The responses are eviscerating her. Grin

ShowOfHands · 18/06/2020 17:11

My DS has long hair and currently has painted nails. DD shaves her head and wears boys clothes. Presumably, I should have transed them both at some point? And when dd's best friend who is in the grips of an eating disorder next comes round, maybe instead of gently supporting her in her journey to accepting the only body she has, I should collude, affirm that she's fat, maybe crowdfund for a gastric bypass? What are we DOING?!

7Days · 18/06/2020 17:15

She's a comedian?
Well she is good at her job - I chuckled.

WhereAreWeNow · 18/06/2020 17:20

What a pile of shite. "You hurt my Luna". How is this child "your" Luna. He's the mate of your goddaughter. And how is he relevant to anything JK has said. He's a little boy who likes dressing up in pink and whatever. Who cares? Doesn't make him trans. Doesn't make him non-binary. Isn't that the whole point of what JK and many of us have been saying? People should wear what they want, express themselves how they want, just don't tell us that your clothes or make up or internal feelings make you a biological woman.

And of course Sara Pascoe is straight in there with the pat on the back.

I despair.

Helmetbymidnight · 18/06/2020 17:37

The poor thing - what an absolute thick doofus.

I thought comedians were usually smart?

I guess that explains why people think JKR is a bigot. They are absolutely unaware of what they are talking about.

Enderthedragon · 18/06/2020 17:39

Why does she refer to Luna as 'they' as well, just because he likes pink and dresses? He is a boy. Who likes pink and dresses.

This shit makes me so cross, why can't these people just accept that sometimes boys like pink and dresses, it doesn't make them a 'they' or a 'she'. She has also used the name 'Luna' which is hardly a 'gender neutral' name. But insists that absolutely nothing is being pushed on children like Luna and that children like him will totally be allowed to freely choose if they are a boy or a girl.

Bull. Fucking. Shit.

WokeEwok · 18/06/2020 17:41

I thought comedians were usually smart? I actually saw the tweet as it was retweeted by aisling bea, who I follow Hmm. Lots of female comedians desperate to hoover up the woke cookies...wonder why?

Luna and their real name 100 per cent do not exist Grin

DrDavidBanner · 18/06/2020 18:13

What the fuck have I just read? Ask your husband Bloody hell.

When my mum's hairdresser was a little boy he used to go to the nursery that my aunt worked at. He used to love wearing princess dresses and playing in the wendy house, basically very comfortable expressing his 'feminine' side. Hes grown into a happy, comfortable, expressive gay man, because that is what people can do when they are allowed to be themselves rather than conform to gender stereotypes.

This whole gender determinism (whatever you want to call it) would be funny and ridiculous if it weren't so dangerous to children who don't naturally conform to increasing rigid gender stereotypes.

How can people portray its as 'woke' and progressive when it is such a regressive and harmful ideology that puts undue extra pressure on children who already struggle to find their place in society. Can you tell how enraging this is to me?

Alltheprettyseahorses · 18/06/2020 18:27

That letter is ridiculous. Why can't Luna play with dolls and wear pink? If Luna does go on to identify as a girl, whatever that means because it certainly isn't synonymous with the aforementioned dolls and pink, why should Luna's potential wanting to use girls' facilities override the wants of the girls who the facilities are actually intended for? It ties into the suggestion that JKR check her thoughts with her husband in future: there is a power structure here with males clearly ranked well above females in status and authority. Luna is recognised as male despite the feminine representations, therefore Luna's wishes must always be given priority.

Seashell80 · 18/06/2020 18:46

WokeEwok I often wonder why too, do they not realise that they too will be erased with the rest of us if they keep supporting this ideology? Caught a bit of cats does countdown last night-the all female one, a rarity on panel shows who are not well known for their diversity. All of them going all girl power-and rightly so, however has it occurred to any of them especially Sara Pascoe and Aisling Bea ( who are featured regularly and seem to be super woke) that if TWAW then their places could just as easily be filled by a TW comedian and they won't be able to complain because of course that would be transphobic!
Sorry if this is a bit garbled, I find it makes sense in my head but not always written down 😆 I'm in awe of people who can articulate their opinions on this subject, I just get ranty !

DrDavidBanner · 18/06/2020 19:06

I'm in awe of people who can articulate their opinions on this subject, I just get ranty

Ha, me too!

