Obfuscation of the word "men" certainly concentrates minds 😂

mcduffy · 05/05/2020 10:36

heartening responses to it too

OvaHere · 05/05/2020 10:41

There's no time for wooly language when dealing with a deadly virus.

applepineapple · 05/05/2020 10:42

Well done Matt!

OhHolyJesus · 05/05/2020 10:44

That's brilliant!

"Leave that to me"

Hilarious!

hellotoday27 · 05/05/2020 10:53

Wonderful, that has made my day x

FairlowWonder · 05/05/2020 10:55

Brilliant!

SarahTancredi · 05/05/2020 10:55

Wow.

I cannot believe the preference would he to cause harm over acknowledging reality

ALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 05/05/2020 10:58

Love it! Fantastic Grin

Michelleoftheresistance · 05/05/2020 11:01

The exasperation in his voice.... Grin

Separate it out mate.

Biological sex - fixed fact, unchanged, not assigned, get over it

Gender - anything you feel like, go nuts, enjoy yourself. But it doesn't affect your biological sex or which sex group you fall into.

So ruddy simple.

Aesopfable · 05/05/2020 11:07

I’d have been more impressed if it had been something that disproportionately affected women and he had correctly identified ‘women’.

Michelleoftheresistance · 05/05/2020 11:19

It is quite helpful to have examples like this though because 'men' as a word and concept gets clearly defined and clearly boundary defended.

Hancock is on record with this. Which means there's more clear evidence to face muppets with that if this is the case for men, then either you have to extend the same to women or you are demonstrating that this is nothing more than sexist, male supremacist wankery. Which is, after all, precisely what this is.

QED.

SugarOrSweetenerWithTheTea · 05/05/2020 11:38

Reality has come knocking at the door

Unformidable · 05/05/2020 12:15

Hahaha loved it!!! I wonder if DHSC has tweeted a correction.

teawamutu · 05/05/2020 12:18

Brilliant! There's definitely a bit of momentum building up, isn't there?

Wonderbag · 05/05/2020 12:24

CheriLittlebottom · 05/05/2020 12:37

Brilliant Grin

NotAGirl · 05/05/2020 12:53

Well done Julia, if she hadn't pushed the point Matt wouldn't have known and made it clear

mcduffy · 05/05/2020 13:10

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 05/05/2020 13:16

Haha excellent!

TinselAngel · 05/05/2020 13:37

I know it's probably entirely down to my female socialisation and his puppy eyes, but I quite like Matt Hancock. He's so polite.

teawamutu · 05/05/2020 13:38

The DH tweet has well over 2k replies - many times more than normal. Maybe the message is starting to sink in...

CheriLittlebottom · 05/05/2020 13:38

Lord Lucas too.

Winesalot · 05/05/2020 13:39

Here are two tweets from Lord Lucas:

"I have put down a question for written answer to ask what evidence you have that gender affects the impact of coronavirus; how many genders you believe there to be, which the affected genders are, or whether instead of “certain genders” you should have used the word “males” " 8:56 pm · 4 May 2020

"It seems to me important that we should be exact in this, as such emerging evidence should affect the precautions that people take. In particular, people should be made aware of the possibility of increased, or decreased, risks arising from changing gender." 9:00 pm · 4 May 2020·

He also pointed out later that no one should be blaming one person for that tweet, when that person could lose their job for not following the 'mantra' the government has allowed to spread.

Winesalot · 05/05/2020 13:39

Sorry CheriLittlebottom. cross posted.
