I work for an MP.

We’ve had very few emails about GRA in the last few years- mostly against self ID.

We’ve had 4 emails in the last few days all outraged at this attack on transgender people.
All very similar. It’s a campaign.

We must keep emailing so MPs don’t think everyone agrees with the TRAs.

(My MP is GC)

Please- email your MP and let them know your views.

That's my (Tory male) MP done and Liz Truss. I was able to make it very personal, mentioned how gyms are falling to 'self-id' policies which effectively exclude girls and women who can't face meeting males in their changing rooms, how schools bringing in 'gender-neutral' toilets is already leading to girls not being able to go to the toilet, etc.

If you include all the ways you know it would affect you (and other girls and women) if self-id is brought in - because it's already happened in many respects - you need to emphasise how this will curtail your own rights to use facilities.

I also mentioned the EA2010 provisions for single-sex facilities and the fact that it excludes a wide range of women, specifically mentioning also women of particular faiths.

VickyEadieofThigh · 16/06/2020 13:53

Just done Keir Starmer. Emphasised my socialist credentials and how he's lost my vote and that of a lot of women.

Thelnebriati · 16/06/2020 13:58

I wrote to mine about single sex hospital wards and prisons but they are woke and I never heard back. I'll try again.

Skyliner001 · 16/06/2020 13:59

I am not GC and have written to my MP with my opinions. I think it's always a good idea to write to your MP though I rarely feel I get a meaningful response back.

Floopsy · 16/06/2020 14:19

Thank you. I have just written to mine

Sukibert · 16/06/2020 14:42

Just emailed my MP. Mentioned the changes to NHS info, trans toolkits being withdrawn etc and the Manchester Detrans meeting I attended last October.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 16/06/2020 15:09

OMG. I've written to my MP. Never done it before.

I drafted my own narrative, kept it short and to the point and avoided getting emotionally involved.

Today is a good day Smile

Cuntysnark · 16/06/2020 15:18

I’ve written to mine many times. He kind of gets it. I’ve ordered a raft of thank you cards this morning so I’ll be writing a snail mail piece to many MPs.

KipperTheFrog · 16/06/2020 15:21

First time I have ever emailed an MP, but I've done it. Male Conservative in my constituency. No idea of his views on sex and gender, wait and see if I get a response.

WinterIsGone · 16/06/2020 15:24

Have just emailed mine as well. I noticed I'd last emailed on this issue in October 2018, so a new email was well overdue!

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 16/06/2020 15:25

Yes, I have no idea on my MP's views. She's female, Labour and early 30s. Who knows? Let's see if anything comes back.

OvaHere · 16/06/2020 15:26

I wrote to mine on Sunday (male, Tory) thanking them for their commitment to women's rights under the EqA (as published in the Times). I also added a few further points of areas that need closer scrutiny.

I received a same day reply later that evening so I think it came from him rather than an assistant.

It didn't say a lot, just thanked me for writing and asked that I write again with my thoughts once the policy is released in full.

I spoke to him on the doorstep at the last election and whilst he was cautious he clearly gets the gist of the issues.

McDuffy · 16/06/2020 15:34

Thanks for the prompt, just wrote to Liz Truss, I emailed my very safe-seated Labour MP on Sunday but no reply yet.

2020Wumben · 16/06/2020 15:43

Anyone have any advice for us in NI whose MP doesn't take their seat?

You could contact the Women and Equalities office.
FliesandPies · 16/06/2020 15:56

Mine is Labour out gay previously stated TWAW - but, has been given shadow cabinet job so depends what example Starmer is going to set perhaps?

I wrote to him about Cummings and he was quick to reply, not so sure he'll welcome any criticism of GRA

2020Wumben · 16/06/2020 15:57

Thank you @OvaHere, will do that and the PM and Starmer.

PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg · 16/06/2020 15:58

Just got a response from mine (well, the one for my U.K. base).

Youngish, male, Tory. He's in 'complete agreement & very pleased with the party stance' Grin.

Good lad. Never thought I'd say that of a Tory boy! I won't name him because I don't want to sic the monitors on him, although they seem to mostly be driving people more firmly into our GC arms atm.

Clymene · 16/06/2020 16:03

I have written to mine before on this issue and he's in agreement that single sex spaces should be upheld (Tory, male, 50s). I shall write to him again saying how pleased I am

Deltoids1 · 16/06/2020 16:11

Since I’m sat here contemplating a snooze I thought I’d put my time to good use and have emailed my MP. He’s male and story but was the only one to respond when I emailed all candidates at the last elections. Shamed on Labour and the LibDems ad it’s this stuff that might make me vote Tory for the first time in my life

Mollyollydolly · 16/06/2020 16:49

I've Witten to my MP but she's a TWAW believer. Anyway I cc'd Keir Starmer into the email as well, so at least that way he will see the strength of feeling. I also emailed Downing Street to state my support of Liz Truss.

bettyfilous · 16/06/2020 17:27

Have written to my MP. From a face to face conversation, my MP understands the issues and supports upholding the EA exemptions. My MP also has a handle on the way lobbying groups are misrepresenting EA2010 and said it needs to be addressed. In my email today I’ve told my MP I won’t vote for Labour in the next election unless the party acknowledges women’s legitimate concerns on this issue and start upholding women’s rights, even though s/he individually is a good MP.

HeyBells · 16/06/2020 17:35

Written to my MP for the first time (finally). She's a Tory and always follows the party line, so hope in this case! I meant it to be short but it ended up longer. I referenced JKR and linked her essay and also linked to the Baroness' tweet with letter to Gavin Williamson. I pointed out that 4 years after Jo Cox's murder TRAs were not showing kindness.

Also brief emails to Liz Truss, No 10 and Keir Starmer sent.

MorbidMuch · 16/06/2020 18:04

I've emailed my Tory MP. This makes it the 4th time in about 4 years. She has always responded.

1st reply was meaningless waffle about the government's commitment to equality

2nd reply sounded more interested. I'd linked to the survey commissioned a couple of years ago that showed the strength of GC feeing when questions were phrased in very neutral ways. I can't remember the name of this now? It was clear that she had followed the link and looked at the survey results.

3rd reply sounded like she had swung more into the GC position. That letter was focused on prisons. She had taken further steps to look into it further.

Fingers crossed that she continues in the same vein with this one.

@2020Wumben

Anyone have any advice for us in NI whose MP doesn't take their seat?
Find an MP you actually like. I email the Alliance guy for North Down and he doesn't seem to check what constituency I'm in. I got a good reply from him (if a bit copy and pasted) about the BLM stuff. I'm actually in a DUP constituency because there's a weird boundary, but I won't talk to the DUP because Northern Ireland politics lol. I've got connections to the Travelling community so I've focused on the need for women's only spaces for that reason (Traveller women can't be touched by men except their husband) and for Muslim women.

I also emailed Liz Truss using the email address someone here posted.

I can't get the email number 10 link to work which is a shame because I want to email them. :(
