www.gaystarnews.com/article/trans-people-are-preparing-to-flee-uk-after-government-threatens-new-bathroom-law/

"She said: ‘As a trans person I no longer feel safe. And the reason I don’t feel safe is not the random on-street stuff.

‘There has always been an undertone of violence directed at me and trans people generally.

‘But at least there has been a sense that the government understood and was happy to go along with broadly accepted rights that have been won in this country and that are accepted elsewhere. Now I’ve lost faith the government will defend us.’

She has started to plan a move, so she is not ‘caught on the hop’. In particular, she is looking at whether she’d need asylum seeker status to live in New Zealand."

Tantrums like a toddler

Lordfrontpaw · 05/06/2020 14:45

''seething hatred of women'' and yet, and yet. I don't quite understand the logic.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/06/2020 14:58

I thought that was some other charmer.

No, it was Fae. Probably not the only one, granted. We weren't pulling our weight!

Lordfrontpaw · 05/06/2020 16:00

Wasn’t the shon-one?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/06/2020 16:01

Quite possibly!

GrumpyGran8 · 05/06/2020 17:04

that is hilarious how does Jane think Jane will qualify as an asylum seeker!
Here are the rules for claiming asylum in New Zealand (PDF).
I think Jane will need a bit more proof than claims about threats and knife attacks - like police and medical reports, for example.

Actually not:
'The 57-year-old woman [sic] was granted New Zealand residency by the immigration and protection tribunal in Auckland, who decided the woman was safer to remain in her adopted country where she had experienced no abuse or discrimination since arriving in 2009.'

'In pleading for the woman to be allowed to remain in New Zealand, her lawyer, Kar-yen Partington, presented 20 articles [from Pink News presumably] to the tribunal detailing transphobic hate crimes in the UK.'

CaraDune · 05/06/2020 18:42

Our gain is New Zealand's loss. (Or is that the other way round? Hard to get these things right, what with having a lady brain encased in an egg-shell skull.)

LillianBland · 05/06/2020 18:54

CaraDune Nope. I think you had it the right way around.

ahumanfemale · 05/06/2020 22:28

I was just redirected here after starting another thread in this.

I'm utterly disgusted at the thought they would consider applying for asylum. I know how dreadfully oppressed they feel they are, but putting themselves on a par with people who are fleeing actual abuses (the sort of torture Human Rights Watch details, for example) is something they should be called out on. Loudly. ANYBODY who falls for this shite and parrots it, should also be called out.

They are essentially putting the UK's treatment of transwomen on a par with the treatment of gay people in Saudi Arabia, Syria, Malaysia, Egypt, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and the list could continue.

Those in the LGB community who campaign for rights, and are happy with the T being included, should also be speaking out about this. The UK is a country with faults, sure, but one that LGB(T) people flee TO.

And journos PLEASE look at the actual number of trans people murdered (and who they were killed by...) in the U.K. before writing opinion pieces posing as fact.

quixote9 · 06/06/2020 07:17

Oh hell no. Stay out. Fuck right off, and then keep going. The last thing New Zealand needs is more smarmy-brained wokesters pulling the country even further into UpIsDownLand.

ThroughHedgeBackwards · 06/06/2020 07:26

because they feel it is no longer safe

I've wasted all this time thinking that TW don't understand what it is like to be a woman, when all the time they did.

Oh the hypocrisy that they feel threatened but then if you challenge trans rights the first thing they do is use threats of violence to shut women up.

ChattyLion · 06/06/2020 07:48

My irony-meter just broke at the thought of an extreme porn advocate ‘how to wipe your hard drives’ Jane Fae, complaining about feeling unsafe due to male violence. I mean violence of any kind is awful and presumably the police are investigating but I also hope Fae feels burning hot shame when Fae thinks of what degrading and frightening material Fae has been advocating for and what that could encourages in the treatment of women in real life. Who don’t have the physical deterrent of being 6 foot three. Sad I’m sure Fae will now join the dots and become an active ally to women’s causes.

BusyProcrastinator · 06/06/2020 09:24

Jane Fae is not a nice person in many ways. Having to ‘come out’ right before their daughter’s exams (which went awry subsequently) and ‘DV gone wrong’ comments are a couple of examples.

But can we avoid victim blaming? Someone upthread wondered where the person who’s been threatened 3 times with a knife is hanging out. It doesn’t matter!

It’s pretty disturbing that trans people are facing violence like this. It’s more evidence that the problem isn’t GC women, it’s violent men. Men really need to start accepting gender-variant men! But us GC women shouldn’t dismiss male violence just because it’s happening to people we disagree with.

OldCrone · 06/06/2020 09:36

My irony-meter just broke at the thought of an extreme porn advocate ‘how to wipe your hard drives’ Jane Fae, complaining about feeling unsafe due to male violence.

But if Fae thinks that being a woman is all about being subjected to violence and humiliation, Fae must be over the moon at having this directed at Faeself.

ShinyFootball · 06/06/2020 13:39

Crscare a couple of things about that case-

The person already lived in New Zealand
They were highly intelligent and an IT person with additional engineering expertise so were considered a valuable person.

Do these things apply to Fae?

ShinyFootball · 06/06/2020 13:41

Sorry that sounds like a criticism- it was a really interesting link!
