I work for an MP.

We’ve had very few emails about GRA in the last few years- mostly against self ID.

We’ve had 4 emails in the last few days all outraged at this attack on transgender people.
All very similar. It’s a campaign.

We must keep emailing so MPs don’t think everyone agrees with the TRAs.

(My MP is GC)

Please- email your MP and let them know your views.

Emailed my MSP, Boris and Truss. Now just seen a pic of said MSP on Twitter with the stunning and brave Scottish Trans Alliance. Confused

BaronessSnippyPantsofCroneArmy · 17/06/2020 19:40

I know Twitter is a cesspit, but we can't let the TRAs own it.
Thanks to ReSisters and WomenUniting for putting this together:

Done.

Feel like a child playing at being a grown up but done.

FantaOra · 17/06/2020 20:05

I know I will be slated for being too confident but I don't think the Committe have got this far without becoming wise to the tactics and are not ready with answers to the challenges. Lot's of incredibly knowledgeable people have engaged with them and they will have come a long way since Maria Miller's gullibility. The TWAW bollocks from Penny Mordaunt saw her moved aside swiftly.

It's going ahead, they have been signaling this for a long time now, I just think the TWAW were too complacent and too busy describing us as cranks and bigots.

timetest · 17/06/2020 20:13

Just emailed mine. Helen Whately Tory.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/06/2020 20:17

I've just done the Boris form too. Cut down my earlier letter as was quite long and basically just said I supported their pledge to protect single sex spaces because these personal reasons.

Should we also contact Baroness Berridge for the Vale of Catmose? She's the Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Women). She has a contact form and email:

I emailed my MP (young-ish Tory male).

Just a brief email to say I was pleased to see the newspaper reports saying that Boris was going to scrap the changes to the GRA and that I hope he would be supporting this. I got a very prompt and brief but positive reply.

I actually followed it up with an email about ongoing financial abuse I'm dealing with at the hands of my ex. Without going into too much detail, police know it's him but can't get the hard evidence so nothing gets done. Abuse of this kind is only going to get more prevalent so I asked the MP if he could raise it or do anything to help. Got a really nice reply, acknowledging that what I'm going through is awful (gave him full details). He is raising it with government ministers to see if there's more the gov should be doing and will be in touch again.

He's worked with women's aid in the past so I'm hoping he really gets these issues.

ThatLockdownLyfe · 17/06/2020 20:34

Oh I'm confused. So it's not definite?

Fucksticks. I sent a "pleased to see single spaces protected" type thing as if it had already happened.

ThatLockdownLyfe · 17/06/2020 20:34

Single SEX spaces Blush

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/06/2020 20:35

Don't worry, they'll know you mean the leaked info in the Times. Your support counts!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/06/2020 20:36

Liz Truss has already pledged to protect single sex spaces, but detail of what that means is TBC.

rednsparkley · 17/06/2020 20:46

I have written to my Labour MP (again) but she has never ever gone against the party so if I get a response I am expecting the party guff about TWAW blah, blah, blah!

beachdreaming2020 · 17/06/2020 20:51

When I last wrote to my female Labour MP I received the most useless template Labour party TWAW response which made me feel like she thought I was a bigot. She’s in a safe seat as well so I get the impression she couldnt care less.

This is brilliant, I wish I'd seen this first. It says to CC the other members of the Women and Equalities Committee then gives all their email addresses. The only thing is, on that thread it gives Liz Truss's email for constitutents and we've had a message back when we sent it to that address, saying for her departmental work it should be sent to:
[email protected]

bouncychair · 17/06/2020 21:07

Done! My MP’s voting record makes me quietly confident he is GC. Have also emailed Liz Truss and the prime minister.

Redshoeblueshoe · 17/06/2020 21:31

My labour MP is woke.
She actually thinks for sport women should just try harder.

Thelnebriati · 17/06/2020 21:42

Ask her if she applies that logic to disabled people.

hypernormal · 17/06/2020 21:49

@Redshoeblueshoe

My labour MP is woke. She actually thinks for sport women should just try harder.
That's insane, just baffling. I can only think such ideas come from either a) people who've never done any kind of sport in their lives or b) cheats
Tomorrowsanewday · 17/06/2020 21:54

Just when you think you’re done emailing for tonight along comes another poster with more emails to contact Grin

Redshoeblueshoe · 17/06/2020 23:13

TheInebriati why didn't I think of that. She was very supportive when I wrote to her regarding something disability related. She even spoke in the HOC about it. Thanks, I'll do that tomorrow.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/06/2020 23:19

saying for her departmental work it should be sent to:
[email protected]

Yes, I forwarded my email on asking her that she look at it in her capacity as Minister for Women and Equalities.

stumbledin · 17/06/2020 23:27

Glad to hear about WomenUniting posting info on twitter - but seriously if you are a campaign surely you need to recongnise you wont get very far if you only communicate by the least used social media platform!

And also they have got together a petition to Liz Truss but done that no hoper thing of putting it on change or some other social media platform.

Surely thisis important enough and to the Government to get it on the Parliament web site.

Thank goodness for mumsnet picking up all these unconnected threads and weaving it into a sensible whole!

stumbledin · 17/06/2020 23:31

Just to correct myself Blush it looks the petition is an old one that they are encouraging people to sign in view of the Sunday times article.

If you google "Change WOMEN UNITING CALL ON THE GOVERNMENT TO PROTECT OUR SEX-BASED RIGHTS" you should find it.
