It’s funny how not so long ago so many comedians were arguing that nothing was off limits for comedy and justifying male comics making rape jokes.

Sandybval · 20/06/2020 17:47

So she is reducing being trans to wanting to play with pink things when you have a penis because that's what adverts say, is that what she is saying? Confused

BaronessBrighterThanYou · 20/06/2020 17:51

Ps name changing..

Great name btw

yourestandingonmyneck · 20/06/2020 17:59

Imagine being so over-confident that you write a load of old drivel like that and think that your words could teach someone as ferociously intelligent and well-read as JKR a thing or two.

Agree with this.

That piece was dreadful. She seems very confused about the issues in general and appears to not grasp what JKR is saying at all. She clearly hasn't read it, but decided to go ahead and churn out that nonsense anyway. I hate that about the Internet. All the guff just drowns out the intelligent, reasoned content.

As the PP said, completely overconfident and out of her depth.

TorkTorkBam · 20/06/2020 18:02

A little boy comes to play with a comedian's god daughter.

Boy likes "girl" things.

Comedian says he might grow to be a feminine "cis" man or a tranwoman.

Comedian, and some commenters, say this proves she is open to him being either.

Comedian has already started referring to the little boy by a girl's name and has started calling him "they".

Same old sexists telling boys they are weirdos if they are not neanderthals.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 20/06/2020 18:26

Ask my husband?

Unfortunately for the world ive accidentally made him very GC

I now have to tell him to be careful at work!

PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg · 20/06/2020 18:50

Also, JKR evidently didn't 'hurt my Luna' unless he's also a bloody precocious reader.

ShinyFootball · 20/06/2020 19:20

'I think we as women should be well aware that sex isn't what identifies us as women. That's a ridiculous thought. I don't stop being a woman when I enter menopause. '

If our biology isn't what defines us as when, then what is it that does? I await a response, as I suspect it will render large swathes of women no longer women.

And the idea that fertility is the be all and end all for women and girls, is what they are for and about, is a male view. A male view that results in actual women and actual girls over about 12 being married off, kept to very strict conditions, and not uncommonly murdered in various places around the world.

A lot of men don't 'see' women over a certain age really. Unless they are related to them. They don't want to see them on telly, they definitely don't want to hear their voices. They are no longer of interest. Why are they even in my line of vision, what is the point of them?

What a steaming heap of nonsense.

+++ she can't really believe that feministsc are red hot keen on forcing people to dress, live, work and behave according the strict gender stereotypes ( sex role)???

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 20/06/2020 19:23

One of the posts just has the hashtag #halfwit underneath and it made me cackle like a witch 🤣

Lettera · 20/06/2020 19:36

I think half is being generous!

Ha, mine would be giving her a half hour rant on letting kids be kids and "This is why kids are so messed up these days!"

My son would just mutter darkly about alphabet people and women doing the job of dodgy blokes for them.

Enderthedragon · 20/06/2020 20:08

'I think we as women should be well aware that sex isn't what identifies us as women. That's a ridiculous thought. I don't stop being a woman when I enter menopause. '

This argument is just such crap. Of course women don't stop being women when they enter menopause because menopause itself is a uniquely female experience. No man has ever experienced menopause. The experience of your periods stopping because you have reached a certain age (or your periods stopping because of chemotherapy or because of pregnancy or because you have a hormone issue or because of contraception or because you never had periods to start with because something wasn't right with your female body) is something that only women ever experienced. Men have never experienced this. That's why periods are a female thing!

TorkTorkBam · 20/06/2020 20:28

If I asked my DH he would make dark mutterings too.

His mutterings would be on the topic of "fuckers who say our boys can't be real boys because they have a liking for what those fuckers would call girl's things the bastards!"

It would be a longer rant with more swearing and going on about suicide in men being far too high, which he blames on society forcing men to stay in their sexist lanes and now ramping that up to "have you considered the possibility that you might be trans" because he would be happy wearing eighties man-makeup on an eighties night, knows how to look after a baby and likes to wear pink.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 20/06/2020 20:32

I think half is being generous!

