JK Rowling threatening legal action

A TRA and Canadian Green Party rep has made libellous comments about JK regarding her position on trans rights and her suitability to be trusted around children.
JK asked her to retract them or they would hear from JK's lawyers. Currently they are digging in. Seemingly unaware that JK has pursued legal cases based on Twitter comments before and that it isn't acceptable to make unfounded statements about people.
It will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
It could have wider reaching consequences if certain sectors see they can't just make unfounded accusations any more.

She didn't muscle in. Women are allowed not only to have opinions but to express them too. Famous people are also allowed to have opinions. Rich people are also allowed to have opinions.

Wow the ever fragrant doctor might need to find an actual lawyer friend!

MrsOfBebbanburg · 30/05/2020 17:58

Oh silly Dr. The gift that keeps on giving. Hope someone is keeping JKR informed about who else she might need to direct her lawyers towards.

RoyalCorgi · 30/05/2020 18:07

I think Dr Haddock's comments are clearly libellous. I'm surprised his lawyer friend didn't put him right on that. Perhaps lawyer friend isn't as good a friend as Dr H imagines him to be.

FannyCann · 30/05/2020 18:07

God bless hope her lawyers go after those two. Easy pickings, what with being in the UK. It's time the Bercow principles were refreshed.

FannyCann · 30/05/2020 18:09

Weird. I typed "God I hope...."
Not God Bless.
But she's welcome to all the blessings being heaped upon her for bringing sunlight & especially if she teaches a few people an overdue lesson.

CaveMum · 30/05/2020 18:51

Folk are on it, screenshots and JKR has been tagged.

TRAs are pushing the #cantsueusall hashtag:

twitter.com/search?q=%23cantsueusall&src=typed_query

This could mean JKR has little choice but to take action. Spurling is probably viewing this escalation with alarm.

Lordfrontpaw · 30/05/2020 19:06

#cansuewillsue?

TehBewilderness · 30/05/2020 19:17

I expect most will just get letters from her attorneys. She said she gets this sort of thing from men like these constantly so I suspect there is a procedure in place.

Aesopfable · 30/05/2020 19:19

If Twitter itself in anyway liable? I am sure that question must have been asked before.

Datun · 30/05/2020 19:26

They are seeing everything through the lens of their own narcissism, hence all the accusations of transphobia. This has a legal viewpoint that they are entirely blind to.

I'm sick to death of transphobia being levelled at anyone, everyone.

Let's have it. Let's have a definition.

JK has the power and drive to take this right the way up the food chain. Let's have it.

Let's fucking have it.

So we can stop messing about.

TheChampagneGalop · 30/05/2020 19:27

My god. That hashtag is showing twitter TRAs for what they are: A sea of anonymous anime-avatars competing over who can sound more bonkers than the other.

Lordfrontpaw · 30/05/2020 19:29

The plan is to send pictures of their willies into the kids art competition. Funny, I thought...

Aesopfable · 30/05/2020 19:32

Transwomen are planning to send pictures of their penises to kids to show what exactly?

TheChampagneGalop · 30/05/2020 19:35

To show that they are safe around children unlike JK, of course.

Dances · 30/05/2020 19:35

Wow, that hashtag is quite something. I do hope there are some journalists hovering

Lordfrontpaw · 30/05/2020 19:38

@Aesopfable

Don’t even try to make sense out of that.

But it is showing that trans women can sometimes have that little something, that je ne sais pas, that little extra...

TheChampagneGalop · 30/05/2020 19:40

I have reported a couple of very graphic threats of violence towards her, posted under children's artwork.

nauticant · 30/05/2020 19:51

For anyone thinking of reporting tweets, I'd suggest archiving them first before they're taken down either by twitter or the person responsible when they realise they have to hide their insane tweets:
(1) web.archive.org/
(2) archive.fo/

(1) is slightly more fiddly to use but (2) is more likely to be around in several years' time.

Lordfrontpaw · 30/05/2020 19:57

Twitter is unlikely to do anything.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 30/05/2020 19:58

I don't get their thinking behind 'cant sue us all'. Jo has unlimited funds. You give a firm of lawyers a blank cheque and tell them to go, they aren't going to stop because they get bored! Do they think there's millions of them or something? I'm willing to be there aren't.

AnyFucker · 30/05/2020 19:58

Mr Hayden is calling JKR "vexatious"

All the lols Grin

TheChampagneGalop · 30/05/2020 19:59

Do you think we should archive the threats?

I just immedately reported a bunch (now gone) in horror after someone posted under JK commenting on a child's drawing that she should be skinned alive. Imagine the parent showing their child that their favourite author has praised their artwork and then they see such a comment.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 30/05/2020 19:59

They what?

You are joking?
