Body shop have replied to my email expressing my disgust at their stance and attack on JKR.
They admit to 'getting it wrong', but don't won't accept the simple fact that it is women that menstruate.

"We stand with ALL menstruators."

JFC. Here's a piece of advice to Body Shop: when in a hole, stop digging.

FFSFFSFFS · 15/06/2020 17:32

But what on earth is a corporate entity doing disagreeing or not disagreeing with the issue in the first place!!!!

Sure - corporations have a level of corporate responsibility. But it certainly doesn't extend to this!

TinselAngel · 15/06/2020 17:34

Why do they need to have a position? They don't even sell anything connected to periods?

022828MAN · 15/06/2020 17:36

Absolutely, they had no need to chime in on it in the first place.
I would like to see a public apology to JKR and all women who KNOW that it is women that menstruate for a start. It's no good just emailing individuals in regards to something to this magnitude.

That’s quite a disgusting email. Yuck. Menstruators. Sure as shitting they don’t refer to themselves as menstruators.

Thisismytimetoshine · 15/06/2020 17:38

Gotta be fair to all the menstruaters... As a "position" (that as Tinsel pointed out they don't even need as they have no dog in the race on this one), it is a supremely stupid one.
I'll never buy their over packaged, over priced shite again.

VickyEadieofThigh · 15/06/2020 17:38

If they'd said "Women and transmen..." almost everyone would've been fine with it.

But they're still saying "men menstruate".

No, they don't!

YogaNChocolate · 15/06/2020 17:39

‘People‘ have periods? Have they lost their tiny minds?!

When are they going to rename their men’s products ‘penis-haver’s shaving cream’ etc?
Because, you know, women have penises, too. Oh, sorry...we can’t say ‘women’.

Menstruators have penises, too?

Absolute bloody madness! Tying themselves up in woke knots and for what? I won’t be shopping there again until they reinstate the word woman and use it correctly. The last time I checked the dictionary, the definition hadn’t changed.

Pudding51 · 15/06/2020 17:40

Another shop I won't be buying from again !!

ErnDincum · 15/06/2020 17:42

Since when do men menstruate?!! I hope they will now refer to men as ejaculators. And as for they believe it's important to keep having conversations around these difficult topics, that's an obvious lie. They jumped on the witch hunt bandwagon with JKR in an attempt to win woke points. They won't debate because they can't! Their stance, and the stance of all those chanting TMAM/TWAW is purely faith based - like a religion, no evidence needed. No scientific base at all.

I left them a bad review on fb, but I can't find it. I think they're removing negative reviews. I've used their stuff since they first opened, but will never shop there again. I used to spend quite a bit on presents at xmas too.

Well done on your response though. Sounds like they realise they've pissed off a lot of menstruaters!

bishopgiggles · 15/06/2020 17:46

Whatever their view, the fact they promoted their bath bombs on the back of a woman's account of male violence makes it even worse.

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 15/06/2020 17:51

They aren't even apologising for what they said, just that the tone was off. Well, I've already gone to a small independent for the soaps that I was about to go and buy from them. Bye BS, will be sourcing my body lotions from elsewhere as well.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 15/06/2020 17:51

Agree with PP regarding digging a hole.
I received a promotional e-mail from them - unsubscribed, requested they remove all my personal data and gave feedback.
Absolute travesty!
And yes, J.K.Rowling should have an apology from them.

DeRigueurMortis · 15/06/2020 17:51

Who the hell is writing this crap?

Well they can take their woke ejaculations and stuff them.

In the meantime this woman will spend her money elsewhere - including a donation to Lumos to thank JKR.

LaureBerthaud · 15/06/2020 17:52

Are they going to apologise to JKR for being twats?

God, I'm nostalgic for the days of bath pearls, dewbury spray and AGAINST ANIMAL TESTING sweatshirts.

boatyardblues · 15/06/2020 17:55

@RoyalCorgi

"We stand with ALL menstruators."

JFC. Here's a piece of advice to Body Shop: when in a hole, stop digging.

That covers it. Good to have such a tone deaf response though. It makes the decision not to purchase from them again so much easier.
whatisheupto · 15/06/2020 17:57

I am new to all this so forgive me....but what do they mean by "men menstruate"?

Bananabixfloof · 15/06/2020 17:58

I got the exact same reply, I'm currently editing another response to this twaddle if anyone has any incitful words?

I wont let this drop.

Lottapianos · 15/06/2020 18:03

What an utterly crackers response. Who writes this shite? Seriously. 'We stand with all menstruators' - like that's a totally normal and noble thing to say! Dont know whether to Grin or Sad. Not spending another penny with them though, and I'm a fan of a lot of their products

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/06/2020 18:03

Who the hell is writing this crap?

A young woke intern, by the sound of it. Whoever signed off on it. It's got that nauseating tweeness that companies seem to think is engaging to their audiences, which people with more cynicism who don't live in a social media bubble don't pull off very well. Unless they're very very cynical indeed. And then they'd probably realise that it's not the best business strategy to alienate many of your core market and actively criticise them. See Gerald Ratner.

Lottapianos · 15/06/2020 18:05

'A young woke intern, by the sound of it'

If that's the case, and I think it's very likely, why haven't they been reined in by somebody with their head screwed on? Body Shop have had a ROASTING on Twitter over this, with loads of women saying they're not spending another penny there. Why is that not getting through?

Divebar · 15/06/2020 18:06

I am new to all this so forgive me....but what do they mean by "men menstruate"?

I’m assuming they mean trans men... that’s the only explanation I can think of ( also pretty new to this). The most startling fact for me is the fact the Body Shop even exist anymore - I figured they were long gone.

PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg · 15/06/2020 18:08

Just received same reply. Sent a polite but firm Howler back.

Pudding51 · 15/06/2020 18:08

As I stated earlier I will not buy any of their products again, 1) because of their vile response to jkr, 2)I haven't menstrated for years and I am a biological woman, and their says they stand with all menstrators, don't think they thought of the post menopausal market 😯

whatisheupto · 15/06/2020 18:09

Oh. I see. Kind of. Thanks @Divebar.
