WRITE TO YOUR MP

I work for an MP.

We’ve had very few emails about GRA in the last few years- mostly against self ID.

We’ve had 4 emails in the last few days all outraged at this attack on transgender people.
All very similar. It’s a campaign.

We must keep emailing so MPs don’t think everyone agrees with the TRAs.

(My MP is GC)

Please- email your MP and let them know your views.

Doing this from Scotland with a SNP MP dinosaur who thinks women are already spoilt rotten by the brilliance of the ScotGov Confused

I plan to thank LT & give personal/local details of importance

Need to have something about hoping the single sex protections will apply here/will apply regardless....

GeneticTest · 16/06/2020 21:19

That website will send it to the MP.

If you send an exact copy & paste email, it is likely be ignored by many MPs- and they may not even see it.
They pay far more attention to personalised emails.

Great reminder. I'm going to write tomorrow about the falsehoods being given to employers about women not being allowed to complain about men with an identity using female services. This is not true and is unwanted conduct of a sexual nature. It's appalling that these lies are being used to threaten women. The government must stop this now.

Muttonindistress · 17/06/2020 11:19

Hi. Thank you for all this great advice. I’m going to email Liz Truss and my local MP this pm while DH is out because he thinks I’ve gone a bit bonkers over all of this.

I have a few questions though.

I have a fairly good idea of what I want to say - but it could easily turn into a long essay. So I was thinking of referring them to some of the posts on here. For example, the one about things that ‘will never happen’ which have happened. Is that okay?

Also, I wonder if it would be a good idea to bump that thread (if I can find it). But I don’t know how that’s done. Do you ask MNHQ?

Finally, I am a bit nervous about emailing MP as I know him slightly. (He often visits my DD’s special School.) So I’m scared of outing myself as GC without knowing his views. Is there anyway of getting an idea of an MPs views on this issue? I’ve googled and he seems okay on women’s stuff - but that doesn’t mean he’s not TWAW. He’s Tory and youngish, but doesn’t seem like a woke bloke.

I am new to ‘campaigning’, so any advice Is very welcome. I’ve got to nag DD into doing some School work now - but will pop back in later.

Thank you.

Apparently Liz Truss is making a statement right now

Thelnebriati · 17/06/2020 12:20

If you are worried about writing to your MP ask yourself what are you most afraid of, being called a bigot, or being put in the position where you realise you are using a mixed sex service that you assumed would be single sex?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/06/2020 12:24

My MP is a waste of space on this issue. I will write to Liz Truss and Boris.

Abitofalark · 17/06/2020 13:27

Muttonindistress, You can find out your MP's views here; his speeches, how he voted on different issues, his declared interests, whether he is a member of any parliamentary groups or Committees on particular subjects, etc.

www.theyworkforyou.com/

There's also Parliament's website, with a wealth of information:

www.parliament.uk/

And Hansard, the official transcript of debates and proceedings in Parliament:

hansard.parliament.uk/

Abitofalark · 17/06/2020 13:47

No point in expecting anything from My MP Lib Dem Ed Davey. He did a Mumsnet question and answer session a while ago and came out as a fervent trans ideologue.

The bad news is that he is currently acting leader of the Lib Dems and hopes to win the leadership this summer based on his 'vision, experience and leadership'. Hah. Worse news is that the other main contenders include Layla Moran, a devotee of the trans mantra. Wera Hobhouse is the other one - I don't know about her.

Manderleyagain · 17/06/2020 14:13

Just came here to say that there is an organised campaign to get people to email MPagainst the plan to drop gra reform etc. Gendered intelligence have tweeted about it, and tra twitter is encouraged that they are making the government think twice.

I have already emailed my mp, but I will also email no 10 and liz truss.

hypernormal · 17/06/2020 14:14

Abitofalark I'd write anyway, because frankly I don't believe any of them believe this sh*t they're spouting or have done any research other than being indoctrinated by lobby groups. More and more voices are speaking out on this, the public are becoming more aware of the issues and they seriously aren't going to hold this extremist, science-denying view forever, it's not going to work. I imagine they'll quietly back away from it eventually and hope no-one remembers how stupid and misogynistic jumping on this bandwagon has made them look. We won't forget, though.

TedsFederationRep · 17/06/2020 14:27

It doesn't matter how woke your MP is or which party your MP represents, the simple fact is that as a constituent, you have every right to speak up and have your voice heard. You have every right to tell your MP what you stand for and what you won't stand for.

If we stay silent because we think our voices will be ignored, then the only voices they will hear will be those of the TRAs and trans allies and they will feel fully justified in going straight ahead in the full knowledge that they have received only validation and support. MPs need to know they don't have a free pass on this. They need to know that TRAs do not speak for all women and girls.

Abitofalark · 17/06/2020 15:39

hypernormal, Some of them are batty enough to believe unbelievable nonsense! I certainly won't forget.
TedsFederationRep, Your arguments are right. I know that. Our own individual MPs are the basis of Parliament and our link to it but I now think we also need to get right in there, writing and giving evidence to the official cross-party select committees (who do the investigations, reports and policy recommendations which are supposed to be independent of government, like the Miller travesty), and even the All Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) which are not official but self-forming groups with a special subject of interest. There's a long list of those. It's a way of making views known to MPs besides our own.

TheBobbinIsWoundUp · 17/06/2020 16:10

I want to refer to that article that listed a selection of the rape and death threats JKR received in response to her article but can’t remember where it was - can anyone help me out?

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 17/06/2020 16:18

I’ve emailed my MP. She’s new, Labour. We’ll see what she says.

TedsFederationRep · 17/06/2020 16:21

Here is an article from Glinner, TheBobbinIsWoundUp. The screenshot you want is near the bottom. Be warned though, the whole article is a hard read. Glinner lays it all out systematically, using the brave and stunning ones' own words.

TheBobbinIsWoundUp · 17/06/2020 16:30

Thank you, hyper and Teds! I could find the Times one, but it didn’t have a link to the medium one, which is what I wanted. I thought that would be more powerful than anything I could write.

marplemead · 17/06/2020 16:38

I have written to my Lib Dem TWAW MP. I have never written to my MP before, so thank you to all that suggested ways of organising and structuring the email. Will report back when she replies.

PenOrPencil · 17/06/2020 16:40

Just surprised myself by emailing not only my local MP but also Liz Truss and Boris Johnson.

I used this letter by Human Rights Watch as a base (just needed to write the exact opposite) and also included a link to JK Rowling’s essay.

We really do need to make our voices heard, thank you to everybody on here who keeps nudging Flowers

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/06/2020 17:03

Emailed a heartfelt letter this afternoon with links to evidence to my MP and Liz Truss at her GEO address. I copied BJ but I don't think he'll read it as not through the proper channels.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/06/2020 17:04

Obviously he probably wouldn't read it anyway Grin

SerenityNowwwww · 17/06/2020 17:06

My mp is useless. She just bitches about everything the gvt does and cheerleads for the mayor. Never answers email or tweets. Only there because people vote Labour our of habit.

stumbledin · 17/06/2020 17:16

I think Liz Truss was talking about conversion therapy, but maybe there was more.

also, and nobody needs to click on the link but PN have published this today: "Thousands of cisgender women sign letter urging Liz Truss to halt anti-trans plans: ‘We do not need protecting from trans people’ " www.pinknews.co.uk/2020/06/17/liz-truss-gender-recognition-act-reform-cis-women-open-letter-trans-equality/

Letter is here liztrussopenletter.wordpress.com/
