here, froth on Twitter, and bully women as elected representatives. If you fancy an exercise in picking out the tropes, fallacies and utter entitled bullshit, this one is good practice.

StandUpStraight · 28/06/2020 22:17

Neurotrash the bbc article says “Labour said it would be making no further comment about the issue.” If by “the issue” they mean the JK Rowling issue rather than the RLB issue (I think they do) that’s very disappointing. They need to address this or they’re sending a clear message to women that this is not the party for them.

CaveMum · 28/06/2020 22:19

I see that BBC article says Labour will not be commenting further, do they mean about RLB and her allies or about weasel face LRM? If the latter then they are seriously misjudging the mood of women right now.

I do like the fact that the Tweet from JKRs thread that has been singled out to show in the article is her quoting Andrea Dworkin. Maybe, just maybe, there’s a GC editor in the BBC after all...

CaveMum · 28/06/2020 22:20

X-post with StandUpStraight.

justanotherneighinparadise · 28/06/2020 22:23

Bloody hell the Labour peer tweet!!! 😮

This has suddenly got very interesting hasn’t it?

Packingsoapandwater · 28/06/2020 22:27

By these actions, JK is rising beyond being a author, admittedly of best selling books; she is now a voice that speaks truth to power.

There are very few people who ever do this in their lives. There are very few people who have both the guts and such an unshakeable sense of justice.

I no longer simply admire JK Rowling; I am now in awe.

She is incredible, a role model of the likes that I never thought I would see in my lifetime.
