In particular, people should be made aware of the possibility of increased, or decreased, risks arising from changing gender.
🤣

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 05/05/2020 13:45

TinselAngel lockdown is really messing with your judgement I fear!

LonginesPrime · 05/05/2020 13:49

Brilliant!

LouHotel · 05/05/2020 13:53

Of course when its men affected the common sense brigade comes out in force. But I was a pregnant 'person' 18 months ago.

Still, victories I suppose.

CheriLittlebottom · 05/05/2020 13:54

No probs Wine thanks for typing out his tweets I was in a rush!

StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight · 05/05/2020 13:57

Perfect.

RoyalCorgi · 05/05/2020 14:01

The Lord Lucas tweet is very good.

The trouble with the DoH statement is this: it's wrong. It's a lie. Coronavirus doesn't have a "disproportionate impact on certain genders". It affects men more badly than women. That's it. Why they can't say that is a mystery.

TinselAngel · 05/05/2020 14:08

I suspect you are right.

R0wantrees · 05/05/2020 14:14

Ralph Lucas (Conservative member of House of Lords) twitter:

"Definitions. The government has helpfully pointed out the definitions that they use

"Man": from the Equality Act 2010: 'A male of any age'

"Woman": from the Equality Act 2010: 'A female of any age'

and from the Gender Recognition Act consultation at assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/721725/GRA-Consultation-document.pdf

"Sex": 'Assigned by medical practitioners at birth based on physical characteristics. Sex can be either male or female.'

"Gender": 'Often expressed in terms of masculinity and femininity, gender refers to socially constructed characteristics, and is often assumed from the sex people are registered as at birth.'

"Gender identity": 'A person’s internal sense of their own gender. This does not have to be man or woman. It could be, for example, non-binary. '

"Transgender / Trans": 'Umbrella terms used to describe individuals who have a gender identity that is different to the sex recorded at birth. Non-binary people may or may not consider themselves to be trans.'

It starts well. Hmm

That was my reaction too. I wonder what the reaction would have been like if the sexes were reversed? I genuinely believe that male bodied people who identify as trans would have been claiming that be at risk of dying from COVID-19 because they are ‘women’.

MoreJammyDodgersPlease · 05/05/2020 19:26

Judging by his comments today, telling shadow cabinet member and A&E doctor Rosena Allin Khan to "mind her tone", Matt Hancock does indeed understand who to patronise.

I listened for a ‘tone’ from Dr Rosena Allin Khan - none detected. Yes - MH is clear who to patronise - perhaps the new ‘calm down dear’?

On the JHB clip - MH was spot on.

Anniesnotmydaddy · 06/05/2020 09:14

I'm glad I listened to that clip. Good for him - his response was spot on.

MaMaLa321 · 06/05/2020 09:18

Seeing as these two politicians have clearly placed themselves on either side of the trans issue, with MH on the sane side, he can patronise RK as much as he likes.

RumbaswithPumbaas · 06/05/2020 10:00

I have had sympathy for hancock in a lot of this, I presume he’s working flat out in a lot of areas and can’t personally oversee every ppe consignment/coronavirus test/ventilator, he was the one actually attending the cobra meetings and I suspect he came back to work after corona sooner than he should.

I get the feeling he’s doing his best and is fed up of getting the same questions over and over again. I think you can hear the exasperation in his voice at the ridiculous pussyfooting around using the word ‘men’. I worry that he might be a man on the edge.

I wonder if Dr Allin-Khan’s questions hit the mark - particularly as testing is the hill he chose to die on. She got under his skin and made him angry. There was nothing wrong with her tone at all, she spoke beautifully, but as he couldn’t attack anything she said, or her knowledge/experience on the matter, he took a swipe at her status/professionalism - the fake compliment (reminding everyone that she’s new to shadow front bench) and the tone comment (woman know your place).

I’m disappointed tbh.

NerforMuffin · 06/05/2020 10:04

Is it me or is there much less of a danger defining men categorically?

It's almost like its not transphobic (eye roll) to define sex in general but to define WOMEN.

In the Guardian, John Crace's take on this was that Hancock knew she was right, but he is fed up with carrying the can for mistakes made by Boris Johnson and Priti Patel. The strain is beginning to show, basically.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/05/2020 10:12

I'd guess that for those who always thought the TWAW mantra was nonsense it's going to get harder to pretend to believe it when under stress, and "under stress" applies to a whole lot of people at the moment.

Imnobody4 · 06/05/2020 10:29

I'm sure she said something like ' what would you say to the grieving relatives of people who's death you're responsible for' it doesn't show up in the clips. I think his reference to tone is about Keir Starmer's pledge to offer constructive but supportive critism.
I've heard him use the same tone remark to a male politician making the same kind of emotive hyperbolic comments. Personally I think she was out of order and I don't think he was being sexist. I'm also not a fan of him but starting a pile on, demanding apologies of someone facing the pressure he is over something so trivial doesn't sit well with me.

I can't believe the tweet is still there.

I don't think he was sexist, I agree he was upset by the implications of the question; but I think he was wrong.

She asked about NHS staff feeling that lack of PPE is causing deaths, rather than accusing him of killing people. Of all politicians I think she has that right.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/05/2020 11:06

"Genders" is plural, so surely we need a list for public awareness purposes?

Pertella · 06/05/2020 11:20

I've only skimmed the twitter thread admittedly, but I've not seen any blue haired anime avatars offering to educate the people pointing out biological reality in response to it...

I'm sure there will be another hair cut style video explaining the trauma in time...
