Great stuff. I remember seeing reports of MNers seeing the adult human female postcards in the Science Museum shop. Now it seems they were being deposited all over the place before the lockdown. Brava, women!

So stating what I am has become a Nazi hate crime Confused

8th rule of misogyny: Men are whatever men say they are and women are whatever men say they are

Too right. Wine

It’s unfortunate that a statement of biological truth has become so loaded, but only because there are many who would like to distort it until it’s meaningless. The truth can sometimes hurt, but that doesn’t mean it should be replaced with a lie.

These women aren’t doing this to persecute or trigger anyone, but to quietly counter the #nodebate by provoking thought about the meaning of a word we’ve accepted at face value for hundreds of years. A word used in society and law to define and protect those who can’t identify out of their oppression.

TheChampagneGalop · 14/04/2020 00:14

Anyone know if the museums ended up selling some of these postcards?

RumbaswithPumbaas · 14/04/2020 00:17

Maybe to an atheist who was extremely upset by the Jesus/Buddha postcards Grin

SophocIestheFox · 14/04/2020 06:54

That’s a double Godwinning there with the slightly opaque swastika reference GrinTwo posts, two snide little insinuations that feminists are the same as Nazis. Efficient.

You know that even people who have no skin in this game, if they have experience in online debates, would read your references to Nazis and immediately assume that you’re losing because of that, right, Robin? It’s that much of a cliché.

Go on then, I’ll bite, though. What crime has been committed here, and what is the aggravating factor that bumps it up to being a hate crime? Stop lobbing silly little grenades and give us your A-game.

A hate crime, I would have thought

Those who wish to criminalise the dictionary definition of words reveal the Orwellian nature of 'hate crime' as a category. Justice Knowles cited Professor Stock and referred to 'hate speech' accusations as a tactic to silence debate. There needs to be a rigorous examination of 'hate crime' in the wake of Harry Miller's case.

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 14/04/2020 08:49

Now now ladies, no need to get hysterical 'Woman' doesn't mean shit, we all need to sit down, shut up and let Robin here teach us about fascism.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 14/04/2020 08:55

Love this.

In a Shoreditch pub toilet a couple of months ago, I saw an Adult Human Female sticker. It made me very happy.

R0wantrees · 14/04/2020 09:11

"I wonder what the legal situation is in relation to leaving these?"

'Littering at the worst, surely?'

A hate crime, I would have thought.

Postcards which state the dictionary definition:

               ' <strong>Woman</strong> <span class="italic">noun</span> adult human female ' ? <img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Hmm" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/hmm-PR4o6B1t.png">

There are other definition postcards/stickers/T Shirts etc:

              ' <strong>Mother</strong> <span class="italic">noun</span> adult parent '
              ' <strong>Lesbian</strong> <span class="italic">noun</span> female homosexual '
              ' <strong>Man</strong> <span class="italic">noun</span> adult human male '

Its great isn't it Empress you step out from the gas lighting into reality and its like sunlight on your face.

R0wantrees · 14/04/2020 09:22

Imagine, for a moment, being a transperson and seeing these symbols of hatred displayed in public spaces. Lovely.

Symbols of hatred? A postcard with the dictionary definition of woman.... Hmm

Dr Adrian Harrop attempted to assert similar in September 2018.
Interviewed Sky News with Posie Parker:

Pertella · 14/04/2020 09:22

Homosexual noun person who is sexually attracted to a person of the same biological sex

Sex noun either of the two main categories (male and female) into which humans and most other living things are divided on the basis of their reproductive functions.

I like this game Grin

Exactly!

Datun · 14/04/2020 09:25

' Mother noun adult parent '
' Lesbian noun female homosexual '
' Man noun adult human male '

Baggage
Baggage
Baggage

Right?

The thing is, robin, there is no baggage attached to these dictionary definitions. The baggage comes from you, it's in your head. Because humans can't change sex.

Datun · 14/04/2020 09:28

It wouldn't be so bad, if anyone, in the history of transactivism, had ever, even once, come up with even the smidge of a hint of an alternative definition.

HorseRadishFemish · 14/04/2020 09:34

I take it that "Robin" never, ever engages. Just a plopper, then? Not very brave.

Must try harder, Rob.

HorseRadishFemish · 14/04/2020 09:39

I'll give it my best shot:

Robin, your message seems to be that the dictionary definition of the word "woman" is now hate-speech.

Please say what you think the definition of "woman" ought to be nowadays.

JellySlice · 14/04/2020 09:53

Please don't.

This is turning a thread about a very positive experience into a repetitive bicker with someone who has absolutely no interest in genuine engagement.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/04/2020 09:59

This person always merails any threads they are on.

R0wantrees · 14/04/2020 09:59

extract from article in OP

Postcards were left in the gift shop at the Science Museum in South Kensington on at least 4 occasions during February and March, leaving some Mumsnetters to speculate as to whether the museum had agreed to stock them.

Mumsnetters spotted the postcards on February 9th and again on 21st. Comments on the thread included:

“I thoroughly approve of this guerilla action…

Kudos to whichever brave woman put them there…

Can’t think of a better place for them than the Science Museum…

If I’d seen the postcards in the shop I would have tried to buy one …

It’s a stunning campaign, in my opinion. If the dictionary definition of the word woman is offensive, then that, in itself, is a headline worth shouting from the rooftops.” (continues)

HorseRadishFemish · 14/04/2020 10:33

Ah! I did have the feeling that it wouldn't come to anything.

HorseRadishFemish · 14/04/2020 10:36

I like "merail"...

Clymene · 14/04/2020 13:39

What a wonderful article! Heartening to read of such coordinated positive action at a time when women are trapped in our homes, taking the lion's share of caring responsibilities and many of us at increased risk of violence from men.

popehilarious · 14/04/2020 14:14

I did used to engage with RMW but I hadn't realised their views on other races. I won't bother.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 15/04/2020 08:41

pope I think that’s very sensible.

I’m so glad all these women got their postcards in before the lockdown. Brilliant to see activity all over the country.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if this went international? Mujer postcards in Spanish museums, donna ones in Italy, femme in France etc?
