JK Rowling threatening legal action

A TRA and Canadian Green Party rep has made libellous comments about JK regarding her position on trans rights and her suitability to be trusted around children.
JK asked her to retract them or they would hear from JK's lawyers. Currently they are digging in. Seemingly unaware that JK has pursued legal cases based on Twitter comments before and that it isn't acceptable to make unfounded statements about people.
It will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
It could have wider reaching consequences if certain sectors see they can't just make unfounded accusations any more.

Remember when people thought Borat was just outrageous comedy?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/06/2020 09:09

Utterly ridiculous. No amount of hormone therapy is going to change height and fundamentals like broad shoulders and narrow hips. Not sure what happens to muscle mass when hormone levels change, but I doubt the size of the lungs reduces even if the heart and other muscles do.

Lordfrontpaw · 06/06/2020 10:21

I saw a post on twitter where someone was adamant that their feet had shrunk as a result of hormones. Not convinced...

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/06/2020 10:57

After the claim that tissue in the neovagina changes from regular skin to mucus membranes because "it know what it's meant to be" I tend to regard claims of transition related physical changes with somewhat of a cynical eye.

(Please note that the eye in question has not been physically changed by the power of the mind, because reality)

Crikey. I mean martial arts can be a good path for young people with criminal records to gain self control. From that comment to Rowling it doesn't sound like it's working here. Don't you get chucked out if some martial art disciplines for that sort of thing?

BaronessRadishFemish · 06/06/2020 11:20

Go on. What do people think now? Insightful? Inciteful? It's going to be one of those I'd guess.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/06/2020 11:24

Depends on whether or not he at any point in the film wore a skirt?

(All I remember is the mankini)

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 06/06/2020 11:48

I think now we are living on the flipside, and somebody thought Andy Kaufman was serious.

ShowPicturesOfLifeNotDeath · 06/06/2020 12:47

@AnyOldPrion

In line with the suggestion we should repeal the GRA, rather than fight self-ID, I propose a push for a return to plain English that removes all Newspeak.

I no longer use any words that include Newspeak terminology. So no use of “trans” no use of “identify”.

Woman who claims to be a man.
Man who claims to be a woman.

Woman who says she is a man.
Man who says he is a woman.

Woman who claims she feels like a man.

That is the reality of the situation.

Agreed.

JK is on to it. She speaks the truth.

And she is being absolutely hammered for it. If I hadn’t deleted my Twitter I’d give her a like.

LivingasaWoman · 07/06/2020 06:02

Twitter-verse decrees she’s not allowed to say such things in the whole of June because ‘it’s Pride month’. Not allowed to say it because there’s a Pandemic. Not allowed to say it because Black Lives Matter (even though she’s talking about all women) Just not allowed to say it ever.

Bananabixfloof · 07/06/2020 10:18

OMG Martina navratilova has joined in. Yes.
Cant remember what ratio is on Twitter but original comment from JK has 68k retweets and 115k likes.

Indeed

"When people “put ‘phobic’ on the end of a word,” as many have done, labeling him “transphobic,” Gervais says, “What that means is, ‘Shut up! Shut up!’ That’s all that means. Just because someone accuses you of something, it doesn’t mean that it’s true. I see it all the time.”

It's quite interesting how it is the people with power are coming out about this.

People who menstruate. She is on a roll now

FannyCann · 07/06/2020 11:08

Lordfrontpaw
Link and screen grab for you.
I wonder if JK had a few Wine last night and decided she was finally going to let rip. All well thought out carefully worded tweets of course, as one would expect from her, but she certainly got on a roll kate last night. Grin

*late last night....

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 07/06/2020 11:11

She's brilliant

Lordfrontpaw · 07/06/2020 11:15

You’ve got to love Martina.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 07/06/2020 13:36

I'm so tired of the "saying that I can't change next to you at the swimming pool is encouraging violence against me" nonsense. Women saying no to things is not violence. If you are experiencing it as such on an emotional level then perhaps you should consult a therapist.

Lordfrontpaw · 07/06/2020 14:35

Oh Marilyn has spoken up for JK too.

stella47 · 07/06/2020 16:05

Interestingly John Boyne is speaking up in support of JKR. Didn't he get shit for writing what he meant to be a trans-supporting book?

MoleSmokes · 07/06/2020 16:13

As usual it is the women speaking up in support of JKR who are being subjected to massive pile-ons while the men are getting off relatively lightly. Almost as if there is some sort of difference . . .

Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But send hate & targeted abuse to a writer for expressing her opinion & to me for asking you not to?
