Liz Truss reveals ‘shocking’ plan to remove healthcare for trans youth, slammed as an ‘extraordinary’ attack on equality - the backlash begins

Predictably trans activists and their media allies have started misrepresenting what Liz Truss said.

"" ... Worryingly, only one of the three principles set out by Truss actually relates to GRA reform.

The other two – the protection of single-sex spaces for women and access to healthcare for transgender youth – are talking points often repeated by those opposed to trans rights in any form. ... "

(ie protecting women's rights is anti trans)

" ... “It would be an extraordinary move for the minister for women and equalities to support the introduction of a new form of inequality into British medical practice, by effectively treating transgender teenagers as less capable than their cisgender peers.

“We believe that transgender young people should have the same right to make important personal decisions as non-trans people.

“Furthermore, we must question why Ms Truss is making a statement about clinical pathways while answering a question on the Gender Recognition Act, which has no bearing on medical care.” ... "

(This is pink news so not surprising that they would take this tone!)

Meanwhile in the Independent:

" ... LGBT rights group Stonewall demanded talks with the minister to establish what decisions she had in mind and to ensure that young people continue to be offered appropriate support. ... "

" ... We’d welcome an opportunity to discuss this with the minister, as it’s crucial all young people who are questioning their gender identity are able to access high-quality, timely support. Every trans young person should be given the care they need, in an informed and supportive manner, so they’re able to lead a happy, healthy life.” ... "

As far as I know no women's groups or services have made any statement, eg re confirmation that single sex service provision is guaranteed under the EA.

But do the people who say this stuff think that six-foot male trans people with beards belong in the women's toilets, but the female ones don't?

And yes, that's why it's a ludicrous gotcha argument.

stumbledin · 11/05/2020 19:14

Here's yet another over the top article trying to make the unreal link between section 28 and those opposed to GRA.

inews.co.uk/opinion/comment/im-a-trans-woman-who-grew-up-under-section-28-i-worry-it-could-make-a-comeback-2848569

Just to add it is sad that the "i" which started out being more open to both GC and trans articles now only published pro trans. And I dont think their articles are open for comment.

But do the people who say this stuff think that six-foot male trans people with beards belong in the women's toilets, but the female ones don't?

And there in one scenario you have the absurdity of the TRA position. 5ft3 female with little mustache, female typical waist to hip ratio probably still obvious - banned because wearing trousers and says they're a man. Alex Drummond with full beard and male typical size and build - allowed because wearing a skirt and says they're a woman. And we're supposed to pretend that we're afraid of the female person with the fluffy little mustache.

stumbledin · 17/05/2020 15:21

Just adding the link to yet another article going on about the threatening comments from Liz Truss.

And to date have still not seen any newspaper article reproting it a straightforward manner that Liz Truss just made of couple of statements re-affriming women's rights protection under the EA.

Here's an even more hysterical.

They are trying to make out her statement meant that she hated trans people so to tweet in support of an international day is hypocritical.

But in fact thse never said anything against trans people. She just supported women's rights.

ie revealing that they think supporting women's rights is transphobic.

Seriously if they cant have a hissy fit at least once a day over some imagined slight, then they just make stuff up.

Sarah Sultana MP accuses us of "hysteria" in a letter to Liz Truss.

Seriously, FUCK Labour. They've learned nothing, have they, the stupid, woke, unelectable idiots.

"Speaking to the Women and Equalities Select Committee in April, Liz Truss brought into question the rights of trans women and young people.

I've written to her for answers on the Government's plans for the reform of the Gender Recognition Act and trans healthcare. t.co/Obx8jTIe7x "

The hyperbole in the replies Hmm. Labour seem to have become the party of style (very loosely) over substance. I still find it hard to comprehend how women can betray their own sex for the sake of woke biscuit crumbs.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 05/06/2020 22:45

And we wonder why MPs keep quiet! The levels of intimidation, threats and bullying by trans advocates is off the scale. Shame on them all.

BringbackLang · 05/06/2020 22:54

I had to laugh at the replies that went from quite benign but full of BS to 'Shut up you bigoted t@rf scum' in only a few tweets when challenged. Not a good look.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 05/06/2020 23:03

What worries me is how weak the govt is right now, and how Starmer looks almost like a rational human being to worried voters. If this lot get in, we're scunnered.

OldCrone · 05/06/2020 23:12

I just read Zarah Sultana's letter to Liz Truss. It includes this:

"I would further highlight to the Minister that the physiological process of puberty is in many ways an "irreversible" process that young trans people are often left to undergo against their wishes due to the inadequacy of trans healthcare..."

How can an MP write this and not realise that she sounds completely insane?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/06/2020 10:46

young trans people are often left to undergo against their wishes

I underwent puberty too. My wishes didn't even come into it! What a scandal!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/06/2020 10:59

If someone was meant to ask me if I wanted to undergo puberty, who precisely was that person?

Imnobody4 · 06/06/2020 11:26

A chip off the Dawn Butler block. The arrogant tone is breathtaking. Can't say I've heard anything from Marsha De Cordova, just hoping she's at least slightly more rational, but not banking on it.

But the ending to that is they they never, subsequently, go through puberty. Administering 'trans healthcare' of cross sex hormones does not give them the puberty of the opposite sex. Nor does surgery (or clothes.)

I'm still gobsmacked at how irresponsible it is to administer these drugs without knowing whether or not the person will ever mentally mature.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 06/06/2020 11:56

Maybe ALL kids should be given puberty blockers as a matter of course, and a menu from which they can choose which body parts they fancy buying? Multiple choice, of course. Then we can all have our perfect pick n mix gender! Yay! I'm sure there are some companies who'll be really happy to support this very positive idea and help children to make the right choices.

That is surely a good enough raisin to go mad with puns.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 06/06/2020 12:13

Currant affairs ain't what they used to be.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/06/2020 12:14

And with hot cross bun season already over too.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 06/06/2020 12:15

Scone too soon.

terryleather · 06/06/2020 12:25

I dried not to get pulled into this thread but the liberal narcissism that seems to have infected so many of our institutions etc has been raisin my blood pressure...

BaronessRadishFemish · 06/06/2020 12:30

ThinEndoftheWedge · 06/06/2020 18:39

Why doesn’t she just come out with it?

-Biology is transphobic,
-Ageing is transphobic,
-Human procreation is transphobic
-Humans as mammals is transphobic.

She should put an amendment down and ask for them all to be classed as hate crimes.

Wow - Labour unelectable for the long term.

Some of the madder TRAs are actually positing similar ideas... There is talk of 'non-consensual puberty' Hmm
