As an aside ..
'No man has ever experienced menopause'.
No they haven't. The word has a sex specific meaning and menopause is under researched, women have trouble getting help, the symptoms can be debilitating. Lots of menopausal women quit work because of it (Google for stats). And afterwards the things that can happen are only just being talked about, they are as 'unmentionable' as periods were a few decades back. Sites like MN have been really important in allowing women to talk about these things.
Men for years have talked about 'male menopause' and now having testosterone injections to counter their natural, gradual, hormone decline. Which is different in so many ways to menopause (female).
Also, post natal depression. This was coined to apply to the specific circs of women and birth. Birth is a massive event for a woman, a real toll on a body which has already been tested by carrying the baby for 9-10 months. There are huge hormonal changes. Huge life changes. Many women have traumatic births, injuries. 'good' births also often involve pain, injury, recovery. Then there is the social pressure to be happy and get on with it etc.
Men now are saying they get PND. Yes they go through a lot too but it is NOT the same as carrying and birthing a baby and all the psychological and physiological things that happen.
I have no issue with men addressing depression after a new baby but call it something else? Seriously.
Just realised this penchant for taking our words and making them about men is not just happening with trans stuff.
Why can't men just fucking let us have anything to ourselves, even our own distinct biology and what that means.
Side note over.
