Liz Truss reveals ‘shocking’ plan to remove healthcare for trans youth, slammed as an ‘extraordinary’ attack on equality - the backlash begins

Predictably trans activists and their media allies have started misrepresenting what Liz Truss said.

"" ... Worryingly, only one of the three principles set out by Truss actually relates to GRA reform.

The other two – the protection of single-sex spaces for women and access to healthcare for transgender youth – are talking points often repeated by those opposed to trans rights in any form. ... "

(ie protecting women's rights is anti trans)

" ... “It would be an extraordinary move for the minister for women and equalities to support the introduction of a new form of inequality into British medical practice, by effectively treating transgender teenagers as less capable than their cisgender peers.

“We believe that transgender young people should have the same right to make important personal decisions as non-trans people.

“Furthermore, we must question why Ms Truss is making a statement about clinical pathways while answering a question on the Gender Recognition Act, which has no bearing on medical care.” ... "

(This is pink news so not surprising that they would take this tone!)

Meanwhile in the Independent:

" ... LGBT rights group Stonewall demanded talks with the minister to establish what decisions she had in mind and to ensure that young people continue to be offered appropriate support. ... "

" ... We’d welcome an opportunity to discuss this with the minister, as it’s crucial all young people who are questioning their gender identity are able to access high-quality, timely support. Every trans young person should be given the care they need, in an informed and supportive manner, so they’re able to lead a happy, healthy life.” ... "

As far as I know no women's groups or services have made any statement, eg re confirmation that single sex service provision is guaranteed under the EA.

An MP wrote to a government minister complaining that unhappy children are being allowed to go through puberty?

I say we publicize that far and wide.

It's never enough to appease these fruitcakes.

Of course Hmm If Zarah thought she would just get head pats and woke points she's very much mistaken.

You couldn't write comedy this good.

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 06/06/2020 19:18

"I would further highlight to the Minister that the physiological process of puberty is in many ways an "irreversible" process that young trans people are often left to undergo against their wishes due to the inadequacy of trans healthcare..."

Wow. Just Wow. Many people seem to think that Labour would have handled coronavirus better, but this just shows they probably wouldn't with biology deniers like this in the party. It's difficult to think of a way that anyone could balls up more than the Tories on covid-19. But Sultana's email has made me think that they'd probably just be insisting you can identify out of it and don't need PPE or anything like that as long as you feel hard enough inside that you are really truly not infected. Then they'd moan on about how coronavirus had infected people 'without their consent'.

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 06/06/2020 19:20

Also, not only is puberty - an entirely natural, healthy and essential biological process - irreversible. So are puberty blockers and cross sex hormones. And that's rather the point, surely? Whether children who have no knowledge of the importance of the brain development and sexual function that puberty brings can truly consent to irreversibly preventing this natural development?

They're glugging down the Kool-Aid, without ever, not once, looking at the fucking bottle.

It's absolute madness.

There is no such thing as being born in the wrong body.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 06/06/2020 19:54

Some of the madder TRAs are actually positing similar ideas... There is talk of 'non-consensual puberty'

I'm quite sure of it. It's completely the logical end point of TRA ideology. Bodies as commodities, individual choice and total freedom from all consequences/responsibilities. A desire for utter god-like control over reality.

TehBewilderness · 07/06/2020 01:44

No more off label drugs and unnecessary surgeries for children who fail to conform to sex role stereotypes? What a relief that will be for the children.

ChattyLion · 07/06/2020 03:07

It’s a massive red flag when people try to misrepresent normal safeguarding and consent like this.

On the Gillick point, having a wanted, safe, legal abortion is always less risky than pregnancy and birth to term. Abortion is an intervention that reduces risk compared to forcing a pregnant teenager to stay pregnant against their will. Nor does that abortion destroy her future sexual function, natural fertility or prevent her having future pregnancies and births.

So that’s the opposite to the consent decisions involved around taking puberty blockers or hormonal or surgical ‘transition’, which seem to be both unproven to treat the distress or medical condition that they are prescribed for, and to expose the patient to additional serious health risks and side effects.
