This really is nauseating. A petition full of lies and misinformation has been posted on change.org in an attempt to prevent the LGB Alliance from being granted charity status.

As an old lesbian I am horrified that this kind of propaganda is being spread. Stonewall, the charity we set up and supported for decades has betrayed us completely. Their website now claims that homosexuality is a medical term for "orientation towards someone of the same gender".

Homosexuality is not, and never was an attraction to people who identify with the same gender based stereotypes. Homosexuality is a sexual orientation, and homosexuals are attracted to people of the same sex. Telling young lesbians that they are bigots and transphobes because they can't train themselves to "cope" with the "female" penis is horrendously cruel, and deeply homophobic. Bisexuals are attracted to both sexes, if they were also attracted to all genders they would call themselves pansexual, not bi. Stonewall went looking for a way to stay relevant and well funded after gay marriage was attained, latched on to transgenderism and has been lobbying to undermine our rights and legal protections ever since.

We never wanted to have to go our own way. We wanted the organisation we created, Stonewall, to stand up for our legal rights. Only when it became completely clear that they had no intention of doing so, and in fact were lobbying hard to change existing laws that protect our sex based rights and right to our own sexual orientation did a new organisation become necessary.

Nobody is working to undermine or destroy Stonewall, we are happy to leave them to continue their chosen work of centering transgender people, and those who happily identify themselves as queer, along with all the other letters of the alphabet. We have just given up on hoping that they will represent us, and have chosen to leave and set up our own representation. To claim this is evidence of transphobia is nonsense. We are fully within our rights to build a group that supports our own special needs.

The LGB alliance centres the needs of lesbians, gays and bisexuals and stands up for our rights, it was greeted with relief and joy by lesbians, gays and bisexuals who had been watching in horror as Stonewall worked to erase us from history and from our own organisation.

The petition is purposefully misleading, it quotes biased articles from Pink News as if they were academic reference papers. I've reported it for being misleading, homophobic and hateful, and hope you will too.

Okay have reported it and pointed out that not only is it libelous, that change as the publishers of the petition are also culpable.

I've read from these boards and threads about how these groups started in stealth, behind the scenes, are they taking this moment to exploit peoples vulnerability?Hoping that people will just sign because "bekind"?
There is a certain person I'm thinking of.
Someone who needs a "validation station" for what she did to her son...

Ugh, what an absolute travesty that an organisation that centers the LGB has to fight for same sex attraction to be recognised in the 21st century. I hope there will be a day of reckoning for the homophobes who hide behind their gender worship.

I’ve read the petition. Perhaps the OP would state what they believe constitute ‘lies and misinformation’ as it appears quite accurate to me. Hate groups should not be granted charitable status.

Why would someone want to stop a group who supports LGB people getting charity status? I'd like to ask Jamie Walker more about her motives. I'm sure Boris will be discussing her position and the purposes of the petition at length with his cabinet.

Hate groups should not be granted charitable status.

Sexual orientation is a protected characteristic based on sex. If it's hate speech to say so, let have some sunlight on that and ask why/how.

Baroness Stowell’s email on the HOL site is [email protected] it does say that bulk emails are not accepted, more than six of the same message will be deleted, so we do need to write our own messages.

Alternatively/additionally if someone wants to start a counter-petition supporting charity status for LGBAlliance I’m sure that would attract signatures!

Polite suggestion wims, let’s not get drawn into any kind of thread derailment by responding to any kind of debate about ‘LGBAlliance is an anti-trans hate group’ on this thread - this house’s position is quite clear on this front. Robin if you wish to debate that point, maybe you could start your own thread and those that wish to can engage with you there, rather than trying to disrupt women organising against homophobia on this thread - not a good look for you.

I would just like the OP to make good on their ‘lies and misinformation’ comment, by taking statements in the petition and identifying how they are ‘lies and misinformation’. That’s all. Too much to ask?

That would be true?*

Not true. They were not censured. They were advised the ad was "potentially misleading" because the legislation was under consultation rather than law. The ASA ruled that the adverts DID NOT BREACH the advertising code.
