Mermaids need more money, apparently. Quite where the rest has gone I can’t imagine.

What are they doing with it all Shock

OhHolyJesus · 27/03/2020 07:39

All charities are suffering, I personally cancelled all my donations as soon we will be broke and "charity begins at home".

Mermaids can go whistle, I'm sure many will carry on supporting them but I hope people like me focus on the family needs, which includes feeding them actual food, not gender BS.

KaronAVyrus · 27/03/2020 08:11

I think as the economic reality of the coronavirus sets in a lot of the charities should be very afraid

The government will not be able to justify ploughing money into things like Mermaids, Stonewall etc with a backdrop of massive unemployment and rising taxes. The industrial charity complex will shortly be having the tap abruptly turned off

jadefinch · 27/03/2020 08:21

'This is the first time Mermaids has organised its own live stream ... [since] the infamous Hbomberguy raising $340,000 for Mermaids'

Infamous?!

They don't even pretend to hide the fact that so many people linked to them are not exactly wholesome

Gosh the Mermaid monitors work fast - they’ve edited out the infamous already!

As they’re taking constructive criticism from here, I’d like to let them know that when I see their M logo I see two legs with a pronounced pubic mound and a protruding clitoris hth.

Imnobody4 · 28/03/2020 13:52

And asking children to share videos. Two days before they add the need for parental consent for under 18s.

OhHolyJesus · 28/03/2020 14:01

I think Karon is right.

When we see the full financial impact of this virus can we expect to see tax-payers funding go into the NHS...or to Barnardos and Equaliteach?

www.gov.uk/government/news/lgbt-history-month-new-government-support-for-lgbt-groups

This is over a year old and the funding cycle completes this month, but in my experience charities often apply for future funding, or extended funding to complete work, so it would be interesting to keep an eye on this to see if groups listed here get more govt cash in 20/21.

OhHolyJesus · 28/03/2020 14:02

Sorry for the derail, just noting we should keep an eye on Mermaids (and others) annual accounts.

Mermaids,
"We are receiving a high volume of calls to our helpline from young people who are scared by what’s happening and are facing a long period of isolation in often-unfriendly environments with little opportunity to find comfort and support. Whilst parents are worried about how to support their children during a period of social isolation, many of whom deal with significant mental health difficulties.

Amidst all of this, the charity is facing considerable challenges; we are already seeing a reduction in individual donations, we’ve been forced to cancel all residential weekends, as well as our local groups and training sessions, which was a significant source of income for the charity. "

[Hmm]

"If you’re a company, brand or organisation and you would like to support DigiFest then please email....

This festival is all about live appearances, performances and discussion benefiting our children and families so if your company would like to come on as a guest for a short talk with our professional hosts and discuss ways people can find comfort and strength, that can also be discussed. This event is about bringing everyone together and corporate heroes and allies are an important part of that!"

Hmm Hmm

KaronAVyrus · 28/03/2020 14:35

There isn’t going to be any companies with spare cash to support this type of thing. The party is over for mermaids.

The government will have to slash all but essential spending.
Individuals will not have money to give to charities.
Companies are going to have to fight for their survival as the world wide economy enters a depression. They won’t have money for diversity officers, rearranging toilets, brainwashing training sessions and any other unnecessary guff.

Maybe setting up teenagers in opposition to their parents and encouraging them to believe their parents are likely to reject them for who they really are wasn't such a great idea after all?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/03/2020 16:13

I know this has already been asked - but where has all the money gone?

SarahTancredi · 28/03/2020 16:18

I know this has already been asked - but where has all the money gone?

"Training" in schools probably.

Creating more "patients" than they can afford to cope with so they can blame us for what happens to these kids and hopefully raise more money. And repeat..

SarahTancredi · 28/03/2020 16:23

And am I wrong in remembering the multiple clinics that were planned that apparently the lottery money was going to pay for?

KaronAVyrus · 28/03/2020 16:26

Did we ever find out what happened with all the money Kids Company wasted?

SarahTancredi · 28/03/2020 16:36

I particularly like this part

We want to remind the young people and families we work with that they are not alone

They are only alone now because they made sure that parents are seen as the enemy and hooked them on the permanent forced validation from everyone else.

Its actually extremely worrying how these children who have been so used to being on pedestals provided by adults who want their stonewall gold status will cope being a regular kid at home while the parents are at work and no ones around to make them feel special.

Poor kids

I0NA · 28/03/2020 16:43

I see mermaids have had to cancel all their training sessions. Every cloud has a silver lining.

Datun · 28/03/2020 16:44

Creating more "patients" than they can afford to cope with so they can blame us for what happens to these kids and hopefully raise more money. And repeat..

Nailed it.

Lorraine Kelly? That will be partnering with Piers Morgan on ITV?

SarahTancredi · 04/04/2020 13:07

Out of curiosity, the number of comments and likes and stuff on the feed..dont seem particularly high..

Is there a separate page for it all?

DidoLamenting · 04/04/2020 13:17

m.twitch.tv/mermaids_gender

There is this link. Possibly it works better on the app it is designed for.

It has prompted me to make 2 small additional donations, aside from my regular monthly donations, to the SSPCA and The Cats' Protection League.
