Why is there such a large portion of the feminist movement so against trans culture. Trans people have been some of the biggest advocates for supporting allegedly oppressed groups. Why is it suddenly okay to for feminists (a formally oppressed group) to oppress trans people (currently oppressed group) why?

Is Golden Syrup cheaper than treacle? We always had GS.

Is it a class thing, like salad cream v mayonnaise? Or just a 70s thing?

Now I want a pineapple upside down cake...

It was very bad pastry at my Primary School.

The delicious, moist yet crumbly shortcrust pastry is definitely necessary 🤤

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/04/2020 13:35

This is making me feel like going old school and making cornflake clusters with melted Mars Bars, but I suppose it will have to wait till my next exciting trip to the shops reveals if cornflakes are still a thing that exists or if they vanished along with all the pasta.

R0wantrees · 10/04/2020 13:35

I don't remember it being 'moist yet crumbly' ! Sad

All the talk of custard has made me fancy a vanilla slice.

I wish you much joy of it, Tinsel, obvs Grin

kittens Making them was one of our Easter traditions, with little sugar eggs in the nests.

Tbf, neither do I (also only ever had it at primary school) - but still necessary.

TinselAngel · 10/04/2020 13:42

It was moist yet crumbly yesterday, I'm pleased to report.

TinselAngel · 10/04/2020 13:43

Shredded wheat makes a more realistic but far less tasty, chocolate nest.

HorseRadishFemish · 10/04/2020 13:54

Doesn't matter if it's pizza, custard tarts, cheesecake etc..

..it's all about the base.

DuLANGDuLANGDuLANG · 10/04/2020 13:56

And the odd threadbare chick from multiple previous Easters (and kept in a old biscuit tin with some partially used birthday cake candles).

I found a box of unused 70s cake decorations in a little hardware store out in the sticks a few years ago. Bought a few that reminded me of my nan (a deer, a bristly tree, a holly leaf etc) and then put them somewhere in my house and promptly forgot about them.

Last year we had a problem with a water pipe and the insurance company arranged for a pro removals company to empty a couple of rooms while the damage was repaired and the redecorating done. When our boxes of stuff returned I found all the tiny vintage Xmas cake ornaments had been incredibly carefully, individually wrapped in packing paper, sealed with tape and the paper marked as to the contents, ie ‘small plastic deer’.

I couldn’t decide if the removals man was bonkers or if he thought I was!

What about ‘pea wet’? I didn’t believe my Wiganese chum when he first told me about it, but there is video evidence on YouTube:

Treacle and golden syrup are different things I think.

DuLANGDuLANGDuLANG · 10/04/2020 14:16

They are, but for some reason, in the 70s, pretty much everything named ‘Treacle ’ was actually made with golden syrup.

I wonder if it was actually a leftover post war thing? Off to google...

isabellerossignol · 10/04/2020 14:17

I have that dairy cookbook, I found it recently in a charity shop, and it's great. I might make that tart later. It's not like I'm going anywhere...

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/04/2020 14:50

Mrs Beeton says "treacle (or golden syrup, which is usually preferred)" in her recipe for "Treacle pudding" in the 1923 edition of her cookery book that I inherited from my mother, so I think calling things a treacle this or that when you mean a golden syrup one is older than the 1970s.
