Just seen this on Twitter.

For those who like their Ginger Shampoo, can I suggest MooGoo.

Also, Aveeno is a good replacement for their Shea butter.

Other thoughts welcome. Feel free to suggest other ideas.

I am not going to complain. They will just cut and paste a paragraph defending their woke position. For me I like to do what we British do best. Smile and say "everything is perfect" to the waiter and then never go there again and tell 20 people it is crap.

Don't shop there. That is enough. Let them spend money scratching their heads and to employ consultants as to why their sales have gone down and why women, their main demographic, stays away.

Give people you care about feedback to change their services. Why say them consulting fees by giving them feedback. We owe them nothing.

SpocksEyebrows · 11/06/2020 10:21

By the way, that is what Ocado did. They just sent snotty emails back to us. I have not used them since.

CaraDune · 11/06/2020 10:21

I've just emailed their CEO ([email protected]). I included a screenshot of the montage of abuse JKR's been getting and ended with:

As a result, you have chosen to take the side of the sort of people who tweeted responses like those in the image below, rather than that of a woman making a nuanced and fair-minded argument, at considerable personal cost to herself (she makes it clear in her blog post that talking about her past abuse is something she would much rather not have to do).

Finally, a kinder woman than I might well be prepared to wish you luck with your new customer base (from those screen grabs, I would say you will need it). I however, am not a kind woman. I hope this is your Gerald Ratner moment.

Yours, without regards, kind or otherwise,

(PS - dear peeps from The Bodyshop monitoring this. If one of you doxxes me on the basis of this post I will sue your fucking arses off under DPR legislation.)

merrymouse · 11/06/2020 10:23

What did Ocado do?

SpocksEyebrows · 11/06/2020 10:25

In 2018 Mumsnet went ballistic when this happened. Cut and paste from thread back then:

In a nutshell

  • Billboard goes up saying woman are adult human females
  • Men's Rights Activists complains that women are "appropriating" the word woman and demand it is removed
  • Billboard company says "oh yes you are right we agree" and remove it
  • Ocado see this and say "oh yes we agree too"

Please tell me you do not use Ocado. Many of us received really snotty emails from them when we complained. We, women, are their main customers and they treated us with absolute contempt.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 11/06/2020 10:26

There are plenty of decent moisturisers around. It's a long time since The Body Shop were all that. These days they are not a patch on the old raspberry ripple bathing bubbles and foaming peach face wash!

Ninkanink · 11/06/2020 10:28

Ocado, M&S, John Lewis/Waitrose, Lush, Body shop, Flora (although tbf I’d never bought any of their nasty products)...there are lots more on my list, and they will stay there.

I won’t shop with any of them ever again.

PamDenick · 11/06/2020 10:31

Has anyone had any reply from Body Shop yet?

Justhadathought · 11/06/2020 10:37

Justhadathought IUVO is a small business. I've bought from them at Oxford Christmas market but they're online. Products are fab and ethical, they might be able to help

Thanks!

I've tried Faith in Nature shampoo, myself, which is why I suggested it. and you can get it on the high street.

I used to dread going in to the Body Shop with my loyalty card......because every time you went in for one thing, you ended up being bamboozled into coming out with three......with their endless persuasions to "buy three and get one free", or "buy two and get the third at half price" and so on......

And place such as Occitane always ask for your email address and postcode when you attempt to buy anything. I always refuse. Now I just don't go in at all.

I don't really like on-line shopping, and would like to support the high street and local retailers, especially...and as you suggest craft/artisan markets are always a good source for products.

Fantasisa · 11/06/2020 10:37

I can imagine the social media team presenting the tweet as its best performing of the year in the same meeting that the execs wonder why no one buys their overpriced products any more.

ChaToilLeam · 11/06/2020 10:40

I like their stuff and was considering buying some in the online sale... won’t be doing so now.

printingworksheets · 11/06/2020 10:42

@Seasidetrains you did well to try to inject a bit of independent thought into the discussion! It doesn't matter whether or not I agree with you, it is refreshing to see someone wanting to discuss issues without jumping on any particular bandwagon.

Lordfrontpaw · 11/06/2020 10:48

Also remember the add a shot of their ‘like’

The Body Shop has fallen
AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 11/06/2020 10:49

I’ve just requested all my personal details be removed from their system as I no longer wish to be a customer of theirs. They didn’t ask why. They complied with my request.
I thanked them politely with the sign off wishing them well with their public misogyny and harassment, bullying and shaming of women who dare to speak out in defence of their sex based rights.
They ask for my address, date of birth, etc. Now I’m paranoid about the doxxing mentioned by a PP. This is just 0.5% of the fear put on JK.

Lordfrontpaw · 11/06/2020 10:49

‘Yours, without regards, kind or otherwise‘ oh I do like that (must pinch it)

Fiftysix · 11/06/2020 11:02

I received an email ad this morning(tanning gunk), so I replied @ on twitter ,saying after their message to jkr I want nothing to do with them. It wont matter to them, im only a woman-(or me, i think the business is on its last legs, anyway).

YgritteSnow · 11/06/2020 11:08

And the net tightens that little bit more around the transphobes.

In what way? Because we can't use Mango Body Butter anymore?

MockersGuidedByTheScience · 11/06/2020 11:12

I wasn't aware that the Body Shop had ever been upright enough to fall in the first place.

We had a thread on them a while back, featuring their "Naked" campaigns when staff were "encouraged" to wander the streets wearing just an apron handing out leaflets.

Bullying bastards.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 11/06/2020 11:23

Yes it’s awesome
heartsonacake · 11/06/2020 11:30

This awful. So awful. They should be ashamed of themselves.

heartsonacake · 11/06/2020 11:31

*is

WomanIsTaken · 11/06/2020 11:31

Super letter, Cara.
I am so angry.
Luckily hate Body Shop stuff anyway.

Fiftysix · 11/06/2020 11:35

If loreal owns the body shop , and loreal chooses to reemploy mb. Then this bullying is from the top,and is pretty brazen

AnyFucker · 11/06/2020 11:41

I like that message @CaraDune

PearPickingPorky · 11/06/2020 11:41

I've emailed. Awful position to take.
