I work for an MP.

We’ve had very few emails about GRA in the last few years- mostly against self ID.

We’ve had 4 emails in the last few days all outraged at this attack on transgender people.
All very similar. It’s a campaign.

We must keep emailing so MPs don’t think everyone agrees with the TRAs.

I'm really sorry to derail but am I the only one who can barely follow a word of this? OP, what does your first post mean? Sorry I'm going away and Googling and trying to remember what all of these abbreviations mean but by the time I've come back to read the post and go away to find the next one I've forgotten the previous ones! I am trying to learn here about what's going on and lend my support but I can't do that if I don't fully understand, and I know I'm not the only one who feels this. Some of the mums in the playground were talking about this and have said they feel a bit alienated by both sides so have no idea what to think! Can someone translate the first post for me pretty please? It's not that I don't understand things in general but all of these acronyms are going straight over my head!!!!

TRA- Trans Rights Activist

Self ID - the act of a male person identifying as a woman (or vice versa) to access things for women (females). In the case of the GRA (Gender Recognition Act) it means that people can legally become the opposite sex and get a new birth certificate.

GC - gender critical - an umbrella term for many types of people who have concerns about various elements of gender identity politics, most notably changing the law to allow self ID to become female, and allowing male people to use women's spaces such as toilets, changing rooms, refuges, prisons etc or compete as women in sport.

Just emailed my (labour) MP, thanks for the prompt.

I emailed her last in this about 2 years ago and she sounded a bit twaw-y so I dont have much hope.

I referenced the JK Rowling news and said about biological sex mattering to women and girls. I asked her flat out if she believed twaw. Let's see

Also just emailed. Labour MP, splinters in bottom from fence-sitting, but every little helps.

I've contacted my MP about 4 separate issues in the past year and not had a single response despite following up. What else can I do?

It is disturbing to hear an equalities minister repeat their talking points almost word for word while outlining plans to reform trans rights.

The minister is using the feedback from the consultation word for word, is that not how cisgenders expected it to work?

I saw on Twitter that GI were boasting their letter generator had sent 20,000 email to Boris. They do know that Dominic Cummings is his chief of staff don't they? They will have set up automated trash filing for the email in the first five minutes.

Then today's wheeze was to call your MP and speak with them directly.

Semi. Acknowledged my concerns but ended with waffle. I didn't beat around the bush this time and told him that safeguarding was not bigotry and he'd do well to look at the work of baroness Nicholson so he understood what was happening in schools too. He has several young daughters.