One of my favourite sayings...

If someone gave her half a brain she’d still only have half a brain

ShinyFootball · 20/06/2020 20:40

As an aside ..

'No man has ever experienced menopause'.

No they haven't. The word has a sex specific meaning and menopause is under researched, women have trouble getting help, the symptoms can be debilitating. Lots of menopausal women quit work because of it (Google for stats). And afterwards the things that can happen are only just being talked about, they are as 'unmentionable' as periods were a few decades back. Sites like MN have been really important in allowing women to talk about these things.

Men for years have talked about 'male menopause' and now having testosterone injections to counter their natural, gradual, hormone decline. Which is different in so many ways to menopause (female).

Also, post natal depression. This was coined to apply to the specific circs of women and birth. Birth is a massive event for a woman, a real toll on a body which has already been tested by carrying the baby for 9-10 months. There are huge hormonal changes. Huge life changes. Many women have traumatic births, injuries. 'good' births also often involve pain, injury, recovery. Then there is the social pressure to be happy and get on with it etc.

Men now are saying they get PND. Yes they go through a lot too but it is NOT the same as carrying and birthing a baby and all the psychological and physiological things that happen.

I have no issue with men addressing depression after a new baby but call it something else? Seriously.

Just realised this penchant for taking our words and making them about men is not just happening with trans stuff.

Why can't men just fucking let us have anything to ourselves, even our own distinct biology and what that means.

Side note over.

2BthatUnnoticed · 20/06/2020 23:29

It is 100% fine for boys to wear dresses and like pink. It is 100% fine for boys to have no interest in football or tractors.

This letter is a bizarre way to miss the point entirely.

ATomeOfOnesOwn · 20/06/2020 23:34

I read this when they initially posted it and thought they were just trying to use JK to grow their reputation. Obviously they're not as smart or insightful as they think they are.
It's funny, quite a few blue ticks who have responded to JK think they're posting commentary that identifies them as woke, compassionate and smart ... but we can all see what they really are - misogynists, opportunists, incapable of constructing a valid argument.
I'm still more disappointed with Sarah Paulson - telling a woman to 'shut up' is never a feminist position.

TehBewilderness · 21/06/2020 05:31

Those are the kinds of things that frighten me for the children of homophobic self righteous parents.

Gingerkittykat · 21/06/2020 06:12

There are three separate mentions of genitals in her letter, funny how the TRA lot have an obsession with them.

WinterAndRoughWeather · 21/06/2020 11:22

Every time I read something like this it reaffirms my belief that the majority of the woke simply don’t understand the arguments on either side of this debate. They don’t know who or what they’re fighting for, or against. It’s very odd.

ChubbyPigeon · 21/06/2020 11:43

I really hate these arguments that are all just emotive language, with no real substance. Its just a load of sexist, reductive shit with some bullshit thrown in for good measure

As a child my brother loved dressing up as a princess, hed wear make up and play with dolls, teddies. He grew his hair long.

As an adult hes actually still quite stereotypically feminine in many ways. But hes 6'3, hairy and most definitely a man, just a feminine man. Because just because he liked girl toys didnt actually make him a girl. And Im really glad no one ever tried to put that idea in his head. He is the most wonderful, kind, gentle man, and Im glad hes been allowed to be that.

Incidentally my brother had lots of male friends who have equally liked the things hes liked. Because children actually rarely obey gender stereotypes

HappyPunky · 21/06/2020 14:14

The phrase "you hurt my Luna" at the end rings alarm bells for me because at the start, Luna is the God daughters school friend. How much contact with Luna is this person having?

Could not agree more.

Also, it's like they have failed to understand what sexism is and that it is bad. Bizarre.

That's a line from the Harry Potter book. Mr Lovegood says something about them hurting his Luna to explain why he betrays Harry to the Death Eaters.
ShinyFootball · 21/06/2020 21:11

I know Luna is a character in the film, is that the Luna mentioned? Or the authors niece?

Confused.
