Women’s toilets now gender neutral in Northampton Park

I noticed this today while walking in Abington Park in Northampton. Only the women’s has changed, the men’s is still labelled ‘gentlemen’.

Is this actually legal? I’ve heard the equality act mentioned and had a quick google but I wondered whether anyone can point me in the right direction of some legislation I can quote when I write to the council.

Doesn't look right to me. My park has gender neutral toilets but they have floor to ceiling doors straight onto the path

My tube station has done this. Old Victorian one.

Had one ladies, one gents. One disabled was added separately.

Now the women's is all genders, the gents is the gents, the disabled is all genders (as it always was, but not supposed to be a free for all).

So women and disabled people have lost facilities, men have a choice of 3 including a traditional men only with urinals.

Really fucks me off.

Poorly worded headline - it's not 'confusion' 🙄

PurpleHoodie · 19/06/2020 18:35

Which train station shiny?

PM if you are not comfortable saying in public.

hedgehogger1 · 19/06/2020 20:32

I don't understand the difference between opening one set of loos to opening two? If perhaps if they clarified why they can only open one set it would help to make more suggestions on how to overcome them

Binglebong · 19/06/2020 22:18

Good article, shame there's no comments.

endlessginandtonic · 19/06/2020 22:56

I thought one of the issues with c19 was viral load?
Surely that would suggest that the safest response is to open as many toilets as possible to reduce the load on any individual toilet rather than condense it onto fewer toilets?

binglebong the comments on the Facebook page are very mixed.

I'd rather not say purple, sorry.

I will share a pic I took at a restaurant in town recently though...

@Bloodyhamabeads yes do. Will try to get it out there.

PurpleHoodie · 20/06/2020 20:59

That's ok shiny.

www.tfl.gov.uk is the place to send complaints.

ShinyFootball · 21/06/2020 02:56

Interesting to see what the council next step is.

Good article.

Michelleoftheresistance · 21/06/2020 10:22

Bravo OP, that's a good article with all of the main points covered.

FreeKitties · 21/06/2020 12:01

Brilliant article !

I still waiting for a response to my email- will keep you posted !

nzborn · 21/06/2020 12:27

l never received a reply from my email.

Antibles · 21/06/2020 12:55

Sorry, how is turning the women’s bogs into a free for all supposed to help prevent ‘Rona spreading?

Well being cynical, I'm wondering if they thought cottaging might carry on so they've shut the gents' facilitites on that ground but won't say.

Michelleoftheresistance · 21/06/2020 13:00

Antibles I wondered that. Otherwise it seems beyond barmy to try and avoid contagion by crowding everyone into the one loo.

And that's before you even start unpicking the inequality and legal requirements for provision.

ShinyFootball · 21/06/2020 13:39

'Well being cynical, I'm wondering if they thought cottaging might carry on so they've shut the gents' facilitites on that ground but won't say.'

So they can do it in the ladies instead... Awesome!

Dicotyledon · 21/06/2020 21:38

This has all been pushed very hard by the toilet lobby. The papers were full of it

POP7777777 · 21/06/2020 21:42

They've always been so foul that I haven't used them for years anyway. Just go to the cafe or the ones by the bowling green.

POP7777777 · 21/06/2020 21:43

Imagine sending kids into a loo which has strange men in it too! (I'm not meaning anyone trans, btw.)

Porridgeoat · 21/06/2020 21:53

Surely the men’s loo could just have a sign saying one man at a time. Lots of shops are doing this So it’s the norm.