FaintlyMacabre · 18/06/2020 19:55

The whole letter is ridiculous and says the exact opposite of what she thinks it says.
What I thought really telling about it was the choice of fake name for the child- not a typical male name or even a unisex name like Sam or Alex - she’s gone for a girl name for this Male child who ‘may’ turn out to be trans. And a Harry Potter name at that!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/06/2020 20:05

And what's with all the 'you hurt my Luna' - no you hurt Luna, Sarah, by planting the seed in his head that his love of pink means that there might be something 'wrong' with him that needs 'correcting'.

That would be "you hurt my nonexistent handy rhetorical virtue signalling device"

WeeBisom · 18/06/2020 20:19

She seems really confused. So I agree with her that gender is loaded with expectations that are toxic and damaging. Stereotypes are bad. If a little boy wants to dress in a tutu and play with dolls then good on him! He shouldn’t be punished or shamed for this. And she rightfully points out that toys for children are more gendered than ever. But then she turns round and says “ we are trying to allow people who do not fit these tight restraints to move into the space that fits them.” This is so frustrating. So she’s basically arguing that a little boy who likes pink and makeup should be allowed to move into the “girl space” because that’s what fits him. And because he likes pink that makes him a girl- or at least it puts him more in the girl box than the boy box. I’m sorry but this is regressive sexist bullshit. Why don’t we get rid of this idea once and for all that there’s a girl space and a boy space ? She rails against stereotypes and gender roles but doesn’t seem to realise that suggesting Luna is a girl because he likes my little pony is buying into these very stereotypes. Ffs - “Luna was born with biologically male genitalia and because of this everyone expected that Luna would like football, blue and tractors.” I mean ... that’s the problem right there. You made the sexist assumption that Luna would enjoy tractors and football! Why assume in advance what kids would like? Just give them a wide variety of things to play with (I’m a woman and when I was a kid I loved horses but I also loved dinosaurs, planes and my garage toy. I suppose that means I’m really non binary ).

TaraFee · 18/06/2020 20:39

I find it soooooper creepy that she’s trying to second guess the gender identity of a little boy who isn’t even related to her. Like, it’s regressive tosh either way but this isn’t even her own child. Though that’s good in that she won’t really be an influence over him. But to just be pondering it because he likes “girl” things is so weird. And she probably believes she is being progressive!

WhatTiggersDoBest · 18/06/2020 20:49

@GCGayDad that article you linked was very well put. How is it not the "Josh wears tutu, everyone tells him he is trans" brigade who are being accused of conversion therapy? They're the ones doing it!

MrsHardbroom · 18/06/2020 21:13

Imagine being so over-confident that you write a load of old drivel like that and think that your words could teach someone as ferociously intelligent and well-read as JKR a thing or two.

CourtneyLurve · 20/06/2020 16:15

A friend of mine is TV producer and has said she's struggling to develop new talent because many of the younger writers can't take critique. They immediately become defensive and try to deflect blame, instead of doing the hard work to get it to a professional level.

Can't imagine this nonsensical, ill-thought out tweet would inspire any future employers to hire her.

Fairenuff · 20/06/2020 17:18

Maybe this will help those people confused over 'girl' and 'boy' toys, colours, hairstyles, etc.

Where to start? Comedian to J.K.
hypernormal · 20/06/2020 17:24

I haven't had a fortunate life in many ways, but I'm really glad I grew up before the internet. Maybe I'm wrong, but I blame this lack of critical thinking skills on this kind of mindless passing on half-baked ideas as truth, rather than checking sources, doing more in-depth reading and not following theories and political movements as fashions.

SuckingDieselFella · 20/06/2020 17:26

She has a link for donations (to herself) on her twitter bio.

She's looking for a bit of publicity and money off JK's coat tails. We'd never have heard of her otherwise.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 20/06/2020 17:40

But I thought women were rubbish at comedy. So does that mean if you can tell a joke you must be a bloke?

I have no idea if Sarah K is good at comedy so am unable to assess their gender.

prolefeed · 20/06/2020 17:45

Goodness. My now 18yo son learned to walk in Barbie dress-up shoes, wore tutus and leotards and tights for years, and breastfed his dollies. A few people pondered along the way if he might be gay (!), but it’s the 21st century and no one wondered if he was actually a girl. Pretty sure J K would react like anyone else. Hi Luna. Yeah the dress up box is over there. Have fun.
Seriously hard of thinking. What a pile of utter wank. I feel a bit sorry for her not being able to grasp this. It’s unusual in a ‘comedian’ - they are usually pretty quick at recognising patterns and poking holes in nonsense. So shallow and thoughtless. Not even a glimmer in that shit show.
